OTHER INFORMATION
Voted Yes for House Roll Call Vote 1337 pro-life 2016 which was the final concurrence vote in the Indiana House on a pro-life bill from this session that banned abortion because of race, gender or disability and also mandated that abortion clinics must dispose of aborted babies through a relationship with a funeral home via either burial or cremation. Currently they are allowed to treat aborted baby bodies as "medical waste". Voted Yes for House Roll Call Vote HJR 3 to remove 2nd sentence of the Marriage Amendment 2014 which defined marriage as between one man and one woman. HJR 3 stripped the Marriage Amendment of its second sentence, which essentially killed the constitutional process. Voted No for SB 20 sexual orientation 2016 which is an amendment to a bill in the Indiana House that would have added special protections for "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" into state law.
Introduced Constitutional Carry bill
QUESTIONNAIRE*
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Life of the mother, rape and incest, and fatal fetal anomalies.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Neutral
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
Phase out all taxes at the federal level and switch to the Fairtax exclusively, eliminate the IRS as we know it and only tax what is enough to cover the limited duties of government at the local level.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Gradually reduce and eliminate government to the size that is outlined and enumerated in the Constitutions. Government has become so large and inefficient that it is a major drag on our economy, restrictive in the freedoms of the people and a direct threat to future generations because of crippling debt incurred to fund government. Our current projected interest debt payment is $300 billion annually and is the 5th largest line item in our budget. This will only continue to get worse as our debt grows.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
One only has to look at the failure of our current government-run education system and the uncontrolled cost of higher education to see the damage caused by government intervention in all levels of education. K-12 gets over half of our state budget, 40% of our property tax dollars and over $1 billion in federal funding, yet 70% of Hoosier K-12 students can't pass our own government standards English/Math test. Add higher education funding, and Hoosiers spend almost 2/3 of our budget on education
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
The Constitutions and Bill of Rights are a restraint on government, NOT individuals and exist to protect individual rights. True freedom can be uncomfortable.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
NEVER
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
We should transition government as much out of healthcare as possible. Those that have been forced to pay into government run programs should either get a refund or services rendered for their contributions. We must start putting healthcare choices in the hands of the individual and encourage competition by incentivizing individual policies away from employer provided policies. Open up state lines for health insurance and eliminate the patent loophole on medications. Make the prescription drug manufacturing and pricing structure more transparent and start throwing deceitful pharma executives in jail instead of simply applying meaningless fines for fraud and deceit.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Depends on the situation, but very rarely, if ever. All vaccines should be required to be thoroughly tested with ALL data and information made publicly available and if the vaccine research and development is taxpayer funded, that should be reflected in the pricing of the vaccine. Any company officer or government employee found guilty of deceit or malfeasance should be tried in a court of law and if convicted, serve lengthy prison sentences on top of painful fines.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
Close the borders and introduce a reasonable and lawful path to citizenship.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
We must secure our borders and implement a reasonable, lawful path to citizenship for those lawful, responsible people that want to come to America to work and contribute to society and become Americans. We should start phasing out and denying any and all taxpayer funded benefits to those that are here illegally, as our current system is unsustainable and will eventually collapse.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Those that are not criminals in their countries and want to come and work and contribute to society and become Americans.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Agree
I strongly agree 100% in parent educational choice and to recognize parents, teachers and educators as controlling education, not government
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Agree
As a Lutheran, my belief is that marriage is between a man and a woman. However, I also personally believe that two consenting adults have the right to enter into a relationship of their choosing and I don't have a right to force my beliefs onto them, or anyone. That also applies to others not having the right to force their beliefs onto others as well.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, which is a member of the Missouri Synod. I believe people have individual rights and responsibilities, which includes helping others in need and recognizing the rights of others to live their life according to their own beliefs, as long as it does not cause physical harm to others. We should live and let live, be held accountable for our actions and strive to help others that are trying to help themselves.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
People should be made to prove their identity, American citizenship and that they live in the district they're voting in.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
Laws that prove citizenship, legality and place of residence. As voting to elect those that represent us is one of our most precious rights, I would prosecute voter fraud to the fullest extent, with lengthy mandatory prison sentences, to reflect this importance.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
No. Racism is vile and horrible and it exists in many forms. Sadly, it will always exist because of the dark side of human nature. However, we must strive to respect all people and not allow race, especially the false accusation of racism, divide us.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
Absolutely not!
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
We should strive for a rational and reasonable balance of laws that protects the environment while allowing for economic growth.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Agree
As long as it is safe.
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
The Constitutions, which every elected official are required to swear an oath to uphold, states this perfectly with specific enumerated powers. Government should be as limited and small as possible, per the Constitutions.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
I believe in the Constitution as it is written and the protected rights of the individual to live their lives as they see fit, as long as it doesn't physically harm others. The Preamble to the Bill of Rights is VERY specific in this - "THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added:"
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Go to iga.in.gov for my legislative history
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I am a Christian, father of three beautiful children, Marine Corps veteran and small business owner for 23 years. I got into government starting at the local city council level because of government overreach and I wanted to do something about it. I was elected to two terms as Seymour City Councilman At Large and ran for State Representative and was elected as State Representative in 2012. As a Marine and elected official, I was required to swear an oath to uphold both Constitutions. I believe in the state and federal Constitutions as they are written, not interpreted and they both limit government to specific enumerated powers while recognizing and protecting the inalienable rights of individuals. My legislation has been based on protecting the rights of the individual, while being fiscally responsible with taxpayers dollars. I make my positions known on the issues, am extremely transparent and I stand up for what I believe in.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
Police are trained to a specific required level of competence. If they act within their level of training, they should not be held liable for that departments training requirements.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
Police funding should be adequate to ensure the hiring, proper training and retention of competent and properly equipped police officers who are capable of safely and Constitutionally able to maintain public safety. Their funding should not be the funding source for other programs, as they should receive their own funding to maintain transparency and accountability.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Our right to keep and bear arms is not only recognized by our state and federal Constitutions, but is explicitly protected from government infringement. We must start doing a better job in our courts and criminal justice system of holding people accountable for their actions and stop infringing the rights of innocent people because of the actions of criminals. The SCOTUS and federal courts have ruled on numerous occasions that police DO NOT have a duty to protect us (Castle Rock vs. Ganzales and the Parkland, FL school shooting), lawfully and legally making our self defense OUR individual responsibility. The average 911 police response time is over 10 minutes and many times is much longer in different areas and conditions. We must continue to push to eliminate gun free zones, as they are simply places where people that obey gun laws are made easy victims for people that don't obey gun laws. Over 90% of mass shootings happen in gun free zones, proving their danger.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
This is an insane and ridiculous argument that firearms manufacturers should be held liable for the misuse of their lawfully manufactured products. If they are defective, then the firearms manufacturers should be held to the same standards as other manufacturers. This is the equivalent of holding automobile manufacturers responsible for drunk driving deaths.
