OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

None

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Unlike the US Congress in Washington DC, the Texas Legislature is (thankfully!) constitutionally mandated to pass a balanced budget. Therefore, the budgeting process in Austin focuses more on making decisions about government priorities. My own priorities include limiting spending to only core functions of government and to not taking in one dime more than is needed for those core functions.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Our founding fathers wanted to ensure that the government would never be allowed to infringe on the rights of the citizens to worship and practice their faith. It was so important to them that they put that protection in the very first Amendment to the Constitution.

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

The free market system will always do a better job of innovation and exceptional customer service than any government program. Obamacare has driven our medical care costs and deductibles through the roof—and I don’t know anyone who is happier with their healthcare today than before that law was enacted. We should do all we can to allow for free market solutions: empowering the patient to make their healthcare decisions and the provider to do the best job at the best price without the middleman’s cost increases that we are now experiencing. For our low-income children and our Intellectual and Developmentally Disabled (IDD) adults we have Medicaid to fill those gaps not covered by private insurance. For Texas' low-income women, services are provided through the Medicaid program, the Healthy Texas Women Program, the Family Planning Program, and the Alternatives to Abortion program with more than 5000 providers participating.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Agree

IMMIGRATION

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Strongly Agree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

As a society of rules and order, we must have rules and order when it comes to immigration. America is an amazing place of opportunity for those who are motivated to start a new life here. It is very important that we have immigration policies that allow for our workforce to grow and fill needs in that workforce, but not at the expense of taxpayers and citizens that already are contributing to our society. Many of our current immigration laws are working well, but some are not. Those who come here illegally should not have the opportunity to achieve citizenship without following the same rules that those who came legally.

EDUCATION

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Disagree

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

Promotion of the LGBT agenda in public schools, including teaching of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity”, is completely inappropriate and should be opposed at the state and local level.

Strongly Agree

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

My belief system is simple: As a Christian I believe that God is the source of all truth, wisdom, peace and life. I accepted Christ as my savior at the age of 9, and was raised to honor integrity and Biblical values. I have been an active member of Prestonwood Baptist Church since 1985, where my husband, Robert, and I direct an Adult Bible Study class. I have a servant’s heart—I want to make a difference for good in the arena in which I live. When it comes to good government, I believe that the innocent should be protected from those that would do them harm. I know that our Constitutional Rights come from God and not Government, and will do all in my power to protect the liberty He gave us.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

I am proud to have carried, as a Freshman in the Texas House, the bill that ended Taxpayer funds for abortion providers and their affiliates. I was the House Author of SB 22, and it was debated on the House Floor for 7 1/2 hours before passing, and was signed into law by Governor Abbott. The result is that millions of taxpayer dollars will no longer be used to end innocent life. As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, I was a proud co-author of HB2 (SB2) and was honored to be selected to serve on the Conference Committee between the House and Senate for the historic bill to give relief and reform our property tax system. I voted to approve the funding for Border Security, I voted in favor of $7.5 million to DPS for Operation Draw Bridge Cameras and for analysts for the Transnational Intelligence Center. I voted to protect Texans from human and child sex trafficking.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

My background is in Education, so I understand that one size does not fit all when it comes to our kids. As a community volunteer, I understand that charities do a better job serving the needy and using resources in a more effective and discerning way than government. As a volunteer who worked tirelessly to promote good, conservative legislation, first as a member of a Republican Women’s Club, then as a member of the SREC, and now as a member of the Texas House, I hold dear the values of conservative government and legislative restraint. I was honored to be selected to serve as the only Freshman House member to the Boards of both the Texas Conservative Coalition and the Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute. I am currently serving on the House Ways & Means Committee, the House Human Services Committee and the House General Investigating Committee. In addition, I serve on the Republican Caucus Policy Committee. All these help me learn and grow as a legislator.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I am a mother and a grandmother, and I care deeply about leaving Texas a better place for the next generations. This can only happen through careful and constrained spending, conservative legislation, protecting the innocent, and guarding the ballot box from those that would highjack our election process.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

Strongly Disagree

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

Agree

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

Yes

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I firmly believe in the Second Amendment, and protecting the right of American citizens to own guns. Those convicted of felonies should be prohibited from buying, owning or possessing a gun.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Strongly Disagree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

Pro-life bills. These include bills that deal with issues on beginning and end of life and protecting innocent life at all stages. I am firmly pro Second Amendment, so bills that protect that right are vital to me. Limiting government spending. I am looking for ways to cut our spending while maintaining our core and necessary functions.

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

I am confused about this question, so let me just share my point of view. As a Christian, I am dedicated to sharing Christ with anyone and everyone. America has historically been a place of wonderful examples of acceptance, welcome and service to our fellow man because of our Christian forefathers. I pray that all racism would be put aside for the greater good of being that "beacon on a hill" that America has been for the world.
