QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
Not only do I agree, I carried and passed bills in the Texas House to do just that. I authored the bill that defunded all abortion providers in my first session in the Legislature. This past session I carried SB 33 in the House that prohibited Texas cities (Austin and San Antonio) from using local tax dollars to fund out of state abortions.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Elective abortions end an innocent life. I would never support the ending of innocent life, under any circumstance.
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Strongly Agree
I am pro-life from conception to natural death.
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.
Strongly Agree
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.
Strongly Agree
Absolutely. I’m proud of the work we did in the legislature during the special session to protect Texas women from out of state drugs being mailed into our state.
ECONOMY
What is your position on the minimum wage?
A strong economy with a high employment rate is the best way to raise wages, not artificially setting a minimum by law. A free and competitive economy gives everyone the opportunity for better wages.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
When government puts its finger on the scales, it distorts free enterprise. Government should be as limited as possible.
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
The House DOGE Committee found significant opportunities for savings. I’ve carried and passed 4 bills to protect our social services from waste fraud & abuse, saving taxpayers half a billion a year. I passed a bill that cuts red tape for adoptions, saving weeks in that process. I authored a bill that combines the four “do not hire” lists so that schools, juvenile justice and elderly populations hiring is streamlined and those populations are protected from predators. I’m ready to continue!
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Since I carried and passed SB 10 which put the Ten Commandments back into public school classrooms, I am a firm believer in remembering that the foundation of our Nation is Judeo-Christian. The first amendment reads: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;”. No where in law is “separation." The quote you used is often taken out of context. I am proud to be a Christian who is making a difference in government.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
The right of association is basic an American Right, and should be protected.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
C. Our most vulnerable Texans (our Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled Adults & foster children) need healthcare provided by taxpayers to survive. Unfortunately, we recover about half of a billion dollars in fraud each year. So, it was my honor to carry SB 745 to expand fraud prevention in our taxpayer healthcare system. A free market system is a better option. Health sharing groups and other innovative healthcare solutions should be encouraged, not hampered by government red tape.
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Strongly Disagree
Your healthcare needs and decisions should be your business alone.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
We passed two bills that deal with this issue this session: prohibiting foreign adversaries from owning property in Texas and HB 127 which dealt with this threat regarding our university research projects.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
As a Christian, I understand both the historical and future importance of the nation of Israel, and I pray for them. I am proud to have supported bills that give Israel preference in our Texas investments and trading partnerships. I’m concerned with what is going on in that part of the world, and I stand with Israel in the need to defend their land and their people.
IMMIGRATION
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Strongly Disagree
All cities should abide by the laws of our state and nation.
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
Absolutely. I’m excited by the prospect of the innovation that will happen as a result!
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Strongly Agree
Especially our public universities.
VALUES
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Strongly Agree
I voted for SJR 34 that became a constitutional amendment ensuring parents have the rights and responsibilities to make decisions on behalf of their child.
Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.
Strongly Agree
In Human Services and on the floor, I voted for HB 1106 which is now law that ensures parents refusing to use gender affirming pronouns cannot be counted as abuse. You wouldn’t believe the vitriol we endured during that committee hearing from those that testified. This issue is pivotal to allowing children the opportunity to mature from what might be a phase without permanent ramifications.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
First and foremost, I am a Christian. My own happy childhood with parents that were committed to each other framed my view. My 42 year marriage to Robert has given me a Biblical view of the joy that comes from living pure until marriage and faithfulness after marriage. God’s plan for man and woman is the best plan and results in our own good outcome if followed.
I support the expansion of gambling in my state.
Strongly Disagree
I am opposed to the expansion of gambling in any form. The Texas lottery has been rife with corruption, and parimutuel horse racing keeps coming to the Legislature and asking the state for money to prop it up, so our attempts at gambling for state income have been abysmal failures.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe that I am a sinner, saved by grace through innocent and perfect Jesus’ death. I believe that Jesus rose again and that he is my Savior. I believe that the Bible is the Word of God and that it is true. I believe that we can have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ and that He cares about the affairs of man. I begin each day by reading the Bible and praying. I ask God for wisdom and guidance. I believe that living a life of integrity honors God, and that He has a plan for those that follow His will and direction. We have attended, and been active members of our church since 1984, and love the fellowship we have by being part of that family of believers.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I served as an Election Judge for 20 years in Collin County, and prior to our requiring Photo ID’s I know that I had at least one lady come and vote twice during one election with two different voter registration cards. Our Texas elections are more secure because of Voter ID. Last session I was honored to pass an amendment to our Texas Constitution, SJR 37, ensuring that only US Citizens have the right to vote in any of our elections. Securing our ballot box is vital.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
That is not the role of government.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
I’m proud that we passed SB 8 to protect women in all private spaces this session. In previous sessions I was a proud cosponsor of SB 15 that protected Women’s sports on the College level, and a proud Joint Author on HB 25 which protects girls in K-12 from competing against biological males in women’s sports. I will continue to fight for the rights of my daughters and granddaughters to be protected.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Strongly Disagree
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
It is important that we have dispatchable (not weather-dependent) power available at all times. These are sources such as natural gas, hydropower, and nuclear.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
I believe in: Limited Government, Individual Liberty, Free Market, Traditional Values.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?
“Justice” is the key word. To assure that innocent people are NOT convicted of crimes. Protecting victims and giving them justice. Incarceration for criminals. I support the death penalty for capital offense since that is the ultimate deterrent- making sure that society is protected from that criminal with no possibility of parole or escape. In a nutshell, punishing wrong-doing, while encouraging right behavior as a society.
Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.
Strongly Agree
We have a responsibility to protect all Texans online. In the 88th session I was a coauthor of HB 18 that protects children from the harmful effects of social media by requiring parental consent for minors to use digital services. Also voted for HB 1181 which protected children from pornographic materials online, holding those who expose children to these images liable for damages.
Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.
Strongly Agree
This session I passed HB 4211 into law, specifically addressing the EPIC City development that is proposed in my district. The US Constitution and our Texas Constitution mean something. Laws and courts outside of the four corners of those bounds are not only unenforceable, but they are also illegal.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
People that are here illegally should not be able to acquire guns. People who are convicted of felony violent crimes should not have guns.
