One of 149 House Republicans who voted for H.R. 3746, the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, which suspended the nation's debt limit through January 1, 2025. A vote for H.R. 3746 allows the government to spend without limitation for 19 months at an expected cost of $4 trillion.
This candidate voted against HR 8404 repealing the Defense of Marriage Act. This vote indicates the candidate holds a position that supports traditional marriage.
HR 4350. Voted against drafting women into the military. House vote.
QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Human life should always be protected; consequently, I oppose abortion. An ethical doctor should make every effort to save each life (mother & baby) under all circumstances.
Does the federal government have a role to play in limiting abortion, and if so what federal steps and/or federal legislation would you support?
The Hyde Amendment must be defended. No federal dollars should fund abortion. Applied correctly, this would also prevent funding to abortion providers (like Planned Parenthood) and of travel by the Department of Defense. All federal dollars for medical schools should educate that life begins at conception.
ECONOMY
What actions would you take that would allow Americans to retain more of their income and wealth?
I have introduced legislation to repeal the 16th Amendment - income tax. Consumption taxes are less invasive, more efficient, and more effective while remaining progressive in the sense that those with disposable income consume more and pay more tax.
Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.
Strongly Agree
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Thankfully, the First Amendment protects religious freedom in America. Americans on the left have routinely and wrongly use the phrase separation of church and state out of context to prevent the free exercise of religion, as if faith should exist without corresponding works. Under the Articles of Confederation, states and territories had different religious traditions. Following the adoption of the 14th Amendment, all states must always protect the free exercise of religion.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
The Constitution rightly protects the free exercise of religion and strikes a reasonable balance with public accommodation laws. An example is the SCOTUS opinion in Masterpiece. Sell cakes to all, but no requirement to participate in a religious ceremony (same sex wedding).
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Vaccines should always be voluntary, but MRNA should be banned for use in humans and animals. Some settings, however, merit mandates. When I served in Ranger Regiment, our risk of contact merited the anthrax vaccine. Opting out meant out of Rangers.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
C. Individuals should be able to choose the combination of care, coverage, and cost they find best for their own circumstances from a range of high-quality alternatives in a truly competitive market. A safety net already ensures that no one goes without healthcare, but it needs to be reformed. Providing healthcare is not an enumerated power, so federalism offers a path forward. Eliminate most federal mandates and block grant all federal Medicaid on a per citizen basis.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
C.
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes. They serve as our primary ally in the Middle East and without our relationship Israel's existence would be highly uncertain.
What are the causes of decline in U.S. military recruitment and retention?
1. Culture. 2. Lack of a rational foreign policy. 3. Lack of commitment to decisive victory when America does engage in combat. 4. Inadequate care for those who have served. 5. Low pay for junior enlisted soldiers.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
America should welcome refugees from areas affected by US actions and help other refugees establish safe relocation closer to their home countries. No one should enter America illegally and remain in America. With a secure border where all who enter America can be positively identified, visa overstays effectively eliminated, and no sanctuary for illegals, I favor creating a new conditional visa enabling simplified legal immigration.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Agree
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
VALUES
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a sinner, saved by the grace of God, by no merit of my own, but through the fully sufficient and completed work of Christ Jesus. As John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Consequently, all people should love the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love our neighbors as ourselves. Clearly, not everyone shares my faith, even among the Christian community. But, as Romans 12:18 says, “If it is possible, as much as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” America’s culture has been historically Christian, but pluralistic and tolerant of diverse views as protected by the 1st Amendment.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
EQUALITY
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Strongly Disagree
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Nuclear energy is the best base-load for power generation. Nevertheless, fossil fuels including coal and natural gas are abundant in America and should be used.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
As the Declaration of Independence states, to secure the rights of men. Don't hurt people or take their stuff. Justice requires mediation when people fail this basic expectation.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
The Supreme Court should be reformed to include more seats.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The 2nd Amendment must always protect an individual American citizen’s right to keep and bear arms. Individual gun owners have saved countless lives, including their own, by exercising this right. I oppose gun control measures including red flag laws, expanded restrictions on lawful transfers, magazine bans, and others. Restrictions should be limited to people convicted of prior gun crimes, persons lawfully adjudicated mentally dangerous to themselves or others, and non-citizens.
