QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Under no circumstances should abortion be allowed.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
The state constitution should limit the growth of spending to the rate of population growth plus the rate of inflation.
Agree
Congress should pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.
Agree
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
Minimize government involvement in the regulation of the private sector. This encourages the willingness of individuals to take risks to improve their life situation.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
The government "sets the table" to make sure that everyone has fair access to opportunities to succeed. Ensure that educational options are readily available. Create a positive atmosphere and encourage marriage and traditional families which have bee the backbone of productive societies. Keep taxes and regulation low so that families/businesses can invest in causes of their own choosing.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Agree
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Healthcare is not a human right, so government has no moral obligation to ensure its accessibility. Certainly government may choose to involve itself, but government involvement has only increased the cost. The free market approach to healthcare is the best option. For those who cannot afford health insurance or are not provided through their employment, the government can create a minimal "safety net" that requires assistance for those who cannot help themselves, and temporary assistance for those in transition.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I support sanctuary cities.
Strongly Disagree
EDUCATION
Tuition-free public education should be guaranteed through college.
Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
George Washington's comment that “Religion and morality are the essential pillars of civil society” is still true today.
Strongly Agree
Any teaching to children on sex education in public schools must include all contraceptive methods, and should not show preference to abstinence.
Strongly Disagree
People should be allowed to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms based on "gender identity."
Strongly Disagree
Parents should be the primary authority in decisions affecting their minor children.
Strongly Agree
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
We all are conceived in sin and possess a sinful nature. The Founders recognized the human trait of greed can come in many forms--including political power. To inhibit the development of this in our nation's governance, balance was established through "checks & balances" between 3 coequal branches of our national government (this practice was adopted in the states as well). The Constitution also created a system of federalism to distinguish between powers of state and the national government.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a lifelong member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. My spiritual beliefs are best summarized by the Apostles' Creed: I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
