Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

None. The only time abortion should legally occur is when it is a natural consequence of a life-saving medical procedure for the mother.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

The sinful nature of human beings causes many of us to seize as much power as possible and use it for personal benefit--this inclination has historically led to much poor government, oppression and elitism. The Founders understood that government power could not be concentrated, but rather must be spread out. They also understood that the government needed to be subject to natural law (God).

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

Apostles Creed: I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. - - - - - I believe the Holy Bible is the inerrant Word of God. I am a sinner and deserve eternal condemnation in hell. Jesus, all Jesus and only Jesus, with no merit or worthiness in me, has earned for me eternal life in heaven. I love Him for what He has done for me and live my life in service to Him.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

Lower taxes--especially corporate and property. More money in the hands of consumers and business creates more economic activity, which in turn leads to more employment. Another method is to not make it so easy to be unemployed.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

A majority of Americans have developed the perception that healthcare is a "right". I believe the appropriate definition of a "right" is an entitlement provided to all people, protected by the government, that does not burden anyone else financially. Healthcare does not fit this definition. Nevertheless, as governing authorities of a caring and compassionate people, we should look to provide the framework for a system that creates a base of adequate access for all citizens. Such a system must incentivize preventive treatment, allow for timely treatment of trauma, respect life from conception to natural death, promote competition between providers, and recognize that equal access for all is not feasible nor practical due to geographic limits and financial diversity.

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

The government that stays out of the way is the best. The government can certainly impact positively by providing for building projects that benefit a wide swath of the public (transportation projects). However, the government should never incentivize the public to accept inferior products (solar power, wind power, electric cars, etc.). Certainly the government can create a positive environment by establishing business-friendly policies. If overall growth of taxes is held below the rate of the CPI, and sustained for at least a decade, the treasury would be overflowing with revenue and able to sustain the entitlements that have become a fixed part of our lifestyle in the US.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I have held the office since 2011 and have served during some of the most turbulent and impactful times in the history of our state. I have held a key committee position (Education chairman) for 4 years. My background in education (elementary and HS) has brought me into contact with a wide range of experiences. My municipal government background has given me a broad perspective on the impact of government in our lives.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

My life is rooted in my love for Jesus and his gift to me--my family. I have four God-fearing children, a new son-in-law, and a good Christian wife for 28 years. I recently completed my service as interim principal for a year in my congregation's K-8 school. This was a return to where I began my career, and was a reminder to me of who I am and for what I stand.
