Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I find abortion reprehensible. And I find almost no scenario where taking the life of an unborn baby is justified. From a legislative perspective, and as an interim step until public opinion ultimately and hopefully coalesces around the fact that there should be no abortion, I would support legislation that prohibited abortion in all situations except in cases of rape, incest, and where the mother's life would be in certain jeopardy by delivering the baby.

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
The state (government) should not establish a particular religion, or require that its citizens adhere to a religion, or to any religion at all. This does not mean, however, that religious people should inherently be disqualified from public service or that religious organizations should inherently be disqualified from supporting or opposing legislation.

HEALTHCARE

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Take it out of government hands. The further away from government control and the closer to full open market competition it gets, the better. Quality, availability, and innovation go up and prices go down when there are free market forces in play. To this end, all remaining remnants of ObamaCare should be ended. And markets should be opened to competition for insurance and services. Artificial boundaries of state lines should not be a continued barrier to competition. We will always need a safety net for those unable to participate in the market for insurance and services, and for our elderly who have counted on the promises our government has made. Medicare and Medicaid should be maintained, but expansion should be vigorously resisted and private sector options should be encouraged and made readily available.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Immigration should be primarily be used to recruit people for whom the United States has an established need that we are unable to meet internally. Secondarily, immigration should be allowed for verified asylum seekers and for close family members who have sponsors in the United States. All immigrants should be strongly vetted and they should commit to, and be held accountable to, assimilation, including learning English. While I believe in a strong border, and measured legal immigration, I also believe that everyone wanting to enter the United States should be treated with dignity.

2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I believe that our concealed carry law strikes a good balance. To get a concealed carry permit you have to go to a full day course with classroom, gun safety, and shooting. And you have to pass both criminal and mental illness background checks. While it's heartbreaking to see mass shootings, I believe the data is clear that the shooters were almost always not allowed to have the gun they used. We shouldn't punish law-abiding gun owners with more restrictions on them.

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. I would sponsor the Born Alive bill and re-submit. It is unconscionable that this bill is not law. 2. I would propose legislation that prohibits school athletes from participating in sports in other than their birth sex, or if they are in treatment that includes hormones for other than their birth sex. 3. I would propose legislation that required parental notification and an opt-out mechanism for all social curriculum being taught in NC elementary, middle, and high schools.

ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I am a conservative. I believe that we all have inalienable rights given by our Creator. I believe in Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. I believe life should be valued, dignified, and protected in the womb, in the nursing home, and every minute between. Conservatism rests on the belief that our liberty is inversely proportional to the amount we allow government to rule our lives. I believe in limited government, which also means limited taxes. I believe in Capitalism. I believe that when the private sector is unleashed, it provides goods and services, and untold innovation, and at prices, quality, and quantity that only free markets and competition can bring. This benefits everyone. I believe our foreign policy should be focused on trade and not military intervention. I believe we should use military force only as a last resort, but that if we do, it should be with unequaled might and resolve.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I believe that state and federal legislatures were designed to be filled, not with career politicians and lawyers, but with citizen legislators. I believe that we are much better represented when our representatives are already successful and are not in government to become successful. We have too many politicians who somehow make fortunes on a civil servant's pay. We need more people who aren't trying to find a way to get rich while in office, but who are serving. I was born in North Carolina and I believe this is the best state in the best country in the world. I am blessed to have 5 kids and 7 grand kids, all in North Carolina. I care about their future and the future of this great state. I served 8 years in the military and I have over 30 years experience entrepreneuring, building and growing businesses. I know the pressure of military service, and of employees and clients depending on you. Today I have 60 employees working in District 35 who currently count on me.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am a: compassionate common-sense conservative constitutionalist Capitalist Christian - I believe in strong immigration laws, while treating all people with dignity. - I believe voting should only be for citizens and that ID should be required. - I believe men are men and women are women. Children often wrestle with identity, but there's no scenario where a child should have life-changing surgery while struggling with gender dysphoria. Clarifying question #11: I believe the best deterrent to war is free trade AND a strong, well-trained military. Clarifying question #20: I would love to see zero abortions. If Roe is overturned, I would work to move legislation that provided for the least number of abortions that was legislatively possible. Clarifying question #23: I believe teachers/administrators should be allowed to carry at schools, provided they 1) want to; 2) have adequate training; 3) been subject to background checks, similar to concealed carry requirements.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian. I believe that we are all sinners in need of a Savior. I believe that God sent his son Jesus to this earth to be that Savior and that Jesus willingly died on the cross as the payment for our sins. I believe that through our faith and His grace that we can be saved and spend eternity in fellowship with God. My values follow from my faith. I believe that all people are made in the image of God and deserve dignity and respect. I believe that we should treat each other as we want to be treated, that we should love God and love each other. I believe in hard work. I believe there is no shame in work, no matter the job. I believe in personal responsibility. I believe we shouldn't look to the government to solve all of our problems, particularly ones where our poor choices have led to poor outcomes.
