QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Agree

As a nurse, I am a firm supporter in every parent's right to be involved in and make the medical decisions regarding their minor children. The legal position regarding sexuality in NC public schools is that of promoting abstinence. I am willing and able to help coordinate with other medical professionals to create a comprehensive sex ed curriculum that discusses age appropriate content with children and their parents, beginning in 5th grade, after school hours, with children divided by gender.

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Every person is created in the image of God and has value and uniqueness. We must embrace and celebrate the life of every person regardless of age, race, creed, gender or ability.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Students should not be allowed to pray in school.

Strongly Disagree

While I do not propose having corporate prayer be a mandatory event in our classrooms, I would be in agreement with quite moments each morning for students to focus themselves for the day ahead and I definitely support extracurricular groups which have a religious platform.

HEALTHCARE

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

Under no circumstances should the government tell a person what they have to put into their bodies. Every medical decision should be made between the patient ( or minor patient's parent) and their healthcare provider. Every citizen should have sufficient information to make medical decisions and no medical providers should receive compensation from the government or insurance companies for the percentage of their patients who "comply" with the will of the government.

ECONOMY

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Strongly Disagree

I am not in favor of lobbyists in any capacity. I believe that our government was designed to be responsive to the needs of the people and if we have a strong, communicative school board, who listens to the needs of parents, students, staff and constituents, then we will not need lobbyists to plead our case. The role of each school board is to be the liaison between the legislature, the schools, and the community. When those relationships are healthy, everyone wins.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I believe that state and local government should be responsible for the funding of K-12 public education as well as curriculum choices. I disagree that college should be funded through tax payers. It is my conviction that pubic education from K-12 should be sufficient to produce hard working, critically thinking, financially responsible, mature adults able to handle the stressors and obstacles of adult life and ready to engage in the community and enter the workforce. I would like to see our high schools partner with local corporations and businesses to offer work study programs and internships to our young adults. I believe that after 13 years of education, every high school graduate should be equipped to pursue the career of their choice or go on for further education, should they choose. I would like to see the federal government removed from the college loan system, as well, and bring that function back to local and state banks. The money from the federal government always comes with strings attached that limit the choices of NC citizens.

EDUCATION

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

If anyone is physically threatening someone, clearly under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or cursing/speaking in a vulgar way toward another person, they should not be allowed to speak in a public meeting.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Language Arts (Reading and Writing), Mathematics, Physical Fitness, Art & Music, American History, Science, Information Technology, Foreign Language, Personal Finance, Vocational Learning. I have tried to put these in the order of importance according to the grade level.

American civics education should emphasize our nation's founding principles of liberty and equality.

Strongly Agree

Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

Strongly Agree

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Strongly Agree

Federal funding always comes with more salaries to fill, more regulations, and less incentives to be innovative. There has never been a financially weak company that becomes more productive and lucrative by adding more rules, more staff, and less freedom to their organization. The same is true of the federal government. When they give funds, there are always stipulations for how it is used, and to make sure that those rules are followed, they need full time staff to watch over the process.

I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

Strongly Disagree

We must teach the truth about history so that we can learn from the mistakes. We also should be focusing our attention on the role models from around the world who have faced hardships, hatred, poverty, war and physical distress and have overcome those travesties to become well-adjusted, mature, people of integrity. I believe that we teach our young people to be kind, generous, hard-working, honest, law-abiding adults by giving them examples of others who exemplify those character qualities.

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

What is the function of the local school board?

The Wake County School board has four roles; to set policies that align with NC laws, to manage the nearly $3 Billion budget, to act as a liaison between the legislature, the school district, and the community, and to act as a safeguard against state or federal overreach into our lives. The school board and every elected officials' number one job is to secure the God-given rights of the individual. The school board should focus on academic excellence, financial transparency, the safety of every student and staff member as well as foster the collaboration between families and teachers to help every student reach their greatest potential.

Do you support the National School Board Association's characterization of parents who speak out at school board meetings as "domestic terrorists"?

No

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

The NC State Legislature, along with the county school boards, in conjunction with teachers and parent committees, should set the curriculum and resources used in the curriculum. We should connect with other states and countries who are successful in different disciplines and integrate their strategies into our schools.

Who has the ultimate right to control the education of children in public schools? (a) parents (b) teachers (c)school boards.

I think it needs to be a collaboration between all three of these entities because the schools have gone far beyond the sound, basic education that is required by law. When the schools wove political, sexual, and social issues into the curriculum, they overstepped their role as educators which demanded that parents intervene. When the school board took funding from the federal govt and pushed regulations and mandatory ideologies onto the teachers, they overstepped their role and have created disillusionment among teachers, students and parents. There should not be one entity which controls all aspects of public education. Just as our government has branches to promote checks and balances, our public school system should have many facets of input, but our joined goal should be the same. Preparing our young people for success in every area of their adult lives. When we work together, everyone wins.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

I do not believe that vaccinations, as a medical procedure, should fall under the jurisdiction of the school. That is a medical decision between parents and their medical provider.

I support mask mandates.

Strongly Disagree

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Strongly Disagree

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

I believe in limited government that seeks to protect the rights of every citizen, the freedom for citizens to worship as they choose, the authority of the parent in their child's affairs until the child is an adult, and liberty and justice for all. I believe in the right to privacy for the individual and that people should be judged by the content of their character. America was built through honesty, integrity, hard work and perseverance and we must return those virtues to our land.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

I have been interviewed by several news outlets over the past 7 years, including the News and Observer, WRAL, ABC 11, CNN, The Charlotte Observer, America's True Voice, OAN, The Epoch Times, and the BBC.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I am a devoted wife of 25 years, a mother to 5 wonderful kids, and have spent my life advocating for others, as a nurse, educator, missionary, foster parent and grassroots activist. I am fully capable of serving others who have different worldviews. I have always tried to advocate for others with compassion and professionalism and will do the same on the Wake County School Board. I want for every student to understand that they are fearfully and wonderfully made and that there is something special and unique about them as individuals. My desire is for the school to be a place where young people discover their passions and their gifting and are equipped to pursue careers that will be fulfilling and successful. As a school board member I will do all I can to promote every student to their greatest potential.

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in the God of the Bible, that He created heaven and earth and everything that exists. I believe that all people are created in God's image and have intrinsic value and purpose. I believe that we live in a fallen world, wrought with sin and that Jesus Christ came to take the sin of all people upon Himself so that we could have a relationship with a Holy God and be in His presence forever after we die. I believe in the biblical principles of right and wrong and that every person is personally responsible for the choices they make. I believe that children are a blessing from the Lord and are to be protected and raised up to follow their gifting and use the talents that God blessed them with to serve Him. I believe that justice should be blind and balanced and that everyone should work hard, serve others, and be honest. I believe that we were created to work and that there is great satisfaction in persevering through hardship to experience victory.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Parents are ultimately responsible for teaching sexual education to their children. Since many parents do not teach this, however, I think it is appropriate to offer basic discussions of the changes of puberty at 5th grade, to classes divided by gender, and with the parents in attendance. I think the classes should be in an evening or on a Saturday morning so that parents/guardians could attend. Even if a parent cannot attend, they should have to give consent. There can be more discussions on detailed topics as the students age, but it should not be a year long discussion, nor should it be done without parental knowledge and consent. In high school, parents should still be informed of the content that will be discussed, but after 16, should not have to consent to the discussions. With that said, these conversations should be rare and short. These topics do not need to permeate every subject in school.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

I believe that the first discussions, in fifth grade with parental involvement and consent, need to be centered around the impending changes during puberty, what to expect and the understanding that these changes are hard and it is absolutely natural to feel awkward and uncomfortable in your own skin during these years as well as discussions about human anatomy and the reproductive system. I believe that abstinence and sex being kept within a marriage relationship should be promoted and in middle school, discussions or physical and emotional health outcomes and the stages of pregnancy and fetal development can be discussed. In high school consent and contraceptive methods can be handled as well as sexual orientation. I think that sexually transmitted diseases must be discussed at the beginning of high school, as well. I do not think that abortion methods and side effects should be discussed. I do think that the side effects from hormones should be presented.

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Strongly Agree

EQUALITY

I support the teaching that an individual, solely by virtue of his or her race, is inherently racist, whether consciously or unconsciously.

Strongly Disagree
