RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Never. I believe there are medical procedures to save a mothers life that "might" be necessary; but that decision is between the Mother, her doctor, and her God.

ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
I am against taxes of any kind. In Alaska there is no income tax. The local boroughs have property tax. Along with the Permanent fund this has created a system where everyone is dependent on the money generated by the Permanent Fund. It results in an ever-burgeoning budget that is out of control. Perhaps the only way to tie the people to government spending is a tax of some sort. Any tax levied would have to have a vote of the people, and would have to be as close to the user as possible. I do not agree that the legislature should be the only implementation body for taxes if there's a need. The PEOPLE must be involved. The Alaskan City of Wasilla implemented a sales tax years ago. The adjust it up via a vote of the people for specific projects. Once the project is complete, the mayor can repeal the amount that the votes agreed to. This has resulted in a city that has no debt and yet has a new police station, a new library, and great infrastructure and road maintenance.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
There are so many things, in Alaska, that are hidden by the fact that the money does not come from the people. It comes from the Permanent Fund and is so easy for the legislature to spend. We need to look for efficiencies. The Marine Highway System has the same size budget as the entire Department of Transportation. it serves 80,000 Alaskans. Does this seem right. We absolutely need a ferry system for our villages that have come to depend on it. But we need to find efficiencies and common sense cost saving compromises with those villages, not only to save money, but to save the Ferry System. There are myriad other common sense efficiencies in so many departments. The university is another place that needs to be seriously looked at. We need to hire a president that will make the changes necessary to find money savings. One example is UAF where we have a world class marine biology program..... 475 miles from the nearest salt water.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?
None - This would actually be what Thomas Jefferson was talking about when he wrote to the Danbury Baptist Association that said that the American Legislature should "Make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a Wall of Separation between Church and State." To me this means the Government does not get to decide whether or not to close a church - even during a lockdown or pandemic.

HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
The current Obama-care lite, in Alaska, is unsustainable. We cannot continue to spend the largest piece of our budget on Health Care the way it is now. There are many ways to mitigate costs, from Price tags to consumer directed Health Savings accounts. I am pretty sure the genie is already out of the bottle so the only way to resolve this is B). Some form of government Health Care availability with incentives and controls. Private Health Care options should always be available and allowed.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
I think vaccines can be beneficial. But I think mandates are not. The freedom to choose what goes in to your body is among the most precious God given rights. I just don't understand the idea that everyone else must be vaccinated to protect others. If people believe vaccines are so effective then why are they worried if others are not vaccinated.

NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
Better education. Better training for the citizenry. I am not sure limiting our freedoms to protect against terrorism is the correct path. The TSA/DHS style of eradication is so expensive and so restrictive to our citizens that it is almost not worth it.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
Remove the requirement of registering every PFD applicant to vote. Clean the voters rolls annually. Require identification to vote. More in person voting and less reliance on mail in ballots. If mail in ballots are needed (for Military, shut-ins, etc) then they must be requested and the identity of the requestor validated before the ballot is sent. A risk limiting audit should be done after every election. And I firmly believe the Division of Elections director should be somehow responsible to the people - perhaps by election.

EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
We are not a fundamentally racist country. We are, in fact, a melting pot of all races. Americans come from all different countries and races. It is one of the things that makes us great as long as we are accepting of the fact that everyone is different. But when one race decides they are not being treated fairly, based on the rhetoric and often untruths of a few of their activists, and they bind together to actually keep themselves separate and to demand treatment over and above what everyone else is receiving, that is where the threat lies.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
I believe that we must be good stewards of our environment. But I also believe in common sense and safe development of our resources. Stricter environmental laws, and the associated permits and lawsuits are causing a complete shutdown of the economic development of Alaska. There needs to be a compromise with environmentalists and resource development that results in responsible and efficient monetizing of our resources.

ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Government is responsible for providing general services that the individual cannot provide for themselves. Police, Firefighters, that kind of protection. Government also provides the infrastructure for citizens to move around and conduct commerce, They do not do this for free, but serve as a clearing point for the payment of.... think of Toll Roads or Bridges. Government is really the only entity that can manage that type of infrastructure. Having said that, the Alaska Constitution takes a more socialist approach to government but it does allow that all power belongs to the people and the government is allowed to operate through their will only.

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
My legislative priority's are those of my district. They were so in District 8 and will be in the new district 30. I am very concerned about the waste of Salmon via fishery bycatch. I am also and advocate of finishing Port MacKenzie to support the 200,000 Alaskans that now live north of the Knik River. I am always interenested in responsible resource developement and firmly believe that no one on the planet is a better steward of our environment than Alaskans. We CARE about our state and we are best suited to develop it. Having said that, I am also a fan of limiting federal governement over-reach. The FEDS own 60% of Alaska. a Mere 1% is in private hands. We need to change that. The Federal Government should turn over the lands they promised us during statehood. They should also allow the state to determine which bodies of water are "navigable." We cannot continue to allow federal government park service bureaucrat employees to tell us what we can and cannot do in our state.

2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Any restrictions violate the second amendment which says "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The word "infringed" is very important in this context. Any regulation infringes on the right to keep and bear Arms. The Alaska Constitution is not any different. It says "A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The individual right to keep and bear arms shall not be denied or infringed by the State or a political subdivision of the State." Seems pretty clear to me.

Where does that end. A gun is a tool. Nothing more. Should we allow victims who were bludgeoned by a hammer to sue Craftsman or Stanley? Should we allow victims of a stabbing to sue Buck or Gerber? Should we allow victims of a car accident to sue Ford?
