Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I support the viability limitation except in cases when the mother's life is threatened. The main focus we should have is to protect reproductive rights for all women and to support programs to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

ECONOMY
Redistribution of income is needed to lessen the gap between the wealthy and working classes.
Agree
"Redistribution" is not an accurate term for what I believe needs to happen to create an economy that works for everyone. The massive income disparity we have in the US today is due to the ongoing damage done by trickle down economic theory that has been the foundation of our tax plan as well as corporate influence on Congress which has put the needs of corporations and the wealthy above everyday Americans.

The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.
Neutral
Cutting spending is not a one size fits all solution to debt management. In some instances, more investment in programs can stimulate the economy creating more revenue and in other cases we have waste and unnecessary spending which could be curtailed.

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
We need to bring back a demand side economy. Taxes need to be equitable. We have lowered rates and maintained deductions to the point that many individuals and large businesses can avoid paying their fair share all together. Some companies have managed to create foreign entities that are free from tax obligations for the parent company which needs to end. I believe we need to raise the cap on Social Security to a minimum of $500,000 and give a FICA honeymoon to micro-businesses transferring the border to larger businesses over $10M/year in revenue to counter the years of loss to trickle down economics. We need an economy that works for everyone and the abuse of our system put in place by Congress people who are there to protect the corporations that keep them in office needs to end.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
Te separation of church and state is paramount to Americans' ability to live free. A minority in this country is pushing for more region in government; however, if you have religion in government, that also opens the door to government in religion. This is the other side of that argument that many need reminding. Faith is deeply personal and to be able to worship or not and the beliefs associated with that should not be mixed with how our country is run.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

A business license is given by your state or municipality and the right to conduct most types of commerce are bound by a variety of laws with many purposes be it: safety, environmental protection, fair trade, liability, employment law, tax law and many other areas. Our constitution has a standard of equal protection under the law in the 14th Amendment and any business, must operate within the rule of law which does not support discrimination of any kind.

What should be the relationship between the church and the state?
The separation should be absolute. Jefferson said it best when he described the First Amendment right of religious freedom as being "a shrub that separates the wilds of the world from the gardens of heaven." No government regulation, restriction or prescription of religions beliefs should ever be had. And no religious belief should be the framework for legislation. To do so would set a dangerous precedent. The King of England changed the religion of an entire nation with the stroke of a pen and there are still issues with that decision hundreds of years later. The majority of US citizens are Christians, but Christianity is not a monolith. There are wide debates about faith and these debates are best left to the individual private lives of our citizens and the only role of government should be to protect that right.

HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Development of vaccines has been one of the biggest achievements in modern medicine. They have saved millions of lives the world over from death and disease. Balancing that with the right of body autonomy is a constant debate. The US has the right within the law to require vaccines for the purpose of public safety; however, I do believe we need to expand the laws of informed consent for many medicines and medical procedures so that people can not only make informed decisions about their own care, but also increase confidence in government protocol through increased transparency.

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
A. Americans do not need health insurance; they need healthcare. There should be no profit primitive in healthcare. I believe that any healthcare system, just like any new doctor, should be held to the standards of the Hippocratic oath beginning with "First do no harm"

NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Neutral
I believe that the motivation behind BDS is not a byproduct of racism, but an attempt to use non-violent means for change in protection of Palestinians. My neutrality for this movement is based on my belief this movement is not the only path to achieving a better resolution to this problem, but I respect the non-violent nature of its directives to achieve better protection for all people.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
Over 80% of Islamic terrorist attacks on the US have originated from citizens or residents. Increasingly we have seen the growth of a variety of extremist organizations throughout our country. Part of what needs to be done is to reset our thinking about the demographics of a terrorist and focus on the activities that center on recruitment and the financial systems that fund terrorist operations. There will always be enemies to our nation and directed at faith, gender, skin color and other human attributes and beliefs that draw hate, but the ability to make those beliefs actionable are filed by money and people. This is a cyber war and a financial war before any attack ever happens. I would look to our current leaders charged with securing our nation and see where they need funding and resources to protect both our citizens and people across the globe.

IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Neutral
The majority of undocumented people arrive on a valid visa and overstay. Certainly, there is a need for some physical barriers or infrastructure, but this is not an easy fix. Simply blocking off our neighbors is an expensive and ineffective idea to better regulated the flow of people and commerce over our borders.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
The current mix of limited and unlimited visa status that are available provides a combination of compassion and our need to maintain our labor force, keep families together and be a welcoming part of the global community. Blanket bans are troublesome, but are sometimes necessary to protect our homeland, but they should be reviewed frequently and exceptions should be made through a special application process. Our current system is often unnecessarily harsh due to unilateral rules that do not always fit the changing demands and global events as people migrate around the world. Conversely, we have a system that maintains an extremely high number of undocumented people and the need to monitor and discharge or admit some of them is not being done in a comprehensive way. Although immigrants tend to commit less crimes than citizens on average, the ability to keep our streets safe from bad actors who have no traceable identity here poses a problem. We need to better by creating a higher standard of vigilance so we can protect ourselves as well as those who migrate for our protection. In some cases, the laws regarding discharge and not being able to reapply are unnecessarily cruel and hold no absolute purpose without context or reason.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Neutral
There is a tremendous amount of truth to this theory, and it is a great way to exercise thought on how we create a more equitable society, but the priority of this graduate study work is to examine the problem and explore how we got here, and look for solutions, not to simply make a declaration about racism in US institutions. The United States is not the only country affected by racism, so it is not inherently a US problem, nor is racism the source of all disparity.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Agree
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
The John Lewis Act needs to be passed. I believe we need mail in voting as a mandatory option nationwide as well as an extension of the ballot period. In a country of 330 Million people, we are underserved in sufficient access to polling stations as well as time to perform our civic duty and exercise our right.

EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Agree
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes. We have seen a rise in hate groups in the United States and hate based crimes including murder. Only last week an African American neighborhood was targeted in NY and 10 people were killed. Domestic Terrorism is on the rise and much of it is motivated by race.

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
B. However, we can do more that just create a punitive system; we can also support green initiatives to make "going green" an incentive and it is worth the stimulus/subsidy money to protect our planet and the health of humans. I am promoting regionalized, sustainable farming to reduce carbon emissions and stimulate the economy of rural America. Packaging reduction laws and the promotion of cellulose packaging manufacturing is a big move forward that also supports agriculture, creates jobs at prevailing wage and reduces land fills.

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
Ann Marie Danimus has deep roots in Washington and a vision of prosperity for our district. She is the only candidate for the 5th with a comprehensive plan for economic development. She’s a fighter, a survivor and a problem solver. Once brought to her knees physically and financially by a double organ transplant, she rebuilt her life and now wants to help rebuild the Fifth. Ann Marie Danimus’ plans rest on three core tenets: BRINGING BUSINESS BACK by expanding small business services and loans, as well as tax breaks for micro businesses to pay living wages. She will focus on current and future green energy needs and bring regionalized, sustainable farming, green manufacturing, renewable energy and good paying jobs BUILDING OUR FUTURE by investing in our children’s education, expanding access to trade schools and reducing college fees and loans- to prepare generations of Washingtonians. Expanding broadband to our rural communities. LEAVING NO ONE BEHIND by supporting legislation towards universal healthcare, support for rural areas, seniors and those living with disabilities. She will endeavor to reinforce laws that protect equal rights and representation for ALL Americans. She will fight for our veterans to receive help and treatment while on active duty and beyond by supporting expansion of the TAP program, increasing mental health outreach to help end the suicide epidemic that is claiming the lives of so many who have served. WA-05 can no longer afford to have an out of touch career politician who is backed by dark money and supported “The Big Lie”. For 18 years her only consistent achievement is failure to deliver. It’s time for someone new. Someone who has pledged to take Not One Penny Ever from corporate PACs and lobbyists and will focus on “We the People”. It’s time to vote “D” for Danimus.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Disagree
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Disagree
We need add funding to these programs and use police budgets to provide better training, more officers, de-escalation techniques, mental health services/suicide awareness and treatment for PTSD. It would be wise to consider separating certain departments like traffic and other administrative duties that are handled by police. Expanding Crime Check services nationwide would help to divert many calls that could be handles by community services, but we will need training to establish protocols.

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Background checks closing all loopholes, red flag laws, ban manufacturing of mags over 10 rounds, age restrictions for gunownershipr, training requirements for certain weapons and tiered licensing, safety requirements for storage.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Agree
No one person or entity should be above the law with no limits. It would be up to the plaintiff to find cause and decided by a jury.
