I believe that life begins at conception and want to fight to protect the sanctity of life. In Congress, I would focus on stopping late-term and taxpayer funded abortion. I do believe that there should be exceptions when the life of the mother is at risk or in the cases of rape and incest.

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Separation of church and state means that the state will not infringe on the rights of the individual to worship as they see fit or seek to promote one religion over another, or establish a state church. The idea of the separation of church and state is not something found in the Constitution, and it is unfortunately a concept that has been misused to attack and remove religion from the public square.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
I flew 55 combat missions over Baghdad in 2006. I am acutely aware of the threats we face in the Middle East and beyond. I believe the Trump administration is doing a good job of eliminating the leadership of terrorist organizations while keeping us out of prolonged and extended conflicts. For example, I believe that his order to eliminate Qasem Soleimani, who as active in smuggling anti-American weaponry into Iraq when I was stationed there, was absolutely the correct decision.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I believe that we need to introduce free market reforms back into the healthcare system to increase competition to drive the cost of care down. If we do that, we can provide healthcare that matches the three above criteria. I believe that by allowing policy purchase across state lines, increasing transparency in the system and greater flexibility in coverage plans, the costs of our care will decrease without hurting quality.

How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
We must protect the system as it exists for those at or near retirement. For people my age and younger, we should examine reforms to ensure this program remain solvent without piling up trillions in new debt.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
We need to have a serious conversation about our spending. Last year, we had the highest revenue this country has ever seen, and yet we added 1 trillion to our debt. We don’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem. First, I believe that we need to fully repeal Obamacare. That alone would save us significantly. I also believe that there is enormous amounts of fraud, waste and abuse throughout all government agencies. We need to take a serious look at eliminating that.
Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?
When someone accepts a student loan, it is their responsibility to pay it off. I took out student loans in order to attain graduate degrees that I believe will benefit my career. If I received a bailout for my student loans, it wouldn’t be fair to all those who chose not to attend school because of the cost, or to people who saved to pay for college or already paid off their loans.
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

We are a Nation of immigrants and legal immigrants make valuable contributions to our state and country every day. However, as President Trump says, there is a big difference between legal and illegal immigration, and we need to ensure that legal immigrants are not taking the jobs of Americans. I oppose illegal immigration and will work with President Trump to build the wall and secure our southern border.

We already have significant restrictions on owning guns. We need to start by enforcing the laws we have on the books to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals, terrorists and the mentally unwell. I am a gun owner and I believe the Second Amendment is critical to protecting our families and our liberty.

My great-great-grandfather was brought here as a slave. There is no doubt that we have a complex racial history in our Nation. We have made great strides as a Nation and need to continue focusing on what unites us rather than what divides us.

The first is Jesus Christ who died for us, and the second is the American soldier who puts it all on the line for our freedom and way of life. I put my life on the line in defense of our great country and our Constitution, and I will stand up to those who want to change the system that has made this country the greatest in the history of the world.

I believe deeply in this country and our future. I decided to run for Congress because I want to continue my service to this great country, and I believe that the City of Houston is under attack from liberals in Washington who would destroy our energy industry.
