QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

The US Supreme Court sent the choice back to the citizens of the states. Washington State decided by way of People's Initiatives. I am pro-life as an abortion survivor. Funding services that protect life is pro-choice. I respect the doctor patient relationship and the private issues of family matters. Moreover, I support options for individuals to keep their babies while becoming self-sufficient and prosperous. Free will is between an individual and GOD concerning the religious aspect.

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Agree

1. As with any medicine, or medical procedure, there are always risks that should be considered. Most people support reasonable safety standards for all medical products and procedures. 2. Collecting reasonable data helps provide better products while monitoring outcomes and or emerging healthcare issues to protect women's health. New bills such as SB 5768, HB 1469, HB 1340, HB 1155, SB 5242, and an initiative of the people I-2081 become law in 2024. I-2081 is being challenged via lawsuit

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Agree

Other options to fund abortion services exist for those who choose abortion. Relying on taxes is a tax shift to working individuals. SB 5242 passed into law concerning insurance companies in 2024, and struggling Washington State taxpayers should not be forced to pay the bill for individuals from another state or country seeking abortion services in Washington State.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Disagree

Dying with dignity is not the same definition for everyone. Suicide is a personal choice whether secular or religious. SB 5179 expanding access to death with dignity passed into law in 2023 without proper checks and balances. Pro-life and pro-choice individuals will make their own decisions as their choice. We must also safeguard against assisted suicide from being used in a nefarious and or possibly criminal way that may culminate in unintended consequences. Balance matters.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Free markets have lifted more people out of poverty than any other option in history. A good job is still the best social program in existence to foster prosperity and dignity.

What is your position on the minimum wage?

Minimum wage is a starting point on the economic ladder. It was never meant to be a living wage. Many opportunities exist in the military, trades, and college paths to enhance skills and education to secure living wage jobs. Financial literacy helps.

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

No

ESG has no place in the free-market business climate. It is up to a business to draw talented workers based on the business needs and customer wants. Individuals are always free to start their own business if they have better ideas or products. Consumers benefit from competition that in turn leads to new ideas and opportunities.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

I can't think of a reason government should be allowed to close down churches. Hard lessons were learned during Covid when church activities were restricted or prohibited. During the time churches were restricted or closed, many public businesses were allowed to remain open as essential services and or businesses. It made no sense and is being proven now to have been both unfair, unequitable, and I believe unconstitutional. Covid did not know the difference between a church or a business.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

A free market allows anyone to shop where they like and businesses to provide goods and services they choose to offer. The US Constitution affords many rights for individual liberty and is not meant to be discriminatory in intent. Freedom of conscience is a factor of liberty in the pursuit of happiness granted to us by God and nature. Competition creates opportunity to thrive for businesses that prioritize customer service needs over businesses that do not.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

Medicaid and Medicare are at the federal level. Number C keeps those programs in place while allowing Medicare individuals to buy supplements if they choose. Conversations are going to have to be had regarding who uses the resources and how to increase medical reimbursements.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

None without informed consent free from coercion which is already in existing law. We need respectful robust debate regarding what we are getting right, wrong, or must improve concerning required or mandated vaccinations. Trust/rights were abused.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

This concern is even more so due to our wide-open boarders and policy bills such HB 1889 that remove some barriers to professional jobs and licensing. Ignoring the potential for real harm if bad actors harm or kill US citizens in our country shouldn't be tolerated. Friends, don't steal property, send harmful products, or propagandize our citizens in our own country. Immigrants who love this country, contribute, and do things the proper way, have been and are welcome.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

The U.S.- Israeli alliance now contributes more than ever to our American security. Bilateral cooperation to manage military and nonmilitary challenges have increased through the years with Israel being our oldest ally. Israel acts as a necessary counterbalance to radical extremists in the Middle East. In addition, Israel helps to reduce Iraq and Syria's nuclear proliferation attempts. On religious and moral grounds beliefs vary for many reasons.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

The incompetence under the Biden Administration concerning our southern border since 2020 is a threat to our national security. The humanitarian crisis unfolding on television is coming home to roost in untenable ways in every state in our borderless nation. Public safety, local resources, and the rule of law are overwhelmed. Cartels, gangs, and traffickers profit from illegal drugs, human trafficking, weapons, and dangerous people that injure and kill people on both sides of the boarder.

EDUCATION

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Strongly Agree

Parents are voting with their feet. 21 states have tax credit scholarships. 16 states have education savings accounts. 10 states and the District of Columbia have vouchers. Lastly, 2 states have tax-credit education savings accounts. During the 2023-24 session, I co-sponsored HB 1615 to establish education accounts for students in need of support. HB 1633 to create a family empowerment scholarship program was a bi-partisan bill introduced in the 2023-24 legislative session. Both bills died.

VALUES

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.

Strongly Agree

Initiative 2081 will become law in Washington State. The initiative was derived from HB 1601 which I sponsored during the 2023-24 legislative session. The bill was born from an outpouring of parents and caregivers of every persuasion asking for help. The bills wide public support was corroborated when the Initiative easily garnered far more signatures than needed to move to the legislature. A lawsuit has been filed to block the Washington parental rights people's initiative.

Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.

Strongly Agree

Parents and caregivers provide both a nurturing role and a structural role. The role of parents in a child's life is significant to prepare children for life as adults and to transmit cultural values and traditions. Children also rely on parents/caregivers to provide safety, financial support, supervision, medical care, education, and guidance until the child is old enough to care for themselves and make decisions.

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Disagree

Most individuals that I encounter are opposed to experimental and irreversible hormonal or surgical interventions for minor children. Ethical concerns about long-term negative effects on a child's physical and mental wellbeing are not unique to the U.S.A. The story of Dr. John Money and the Reimer twins looms large considering taxpayer funds to experiment on children. Individuals choosing to detransition tell their stories of regret on social media. We should pay attention to their stories

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Agree

In the traditional religious sense, marriage is between one man and one woman. I am traditional. The decision to choose whom an individual loves is also a matter of free will in the religious sense. Additionally, from a constitutional standpoint, the pursuit of happiness is protected as an individual right. Civil unions were/are recognized from a secular standpoint to protect individual rights. I respect both as personal choice.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

Voting is a right and a privilege that comes with responsibilities for US citizens to protect our elections process. If we can require photo ID for other rights and privileges in our country to include driving, getting on an airplane, accessing services, buying alcohol, etc., then voting is no different. We provide options to gain legal picture identification and some at no charge.

States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.

Strongly Disagree

The founding fathers did not favor mob rule. As a result, they aimed to ensure that less populous regions would still carry weight during important elections. This was determined to be the best way to stop the most populated areas from deciding for the entire country and election.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

No. Racism is a human failing that is wrong regardless of what human perpetrates it on another or when.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

Critical race theorists are masters of language construction who realized that "neo-Marxism" would not be easily accepted in the US. Equity, by a different name, sounds non-threatening and is easily confused with the American principle of equality. America was founded on the promise of equal opportunity, not equal outcomes regardless of hard work, sacrifice, enginuity, ideas, work ethic, or financial literacy.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

Biological women have a right to be protected in their most vulnerable spaces. In addition, biological women and girls' rights matter in every space they occupy for their safety and wellbeing. Moreover, biological males are different on many levels, including sports, which has become increasingly obvious as biological males are dominating women's sports across the nation. Biological women are being injured and robbed of opportunities they have worked their whole lives to achieve.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.

A and C.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

That depends on the location and options that are available. Energy choice options with local control and input from families, businesses, and communities is the best option.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No, I have never been penalized for sexual misconduct either civilly or criminally.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No, I have never been convicted of a felony.

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

The primary purpose of government is to maintain order and stability so that its citizens may live safely and productively, while pursuing life, liberty, and happiness through generations.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

As a military veteran and in an elected position, I take very seriously the oaths I have taken. It is our duty to help all we are elected to serve within the best of our ability. That duty isn't always easy or fair depending on points of view and the law. All political power is inherent in the people and founded on their authority for their equal protection and benefit. No system is perfect for every individual, but I believe America's is the best.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Strongly Disagree

Washington State is going in the wrong direction to attain safe and clean neighborhoods for all. We are dead last in the nation for police officers per capita to help those making 911 calls in desperate need of help. The same holds true for investigating and solving crimes. Police can't dispatch or assign officers that don't exist. Strong public policy that enforces our laws, accountability, and opportunities for reform save lives and futures. The state has a duty to protect citizens first.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

The founding fathers understood well the importance of an armed and disciplined populous to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government. Our state has existing laws on the books to hold accountable those who break our laws. The laws are not sufficiently being enforced. The risk vs reward choices have become profitable for the criminals which we see play out on the nightly news.

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

Yes

That is a decision I believe is best left up to the local control of the people to decide.
