QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
None. In rare instances: If a mother's life is in danger based on a doctor's assessment. A mother and doctor should be able to make the medical decisions to save her life. Such actions may result in the death of the child, though such circumstances are rare.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
There are many people, such as myself, who don't believe in abortion. No such individual or organization should have their tax dollars publicly support something they are against personally.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
Taxes should be reduced for citizens. Additionally, once a person has the deed to their homes, property taxes should cease. Finally, a simple, transparent flatter tax, which is fair to all should be considered.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Spending on Illegal Immigration. It cost Americans in upwards of $365 million per day and Texas pays about $850 million per year. Government subsidies should be reviewed and some cut.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
Citizens are taxed enough already. We are not a socialist nation and such action pushes us closer to being one.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
We must uphold constitutional rights such as religious freedoms / protection, no matter how emotional people may get and desire to violate them.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
None, that line should not be crossed.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
C. Medicaid and Medicare should be available, but must be reformed / restructured.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
None, this should be a parent or guardians decision.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
As a University Instructor covering the topic of World Religions, the U.S. must educated its' citizens on Islam. Once they have a basic understanding of the religion, they can have a greater understanding of how Islamic terrorism may arise. The threat of Islamic terrorism may not, however, be totally eradicated. There will always be someone trying to make a point through terroristic threats and actions.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
I support Israel, its' right to exist, and not be faced with BDS movements unfairly.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Absolutely, it cost tax paying citizens too much in many ways not to secure our southern border.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
People desiring to follow our established laws to gain entry and citizenship. Additionally, such people should not be predisposed to destroy America. Instead they should be people seeking to help our nation prosper.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
America was founded on Christian beliefs. The majority of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence had seminary degrees or some religious training. It is highly likely that such foundational backgrounds influenced their decision making while shaping our government.
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Such a status is subjective and can easily be abused. As such, employers, religious entities, etc. may be unfairly targeted and treated under such laws.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
The key assumptions of which CRT is grounded on are flawed as it presupposes that everything about American society is racist and minorities will never reach equality in society until it is reformed. It also unfairly blames entire groups of people for the sins or faults of their ancestors and inevitably make such blame inescapable. This is not Christian thought, but aligns closer to communist or Marxist concepts and is destructive to our nation.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian and follower of Jesus the Christ. The Word of God as prescribe in the Holy Bible is foundational to how I lead and live my life.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Without an ID, you can't: buy alcohol, cigarettes, open a bank account, rent or buy a house or apply for a mortgage, drive/buy/or rent a car, get on an airplane, get married, purchase a gun, adopt a pet, buy a cell phone, get a job, etc. So, if who you vote for will regulate such laws, surely a photo ID to vote must be a priority and mandatory.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
Push for and encourage all states to maintain accurate lists by matching death records, driver’s licenses, tax rolls, felon records, etc. Create a national database to ensure voters moving from state to state are not able to vote in multiple states for the same election. Recommend states require voters to use the REAL ID card, which was mandated in a law signed by the President in May 2005. Push for states to prohibit third parties or political operatives from collecting ballots—a practice commonly known as “ballot harvesting.” Tougher laws allowing for the prosecution of voter fraud must be enacted.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
How do you quantify or measure racism? What's considered racist may be subjective in many instances. I do not believe America has a problem with racism which rises to the level of a threat to domestic security. Isolated instances or self-proclaimed racist should not hijack the narrative of America nor cast a shadow over the advancements the nation has made with regard to race. Further, we have the best law enforcement and intelligence agencies in the world, then surely they can and have helped stop many isolated threats which may have been grounded on racist ideology.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Disagree
Providing reparations of people in America based on race would become problematic for our nation, cause more division and a rise in racial tension. The thought of reparations may sound great, but the reality is it would be near impossible to distribute, fairly identify recipients, fund, etc. and ultimately may cause more issues than resolutions.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
a) We must work with environmental organizations and promote efforts to reduce pollution in the environment while striving to access the vast resources which will benefit our economy and our energy independence.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Agree
Such methods will continue to pave the way towards our nation's energy independence, employ Texans and Americans as a whole, and help us to advance economically and other ways.
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Uphold the U.S. & State Constitutions and carry of the will of the people. Oversee the powers allotted at the federal and state level.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Google "Tim Westley" and you will find years of interviews online by way of articles, YouTube, etc. All of which will confirm my answers.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I will fight hard for Texans and work with my team to raise the General Land Office to a greater level of excellence. I will prioritize our journey to Energy Independence, elevating Texas education system from the bottom half of the 50 states to the top 10 percent with the use of the $40+ billion in Permanent School Funds, and identify all public lands on our 1254-mile southern border and partner with other organizations to secure it. Ultimately, I will plan accordingly and ensure that when natural disasters strike Texans are served and helped immediately. Additionally, I will listen to the will of the people and work hard to serve them!
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Agree
I agree that qualified immunity is need for our police officers whom I support. Removing it would make it harder for police to do their and would likely cause many officers to leave their jobs. However, we must have some standard and review of department policies which helps to ensure a decrease in any questionable practices which may lead to the need for qualified immunity.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
There is a need for increase mental health and community programs, but not at the expense of our police departments. We spend about $365 million daily on illegal immigration. Let's curb that and we will have funds for the aforementioned without weakening our police forces.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Overall, current gun ownership laws are sufficient. However, mental illness as associated with gun deaths is an issue. About two-thirds of gun deaths are due to suicide. As such, those deaths highlight the potential of mental illness being associated with such deaths, so we must address mental illness.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
These are business owners and companies who should not be punished due to the actions and choices of individuals.
