What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

I would cut subsidies to unreliable energy sources and corporations which often oppose the values of average Texans and use their power to lobby against the people's interests. I would also reform welfare programs to lift the able-bodied into fulfilling and lasting careers instead of keeping them dependent on government. I would also end taxpayer-funded lobbying and government incentives for illegal immigration.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that he came to Earth in the form of a baby, born of a virgin, and that he lived, was crucified, and rose again to redeem mankind from our sin. This is a free gift that we must choose to accept. He taught his followers to love others selflessly and to exemplify him, which is how I strive to live my life.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

Strongly Disagree

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

I have authored many, many bills to strengthen election integrity and am a 6-year member of the House Elections Committee. We accomplished a great deal by passing the Election Integrity Act of 2021, which received nationwide attention when the Texas Democrats tried unsuccessfully to stop it by leaving the state. I believe there is plenty more to be done. One of my bills would allow voters the ability to mark "I choose not to vote in this race" on mail ballots so that there are no blanks for bad actors to fill in later. Another would require election officials to use the security functions prescribed by law for electronic poll books. Another of my bills would give citizens a way to quickly remedy confusing ballot proposition language.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Rice University provides a ranking of Texas Legislators based on how conservative or liberal they are, and I am consistently in the Top 10% Most Conservative category. My voting record and the bills I have authored speak for themselves. I authored and passed the Save Girls' Sports Act, which keeps biological males out of girls' sports, in spite of intense lobbying efforts by leftwing interests who tried to stop the bill.
