What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

Virginia government taxes far to much and our taxes should be reduced significantly. I am in favor of significant tax reform, but it has been difficult to do with the political makeup of the Virginia legislature. We need to reduce taxes and regulations so that businesses can grow. Some areas to reduce spending are high-end salaries for state officials, especially at our colleges and universities. We also should eliminate, as I have tried, funding for abortions, birth control, etc.. Forcing religious individuals and organizations to violate their consciences in order to provide much-needed services like mental health treatment, counseling, foster and adoption services, and more is unconstitutional and just bad policy. There will always be secular organizations and government agencies willing to provide services to those who do not agree with a religious organization's beliefs and policies.

C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

C) At this time, I'm afraid that removing the safety net programs entirely is not feasible. If families and churches were able to step up and take over caring for these needs, that would be great, but I think that our culture has declined to the point where that's not a reasonable solution. I do think we need to significantly reform these programs to reduce costs, prevent fraud, and place reasonable time limits on eligibility for all but permanently disabled individuals. I have introduced legislation and budget amendments attempting to do some of these things.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

We need to maintain strong and capable military forces, intelligence operations, and diplomatic teams to make it clear that any threats or attacks against the United States will be promptly and severely answered. We need to also make sure that we are supporting Israel and any other peaceful allies in the Middle East.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

There is a place for immigration when needed to provide skilled workers in specific careers, as well as true humanitarian refugees for those facing religious or political persecution, and who are willing and able to assimilate into America without long-term government support. These should be carefully limited by Congress.

I have introduced numerous bills to provide Education Savings Accounts, tax credits, and additional protections and provisions to enable parents to determine the best educational opportunities for their children, as well as get rid of inappropriate materials and policies in our public schools. However, today's environmental laws and regulations worship the creation rather than the creator, and cause more harm than good. They are significantly damaging our economy and quality of life, while helping the economies of our enemies around the world, where they continue to pollute without concern for the environment. Many of the so-called "Green Energy" projects also are damaging to the environment and society through the way the materials they consist of are sourced. We can and must take a common-sense approach to increase the availability of affordable energy while not abusing the environment.

The role of government, as explained in our Declaration of Independence, is to to secure the rights that have been given to us by God. "...endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed..." The Bible also says governors are to protect citizens from criminals, as they are ordained by God "to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right." I Peter 2:14

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

While mental health is a serious public safety concern, and we do need to do more there, we must also ensure that our law enforcement is fully funded, staffed, and trained. I have introduced numerous budget amendments to increase funding for law enforcement staffing and training.

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
