Probably Grizwold v. Conneticut, which was decided in 1965. Grizwold is the case in which the U.S. Supreme Court found that the Constitution provided a right to privacy. The Court found this right within what it described as "penumbras" within the Constitution. This opinion has been at the core of a number of decisions that have dramatically impacted the culture.

The tendency to pursue self-interest.

Again, Grizwold is a decision not based upon strict constructionist principles. It was rooted not in the words found in the Constitution, but in "penumbras."

It is important to understand what the Legislature who passed a law understood to be the meaning of the words it chose to use in drafting the law.
