How Do the Candidates Measure Up?

Proverbs 18:17 says, “The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.”

We will likely see this truth play out in the first Republican presidential debate Wednesday evening, August 23, 2023, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Fox News debate will be moderated by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum and will be covered across all platforms operated by the news network including Fox Business Network, Fox News Digital, the Fox Nation streaming service, and Fox News Audio. It will begin at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time, 8:00 p.m. Central Time, 7:00 p.m. Mountain Time, and 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

So, why watch a debate? It’s always interesting to see the candidates and hear from their own mouths how they define (or fail to define) their positions and interact with each other. Because it can be challenging to keep the issues in the forefront of your mind amid the campaign rhetoric and personalities, iVoterGuide has created a Debate Watch Checklist to help you track each candidate’s views.

We’ve included crucial issues like the sanctity of life, the economy, national security, and more. Just download and print the checklist before the debate. When a candidate’s views align with your own, put a check mark in their column. When their views do not align with yours, put an “X.” Tally them up at the end to see how the candidates did during this debate.

I hope this tool helps you think more deeply than most voters as you consider:

  • Did the candidate answer the question?
  • What did they say that aligns with my values?
  • What did they say that doesn’t align with my values?

In addition to learning what each candidate believes, this debate is also an opportunity to ask yourself what you believe, and why.

Every voter’s goal should be to discover their candidates’ values and principles in order to make an informed decision. iVoterGuide is excited to help you with that goal as you watch the debates. We’ll be watching closely, too, and starting to put the pieces together for our Presidential Primary Voter Guide. In 2024, we’ll be covering both the Democrat and Republican Presidential Primaries.

Feel free to share this resource with friends. Thank you for staying engaged and helping us equip more people to vote wisely!
