Welcome Christ this Election Day

We Know What the Bible Says

We’ve finally arrived at Election Day. If you’ve not hit the polls yet, check out our printable checklist to help make your voting experience as smooth as possible today.

It can be hard to carry on “business as usual” on Election Day. Some of you may be energized with zeal and a fresh urgency to pray for our nation. Others may be experiencing a heightened sense of anxiety or a feeling of doom and gloom. Or perhaps the elections are on the back burner for you because of personal stressors and sorrows, or even celebrations and joys.

No matter what’s stirring in our hearts, we know what the Bible says...

“Come to me,” Jesus says in Matthew 11, “all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

The Savior also instructs us “do not worry” in Matthew 6: “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? … But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Paul echoes the command in Philippians 4: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

When prayer isn’t easy

Even when we know the scriptures and we’ve personally experienced God’s faithfulness, it can be hard to bend our weary, anxious, distracted souls under the Lordship of Christ and truly welcome His presence.

Prayer may be the easy answer, but it’s not the easy path. It’s far easier to keep the news humming all day, scroll social media, complain to a friend, open the refrigerator, or escape into entertainment.

Lord, have mercy on us.

Throughout this election season, I’ve said it repeatedly: We’re in a spiritual battle. The Apostle Paul says it in Ephesians 6: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

So today, we offer a worship playlist to assist you in prayers for our nation, your community, your family, and whatever else is stirring in your heart and mind. As you listen, we hope you’ll take a prayer walk in your neighborhood, turn up the volume in the carpool line, cry out to God on your commute, or get off your recliner and hit your knees.

Yes, we pray “God, bless America.” But have you seen the sign someone made that says, “America Bless God?” This is my prayer for Election Day.
