Do
you trust God’s sovereignty?
For those who voted according to Judeo-Christian values, many of last week’s results were disappointing.
The heaviest defeat, of course, was the passage of Ohio’s Issue 1, which enshrines a so-called right to abortion up to birth in the state constitution.
In states such as Virginia and Kentucky, candidates on the liberal end of the spectrum won high-profile elections. Media attention on these results, however, overshadowed encouraging wins by conservatives in lesser-known elections, especially in races down ballot.
School board election results were mixed,
but we did see some significant victories that underscored how important it is
to be involved in your own district.
Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is an encouraging example. This Houston-area school district—one of the largest in Texas—elected conservative candidates to the majority on its board. 116,000 students will be affected, thanks to our collaboration with one of our partners!
In Loudoun County, Virginia, three candidates won who were rated on the conservative spectrum by iVoterGuide. Two of them defeated incumbents! And iVoterGuide users exceeded the winning margin for those three candidates. They did not gain a conservative majority on its nine-member school board, but this was not an expectation. It is a positive development for the district, which became infamous in 2021 for its transgender bathroom policies and adherence to Critical Race Theory.
Be on your guard against the temptation to quit, especially if you read the news a lot! Remember that the people opposing Judeo-Christian principles want you to give up. But staying home ensures defeat. For those of us who believe we must be good stewards of the blessings of liberty that God has given us, that is not an option.
As Judeo-Christian Voters, How Can We See This Through God’s Perspective?
At iVoterGuide, we live by the mantra of John Quincy Adams, who spent the last 17 years of his life in the House of Representatives fighting for the abolition of slavery. When asked why he continued despite his lack of successful results, Adams replied, “Duty is ours; results are God’s.”
In the Bible, Daniel, who was a prophet and government official, says of God:
“He changes times and seasons;
he removes kings and sets up kings;
he gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to those who have understanding . . .”
Daniel 2:21 (ESV)
Our new Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, reminded the House of Representatives of this great truth after he was recently elected. Johnson was mocked for saying it, but it’s true. God raises up leaders—both the good and the bad. And we are all accountable to Him.
Although we don’t deserve His grace, God is still working in America. Just take Johnson’s surprising election as Speaker of the House. How did we end up with a man of conservative principles and godly character? God raised him up.
God is sovereign, and He is still working. He is working all things for His glory (Romans 11:36) and for the good of those who love Him—who are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
What purpose can disappointments like last week’s election results serve? I don’t know all of God’s plan, but I know that God uses trials to teach us to persevere, to develop our faith and character, and to challenge us to not grow weary of doing good (Galatians 6:9).
What makes John Quincy Adam’s perspective so inspiring is that he died before slavery was abolished. He never got to see the full fruit of his work. But that didn’t matter. He wasn’t in control of the results. He was responsible for His duty. And so are we.
This is the mindset we at iVoterGuide are taking with us into 2024 as we continue to reach and equip millions of voters with the truth about their candidates. Voting is a God-given duty for us in America, and iVoterGuide is blessed to help you fulfill that duty by voting wisely. We don’t take this honor lightly.
Research is already underway for the first primaries of the year. Please keep our researchers and volunteer panelists in your prayers as they undertake this tremendous task. Your prayers and support mean so much as we equip voters like you to continue stewarding God’s gift of freedom for His glory.
Onward!
