There are different state statues and codes pertaining to tattoos, piercings, etc. When it comes to the federal government and crime, treason, piracy, and counterfeiting are listed as crimes under the US Constitution. I believe that when it comes to law, people should be free to live their lives as they see fit, as long as they don't use force or fraud against others. With freedom comes personal responsibility, which means that other people should not be forced to pay for others' personal choices. The problem isn't that these predictions were completely wrong, but that if "urgent political actions" had been taken, the lives of the American people would have been turned upside down with enormous costs to consumers.
