QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Agree
Reasonable guardrails are needed to ensure that abortion isn't used as contraception. It is also important to have some flexibility for extraneous circumstances, hence, from a public policy perspective, there needs to be nuance in order for proper healthcare to be administered without fear of prosecution for legitimate extraneous cases. That said, elective abortion should be forbidden beyond viability.
What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?
Schools should support students with resources for pregnancy and should not promote a fear of a life ruined due to a child. There are ample resources for not only mothers, but also fathers and understanding the rights, responsibilities, and joy of parenthood should be a part of what schools do, typically via school counselors, directly or in alliance with outside agencies an organizations.
ECONOMY
Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.
Agree
Student loans as currently structured have created a large financial burden on young people. There are structural issues both in favor of students, such as income based repayment, and against students, such as the inability to discharge student loan debt in bankruptcy. The easy access to student loan monies has also been a part of the force moving higher education cost at a rate far higher than inflation.
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
Government should fund K-12 public education as a foundation of our republic style of governance. Further, public education is imperative for societal sustainment and economic stability and growth. Public dollars spent for education is a benefit for everyone in the community.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
With regard to public schools, what does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
The separation of church and state simply means that a government agency cannot impose or endorse one religion over another. It does not mean that, in the case of schools, there cannot be school sponsored clubs or organizations around a religion, with a prominent example being the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This stance does not bar religion from the public space or government, but simply means that the government cannot prevent the practice of a religion within the law.
IMMIGRATION
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enhances the safety and security of communities by identifying and detaining illegal aliens.
Agree
ICE is an essential law enforcement agency. Illegal aliens put additional stress on our public services, including public schools, as our public services are bound to serve those here as citizens, legal immigrants, and illegal aliens. Removing illegal aliens increases the resources available for citizens and those here legally.
EDUCATION
Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Disagree
Abortion and gender-affirming care are strongly correlated with increased mental health issues and are usually detrimental to the individual's overall well being. Public schools should only use accredited hospitals as direct resource providers for health related matters.
Consequences for bad behavior create a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.
Strongly Agree
It is very important for there to be strong consequences for bad behavior, especially at the elementary level. Tolerating bad behavior or, worse, rewarding bad behavior will only encourage further behavior problems later in school and as an adult, leading to serious consequences and interaction with law enforcement. Schools must not only educate the basics, but also educate on being good citizens and persons.
Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.
Strongly Agree
It is important for public education to create a strong sense of national identity in order to avoid balkanization within our diverse society. Unity is found in realizing that we're all Americans first and foremost.
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Agree
Local control is very important for educational flexibility within each unique community. While certain minimum standards are also important in a top-down format, the method to reach these standards and beyond should be left to the localities.
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development
It is important to teach not only sex ed (anatomy, outcomes of sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, contraception, etc), but also sexual etiquette, that is proper courtship and manners between boys and girls. Children are exposed to many sources of media that distort proper interactions and can lead to improper behavior that can have serious consequences, especially for boys. Topics such as ballroom dance, table manners, and conversation skills should be part of the sex ed curriculum.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning
This question is a bit complex since there is a large difference between elementary priorities and high school priorities. Starting with the most foundational, reading is the most important component of academic education as everything else flows from this essential skill. Math is the second most important skill followed closely by science and engineering. The arts (music, theater, studio) is the next priority followed by history and civics. Information technology is next with physical fitness
Public schools should prioritize academic achievement and building character necessary to preserve American traditions and self-government.
Strongly Agree
Academic achievement standards must be sustained and not diluted for the sake of graduation rate. Lowering academic standards encourages bad behavior and leads to the perception of the public schools being for all intents and purposes nothing more than a babysitting service. Upholding both academic and character standards are important for the future of a republic based society.
School choice creates competition, and that competition will push public schools to improve their educational systems.
Agree
School choice has become more mainstream as public schools have continued to lower standards. We should embrace competition to improve public education and make public education the best choice parents can make for their children. Right now the home school movement has continued to gain traction and is more mainstream as parents view it as a more viable option for basic education than the public schools. We need to change that by getting better and improving perception of public education.
VALUES
Biological males should be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Disagree
Males should be absolutely banned from female athletics and female spaces.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian through and through. Our family attends service weekly in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and religious education is important to us. I support the Great Commission for the Church to evangelize those unfamiliar with or who have a perverted view of the Gospel. To this end we support the Lutheran Heritage Foundation which gets Bibles published in various languages and distributed around the world. As a public servant, it is important to separate Church life from public life in order to preserve the concept of separation church and state. While it is impossible to not operate within a Christian moral framework, it is important to not use office to outwardly evangelize.
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Agree
There should be some limits such as child endangerment or abuse, but overall I would agree that parents have a fundamental right to direct their child's well being. Children should be assessed by the state periodically to ensure their well being, which is done daily in the public schools.
I support the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that people should be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.
Agree
Simply pointing out that I strongly support this particular teaching of MLK, but I do not support some of his other teachings such as being a Marxist. The golden rule is what we should teach, treat others the way you want to be treated.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
Government has coopted the religious term "marriage." Government defines "civil unions" and can define these however it wishes.
Mental health conditions such as anorexia and gender dysphoria need to be treated, not affirmed.
Strongly Agree
Mental health condition should certainly be treated. Typical treatment for gender dysphoria is to do nothing and allow a child to mature.
School library books that have literary value, as determined by experts, should be exempt from obscenity laws.
Agree
Schools should be a place of free inquiry and guidance. It is not unreasonable to have some loose guidelines, but overall a freedom based approach should be taken toward age appropriate content availability in schools.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Photo identification verifying citizenship and legal jurisdiction are imperative for free and fair elections.

2ND AMENDMENT
Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.
Agree
There is nuance needed in this answer. Police officers are trained to shoot anyone with a weapon in a school shooting incident. Teachers could be mistaken for a suspect and fired upon by law enforcement.
