QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

There is no circumstance in which an elective abortion should be allowed. Life begins at conception, and to add any exception to this sacrifices the sanctity of life for mere convenience.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Disagree

We've seen the result of this in Canada, the UK, and elsewhere that has legalized euthanasia where governments are now pressuring people to end their own lives, even for economic issues. Life is sacred, and no one has the right to seek the assistance of others in their quest to end life, especially in the medical community where people take an oath to do no harm.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

Providing one penny of tax dollars to abortion mills renders the government, which is supposed to protect life, an accomplice to murder. Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be shut down, not propped up, by the government.

ECONOMY

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

No

Kentucky actually bans public investment in companies engaged in ESG practices. We need to be more aggressive in our enforcement of this ban. If we are investing tax dollars, the primary goal should be wise financial investment, as the government is a steward of our tax dollars. To invest in ESG is simply wasting tax dollars in order to serve a nonsense agenda that does not benefit Kentuckians.

What is your position on the minimum wage?

I'm against the minimum wage. Minimum wage laws keep people out of work if they cannot find an employer who will pay them to work, but not as much as the government demands they pay them. Large businesses can afford it. Small businesses cannot.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Property Rights are one of the pillars of prosperity. Without free enterprise, the ability to contract with others, we lose out on the division of labor, and the benefits arising therein. Without economic freedom, families become dependent upon the government to survive, which is a horrific position to be in. The writings of Ludwig von Mises in Human Action largely guide my views on the free market. It is absolutely essential.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

First of all, your property is your business. I have no right to compel you to serve me, especially if doing so would violate your moral and/or religious views. Second, the Supreme Court has essentially ruled on this already in 303 Creative v. Elenis. The First Amendment prohibits Government from compelling businesses or individuals to betray their values in the name of compelled service. I fully stand with the freedom of conscience and freedom of religion.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

Never. I have been a born again Christian from a young age, and I continued church attendance even during COVID. For doing so, I was threatened with prosecution, sued Governor Beshear for his ban on church, and I won. Roberts v. Neace, 958 F.3d 409 (6th Cir. 2020). I have also continuously fought for the religious liberty rights for others in my legal practice, and will continue to fight for religious liberty in the legislature.

HEALTHCARE

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

There is no circumstance in which the government, school, or an employer should be allowed to require vaccination, or any medical procedure. You own your body. You have the right to control your medical decisions, and no one can take that away.

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

C/D. Medicaid/Medicare need to remain in some form as there are people who genuinely need help and cannot work. But the Obamacare and Medicare Part D expansions were expansions of government that's ultimately driving up healthcare prices. We need to draw back government involvement in medicine if we want to lower prices, but we need to keep medicare available for the elderly and medicaid for the indigent who are genuinely not able to work.

NATIONAL SECURITY

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Israel has a right to exist and defend itself. I further support a strategic partnership with Israel to the extent it serves American interests. I do, however, take issue with foreign aid (this applies to all nations). And I believe that all American foreign relations should be examined through the lens of whether the relationship benefits Americans first and foremost. Israel's relationship with the US is a net gain, so it is important.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

I support building a wall, and believe that states should send their National Guard to the Border to assist Texas so long as the Biden administration refuses to do their duty and enforce our immigration laws. If your first action in America is breaking her laws, you should not be able to become part of this nation.

EDUCATION

I support a constitutional amendment that would allow Kentucky’s General Assembly to set up a school choice program to allow dollars to follow children to the school of their choice.

Strongly Agree

We should fund students, not systems. School choice is essential, especially in areas that have failing schools. Parents, not government, should be in charge of their children. I live in a very red district and I intend to promote the school choice constitutional amendment throughout my general election campaign, as I anticipate voters going beyond the candidates and actually voting on that Amendment will be essential to its success.

VALUES

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

My heart breaks for everyone who struggles with gender dysphoria. But we do not affirm falsehoods or any other mental illnesses in our society. To add gender identity to protected class status wis to affirm a falsehood, and I do not support deviating from the truth in our government.

Parental rights are a fundamental right, and parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.

Strongly Agree

Not only do we have more than a century of case law at the Supreme Court level affirming parental rights as fundamental, we have more than a millenium of objective proof that the nuclear family, in which parents are in charge of their children, backed by the church, is the single greatest means by which society can be organized. We need to restore Parents to their position of natural, God-given authority over their children.

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from harm, including from gender ideology and bodily mutilation.

Strongly Agree

I have been fighting to ban gender mutilation of children since 2019, and have been pushing to prevent gender and other woke ideology from infecting children's education ever since 2020 shined a spotlight on the disturbing content our children are being exposed to. I absolutely support protecting children from the false narrative of wokism and the attempts to mutilate their bodies in the pursuit of this twisted philosophy.

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Strongly Disagree

As I mentioned before, we should not affirm falsehoods. That's precisely what providing tax dollars to gender transition services would do. I am also of the opinion that gender transition procedures and treatments is, in every instance, medical malpractice and battery. People who seek these treatments, in my opinion, are often the victims of a society teaching them to affirm an illness rather than seek the truth. The medical community should not perform these services at all, with that said.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a born again Christian. I believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. I believe the scripture is the inspired word of God. I believe we are a fallen species and in need of a Savior; and that that Savior came to the world in the form of Jesus Christ. I believe Jesus walked the Earth, was crucified, and rose from the dead three days later so that we, human beings, may follow his path, and through Christ, be saved eternally. As for worldly matters, I believe the foundation of prosperity is Faith, Family, and Freedom. I believe we need limited government, with an absolute adherence to the US Constitution, in order for us to have a just society. I further believe that strong families and churches keep government small.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Agree

Obergefell was wrongly decided. The government institution of marriage, when defined in any way other than the way defined above, ultimately becomes a government encroachment on what is fundamentally a religious institution.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

It is not an inconvenience to get a state-issued photo ID. This is the bare minimum for making sure only legal citizens who are registered to vote are actually the only people voting.

States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.

Strongly Disagree

The Electoral College was an essential creation by the Founding Fathers to prevent the Republic from succumbing to the whims of the majority. We are a republic, not a democracy, and a national popular vote for the presidency would destroy the republic, and practically hand total control to California's voter turnout rate to decide the president. We must preserve the Electoral College.

EQUALITY

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

My sister was a student athlete from Elementary School through College, so this is personal to me. Men do not belong in girls' sports or girls' spaces. As I mentioned before, gender dysphoria is something that should be treated, not affirmed. This is especially so in the area prompted here. Sometimes, this isn't even someone with gender dysphoria, but a man seeking to exploit women by invading their spaces. It is indefensible to allow men in any of these spaces.

I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

Strongly Disagree

DEI is a lie. It judges people based on the color of their skin rather than their merit. I believe DEI programs should be banned, and held unconstitutional under the 14th Amendment Equal Protection Clause. DEI is just Affirmative Action after a rebranding. I support its total ban.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

America is not a racist country. It never has been. Thomas Jefferson even condemned the institution of slavery in his original draft of the Declaration of Independence. At base, CRT teaches people to hate America and offers no solution but destruction. It's an abominable proposition. I have taken Critical Theory courses in college, and I can say they are lies that children should not be exposed to (and college students should not be forced to take classes on).

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Fossil Fuels are easily the most reliable energy source. I support a free market approach allowing alternative energy sources, but any effort to debase the US from Fossil Fuels is nonsensical. Alex Epstein covers this in Fossil Future terrifically.

Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.

A and C. We are in an energy crisis largely because we have a federal government that buys the myth that climate change is an existential threat and uses regulation as a bludgeoning tool against workers and independence. I support natural beauty, but regulation is overwhelmingly not the pathway toward protecting it. It only lets foreign nations (who pollute far more than we do) control us through indirect means, costs jobs, and hurts America in the long run.

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

The role of government is to protect life, liberty, and property. When, as I have previously mentioned, humanity abandons our institutions of faith and family, it opens the door to the need for government to exceed those bounds, but when government does that, there are unforeseen consequences. We need strong families and strong churches promulgating our general welfare, culture, and upbringings, and a government protecting civil society from violations of life, liberty, and property.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

At base, I am a constitutional conservative that believes the government that governs best is the government that governs least. I believe we should never bear false witness, so my oath to the US and Kentucky Constitution is something that binds my policies where the only voting record I can morally have is a very conservative voting record.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Strongly Disagree

We need a well-funded police force. In fact, if government's role is simply the protection of life, liberty, and property, police are the entity best situated to protect those three interests. Community programs is so broad of a term and ultimately ripe for abuse, so I trust law enforcement to fulfill the role of government far more than any other program.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

None. All gun laws are infringements on the Second Amendment, and I have spent years fighting for the Second Amendment, whether that be through the National Association for Gun Rights or facilitating Second Amendment Sanctuary County Ordinances in KY. Anyone who would follow gun laws are not the people we need to worry about, and the people about whom we should worry will never follow a gun law.

Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.

Strongly Agree

The best way to stop a shooter is an immediate, forceful response. Almost all mass shootings happen in gun free zones. Trained faculty should be able to choose whether they carry at school. If we let teachers carry, perhaps these monsters doing shootings would think twice about harming kids.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Do you support the expansion of gambling in Kentucky?

No

I supported Steve Doan's bill he introduced in light of the Gray Machine battle. I am against predatory gambling practices, which is frankly what we see from the Churchill Downs monopoly. I am concerned about bans as it takes industry underground, making it more dangerous. But Doan's regulation was an option.
