QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including funds for “family planning,” contraception, or abortion counseling).

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

Any time the Mother's life is determined to be in grave danger. Otherwise: when the doctor, mother, and father (unless dead or unreachable) all consent to the abortion, and if before the 16th week of pregnancy, after which time a fetus begins reacting to light and sound, becoming sentient. (I apologize for claiming otherwise two years ago).

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Agree

I still support assisted suicide laws, two years later. Nevertheless, the Declaration of Independence is, to my mind, the ultimate law of the land; it insists that "Life" is one of the rights most dear, and I agree.

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Choose not to answer

Existing Federal laws that prohibit the interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs should be enforced.

Strongly Agree

ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

There ought not to be any minimum wage limitations. First, however, the "plutocracy," a de facto relationship between wealthy interests and the government, needs to be vanquished. Thereafter, states can publish a suggestive living wage number yearly.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are more than a recipe for productivity; they are fundamental to human survival and contentment because they are so deeply ingrained in the way people exhibit responsibility and outlook.

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

I love this new question; it must be a sign of the times that this is more explicitly libertarian, as if time is running out to do something about government waste before its bloat has dire consequences. Even NC Government is bloated: (1) reduce Medicaid funding, (2) eliminate PR and marketing roles in NC Education, (3) eliminate assistant principal and other administrative education roles, (4) vastly shrink the NC Department of Commerce, (5) eliminate the Governor's Education Cabinet.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

I agree with what Thomas Jefferson initially said on the matter in 1801: the First Amendment prevents favoritism of a religion or religious sect (such as in public school) and must do what it can to acknowledge (not grant) the rights of all people to exercise religious living as they see fit, even if that means allowing purchase of hard liquor on a Sabbath day, as the legislature "shall make no laws" restricting such things. President Jefferson believed this was supremely fair to all religions.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

Discrimination based solely on traits a person has had since birth is often cruel and unusual, at least in the case of ethnicity, but even this deserves carve-out exceptions such as doctors who have taken the Hippocratic Oath. Therefore, there is almost no situation that can justify requiring someone to provide services in violation of stated moral or religious beliefs.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

My view is once again a less extreme form of (D). Medicare should be sunset for anyone not yet drawing from it and replaced with something token. Medicaid should be gradually defunded until it is a skeleton of its former self and remain in that form for emergencies. As a state lawmaker, I support deregulation and free market health care.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Disagree

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Choose not to answer

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

I choose not to answer because I would have no control over this as a State House lawmaker, and my opinion is therefore not applicable.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Agree

Many of my views can be summarized by my fondness for (significant but not absolute) decentralization, which I call "Bounded Localism." I believe sanctuary towns and cities ought to be allowed to exist within a framework of limitations, such as not conflicting with federal supremacy. I will note the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution. Undocumented persons have certain rights regardless of whether voters determine they need to be documented, deported, or neither.

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Strongly Agree

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Agree

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Agree

To restate what I wrote two years ago: "Perhaps at the age of 13 and after, teenagers should receive health diagnoses regardless of parental consent, as it is merely information. Non-life-threatening treatment must have the consent of a parent or guardian. I believe there should be a high amount of legal nuance to this to reflect that children grow into adults gradually as they age." Education control, meanwhile, is the right of parents, as you say.

Attempts to transition a child to the opposite sex are harmful to that child and should be prohibited.

Agree

I think a fair analogy for this is having four fingers of the same hand removed in surgery needlessly. This would make daily life in society more difficult. That is a lifelong harm that affects others mildly. This is because gender dysphoria is a mental illness and not a bodily illness. Children below the age of 15-and-a-third are too young to be permitted self-harm in that regard, even though the harm is abstract by nature.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Disagree

I said it best two years ago: I have no problem with religions defining what a holy marriage is. The government can bind people together in unions akin to marriage and call it a marriage with the implication that it is not a holy marriage, merely a secular imitation of the concept with fewer rules. Thus, Government can marry people but not claim any sort of God-ordaining in the process. This is like how changing your name does not need to be ordained by God to happen legally.

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Agree

Although it may sound counterintuitive, legalizing gambling is neutral to addiction results and instead makes gambling less anti-consumer due to the greater competition. Furthermore, life is a test from the perspective of Christianity. We were given free will as a test of whether or not we would voluntarily control ourselves (with the influence of community members, as no person is meant to be an island). Self-control is ultimately the responsibility of the autonomous individual.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I agree with most everything the Free Will Baptists believe, even the washing of each other's feet, which Jesus suggested that we do (John 13:14). I also lean towards being an American Transcendentalist these days, seeing spiritual value in first-hand experiences in the world God made, which points back to God, as the Apostle Paul explained to us. I go to church most weeks and to a bible study of peers my age most weeks also. I tenderly hope my running for office glorifies God more than it neglects his holy mission. I deliberately go out of my way to contrast myself with my unrepentant, incumbent opponent, a lesbian woman who is coldly unloving towards constituents. She avoids them at all costs.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

Voting is an arbitrary execution of governmental design and a privilege. Voting is not a birthright, but it is sacred, and thus identity fraud is unjust.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

Even though I am against equity, I nevertheless believe in fair treatment of all people, and that includes dishing out empathy and sympathy to those who lack generational wealth. Thus, even though I wish for lower taxes, I consider inheritance taxation to be more ethical than most types, because generational wealth is among the least defensible causes of wealth inequality.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

I would allow exceptions for informal sports clubs so long as everyone consents. This is, in essence, agreeing to convert to a co-ed sports activity, and record-setting should reflect the co-ed nature.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Agree

Climate change is real, is partially man-made, is malleable, but is not urgent, nor does the government have absolute power to address it simply because some view it as an emergency. It is good that the United States does more than its fair share in this time while we wait for India and China to go through the growing pains of being developing countries, and I am glad much of that action is marketplace cultural pressure with innovative advancements, and not government policy.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

I am glad you asked! I heard on the grapevine just the other day that Thorium nuclear power is a new up-and-coming science to keep our eyes on. Nuclear power, solar power, hydroelectric power, oil, and gas are great. Coal, not so much.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Lean Conservative

I don’t fit neatly on the modern Conservative–Liberal spectrum, but if I am honest, I have watched the dysfunction in our country grow more intense, and that makes me yearn for some of the culture of yesteryear. Time has made me appreciate the need to preserve NC culture; I no longer oppose having an official state cookie, for example.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

There is not one single goal but multiple: (1) keep dangerous people away from the public, upstanding folks; (2) punish what ought to be the core unacceptable vices: stealing, murdering, slandering/ lying in high-stakes situations, resisting law enforcement for shallow reasons, harming, raping, violating privacy; (This is only the beginning of morality, as people ought to continue their moral refinement beyond limiting themselves in these ways); (3) Rehabilitation of the willing.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Disagree

This is almost entirely the responsibility of parents and guardians, albeit sexual predators and pedophiles are serious criminals who need to be hunted by the law. I do not support legal internet ID requirements because that violates the privacy of adults in a very dangerous way. There are no shortcuts, and you cannot keep your cake and eat it too: either the parents are responsible owners of their children, or they aren't.

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Neutral

The Declaration of Independence followed by the Constitutions are the supreme laws of the land, so if (and that is a big if) Sharia Law is unconstitutional, it should be struck down. Ours is a liberty republic now and forever, but if a community wants to informally and voluntarily agree to extra rules, more power to them. Christians, likewise, may sign legal contracts with each other if they please.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Gun owners must be required to get safety certified by a licensed group one time if they own a gun or purchase their first gun, and this requirement does not in any way prevent the purchase of the gun, even if they refuse to undergo this safety training, which has the repercussions of a heavy fine instead. Otherwise, they may own and carry military-grade weaponry for all I care.
