QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

None in an ideal world. I will support any bill that reduces abortions, including ones with exceptions for life of the mother, and rape. I would support a heartbeat bill. I would support an abolition bill. The truly defenseless and innocent victim is the unborn child. Sometimes there are two victims, or more.

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Strongly Agree

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Disagree

As a physician, I support hospice care, “comfort care“, and the patients right to choose proven or unproven therapies and to refuse, or withdraw from, treatment.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Pure capitalism is the best economic system for humans. It is a system of free people dealing freely, and is the economic system that increases prosperity for all. We do not have that. We have cronyism. Regulatory agencies are often captured by the industries they regulate. The income tax system, as it exists in the United States, particularly at the federal level, is a game for lobbyists to channel greater wealth to the few, and extracting that wealth largely from the working middle class.

What is your position on the minimum wage?

I believe a minimum wage law is counterproductive to efficient capitalism. However, I recognize also the psychopathy of particularly large corporations. There are so many other wrongs, eliminating minimum wage laws would not be a priority for me.

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

No

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

None. The rare exception is a bizarre “Church“ that is involved in criminal activities.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

Should religious schools which accept state funds be allowed to only admit families and students who agree to adhere to their statement of faith?

Yes

Government has a mockery of education, and now tends to support indoctrination. School choice programs should be constructed with wide latitude in allowing parents to choose who and how their children will be educated. In these programs, more support needs to be there for homeschoolers, who sacrifice income and incur expenses as well.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

The perfect answer is D. C is satisfactory, noting the disruption caused by ripping away Medicare and Medicaid may be devastating. Our healthcare system is broken, and it is broken largely by the vast sums of money that flow, mostly to large healthcare systems, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies. An Australian type system where there is a basic healthcare for all, and one can pay extra for frills may be all right. But we do have a mess. The way out is difficult.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

None. As a physician and a human being, the right answer is that, in a free America, all should have total sovereignty over one’s individual body. No entity should be allowed authority to compel any medical intervention.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

As one with a firm and growing biblical understanding and worldview, I have come to believe we must stand with Israel. The births of our nation and theirs are intertwined in the Judeo-Christian story. I believe the promise that those who befriend Israel will prosper and the enemies of Israel will fail. but, it is not because of the promise of prosperity, but, because it is the right thing to do. Stand with the nation of Israel.

EDUCATION

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Strongly Agree

VALUES

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Strongly Disagree

A few years ago, I would say abortion was the defining moral issue of our time. It has been joined by this gender lunacy. Although I know there are secular parents deranged enough to be convinced that this is something desirable, I cannot imagine the moral bankruptcy of a fellow surgeon who would proceed with this mutilation of children. Again, the amoral interest of the pharmaceutical profiteers is again at work because of the massive dollars necessary to thwart normal biology for a lifetime.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent unless an emergency situation arises risking immediate death.

Strongly Agree

I would favor legislation to prohibit healthcare systems from withholding information from parents. In NC, I know that at least Atrium Health has announced a policy to not allow parents to see medical records of their children as young as 12.

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.

Strongly Agree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Agree

Well put. Marriage is not a man-made institution.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in the God of the Bible, the virgin birth of my savior, Jesus Christ, His bodily resurrection, and my place with my Lord in eternity in heaven. I believe in the total depravity of man. I believe our Creator endowed us with free will. I’ve come to believe in a young earth, and in the inerrancy of scripture. Though all of my questions have not been answered, He will eventually answer them all. I am so blessed to know that my entire family, meaning my wife and I and our children and maturing grandchildren, share these beliefs. I believe denominations are of man and imperfect. Trusting Christ as my savior is the most important decision of my life on this good earth.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

Voting absentee by mail ballot should be limited to those meeting at least one of the following criteria: 1) 65 years of age or older on Election Day, 2) sick or disabled, 3) expecting to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day, or 4) confirmed to be absent from the county of registration during voting.

Agree

Paper ballots, single day voting. Minimal absentee ballots. The limitations above are good ones.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

As a nation, we have made great strides, and race is not now a barrier to prosperity. There are the evil forces which stoke racism at every opportunity that are responsible for a lot of misery and division in this country. But, when I am in a room with black and brown and yellow and white people, all united around common set of Christian conservative values, the hugs and back slaps and joy on faces, gives me hope.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.

I land at B in a few instances, but don’t understand “stricter“ (than what?). Many big corporations are abusive of the environment, and the climate change narrative is a hoax. There is a sensible middle ground here, and it is not windmills and solar farms. There may be more environmentally, and humanly, friendly ways to grow crops and livestock. I am certain that God gave us all this natural beauty to perceive as testimony to his majesty. And we should be good stewards. And CO2 is plant food.

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

To protect the God-given inalienable rights of men be they threatened by fellow constituents or outside forces. To establish order according to the consent of the government, regarding whatever area is of interest. For example, a community may decide to have private roads, but at a point that becomes a bit impractical, and therefore reasonable to turn that over to a government, based on the principal of consent of the governed.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Strongly Disagree

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I think it is totally reasonable to not allow those convicted of felonies, particularly violent felonies, to own guns. Those adjudicated as mentally incompetent should also not own guns. I do not think there is a place for individual ownership of weapons of mass destruction. In general, I am opposed to regulation much beyond these exceptions. I'm with Mark Robinson on this one (too!).
