QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Strongly Disagree
Our tax dollars should not be funding Planned Parenthood or any organization that chooses to end a human life. The parents/guardians are responsible instructing their children in all aspects of their personal lives. The schools should be responsible for instruction in academic subjects. No service or organization that counters the rights of parents/guardians should be permitted at the schools.
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Absolutely!
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.
Strongly Agree
This is our First Amendment right--Freedom of Speech, which is granted to every U.S. citizen.
School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
God, through His written Word--the Bible, has defined marriage as only the union of one man and one woman. School districts have no right to discriminate against individuals, organizations, or small businesses who believe and act based on the Biblical definition of "marriage".
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.
Strongly Disagree
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
The less government funding, the better. When an institution receives federal dollars, there are always strings attached to the money. This is usually not in the best interest of the taxpayers, students, etc.
EDUCATION
What is the function of the local school board?
The school board serves to advocate for educational excellence. The roles and responsibilities include (1a) setting high expectations for student learning using district vision and goals, (1b) monitoring established student learning goals and progress toward achieving those goals during various points throughout the school year, (3) adopting policies that provide a framework for how the district will operate and function, (4) hiring and evaluating the superintendent, (5) establishing a direction for the district, (6) adopting a budget and setting a tax rate for the district, (7) working to build public support and understanding of public education, and (8) providing advocacy for a high quality public school system.
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
The school board should ultimately have the authority to set curriculum and determine instructional resources used in those curricula.
When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?
Parents should not be restricted from speaking at any school board meeting. They should always be able to address their concerns. It is the board's responsibility and obligation to provide a sufficient amount of time to hear parents voice their concerns. Further, it is the board's responsibility to follow-up on parental concerns in a timely manner.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning
Language Arts (to include reading comprehension and writing), Mathematics, American History (factual), Science (factual, including Intelligent Design), Physical Fitness (and other aspects of Physical Education), Art & Music, Foreign Language, Vocational/Trade Learning, Information Technology (limited).
Which more closely matches your view of America's founding principles? A) Liberty and equality. B) Slavery and racism.
(A.) Liberty and equality. "We the People" (U.S. citizens) are granted Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness by our U.S. Constitution.
What does "equity in education" mean to you?
Schools and the government are using the term "equity" in place of "equality" nowadays. To me, "equity in education" refers to the unequal treatment of students in order that all students will end up at the same outcome. This is detrimental because students should be able to strive to do their best and perform at the highest level they can. However, equity in education means that some students have to give up opportunities (i.e., to take AP courses) because all students will not qualify. Equity results in loss of student opportunities regardless of student ability. It is divisive and lowers the academic performance standard of all students. It provides no motivation or incentive for students to strive to do the best they can. Equity is a form of Marxist socialism--keeping all students at the same performance level. We do not need to fall into this trap.
Written parental consent (opt-in) must be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL).
Strongly Agree
Although I strongly agree, CSE and SEL (and courses with similar content) should NOT be taught in the public schools. Schools need to focus their time on improving academic instruction and academic performance.
The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.
Strongly Agree
Any federal dollars come with strings attached and allow for student information to be reported and tracked at the federal level whether parents/guardians want their sons' and/or daughters' information shared or not.
Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.
Strongly Agree
Absolutely!
School boards are accountable to parents and taxpayers.
Strongly Agree
If school boards are not accountable to parents and taxpayers at present, they need to be.
Do you believe students should have access to materials that graphically depict and describe sexual acts?
No
Schools are constantly making this content accessible not only in their libraries, but in the classrooms as well. In Texas, there are Texas Penal Codes regarding "harmful" and "obscene" content, yet some school boards choose to keep the books and instructional classroom materials available. The State of Texas needs to follow through on ensuring that the school board, teachers, librarians, and staff are held liable and that negative consequences for violations of the codes are put into place.
All print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review.
Strongly Agree
As taxpayers, all curriculum, instructional, and library holdings should easily be accessible to the public for review.
2ND AMENDMENT
Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.
Strongly Agree
If teachers have had appropriate training verified through a particular gun safety and accuracy safety program or comparable program, and they are willing to assume the responsibility that comes with owning and operating a gun (in challenging situations) they should be allowed to carry.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?
Under no circumstances should schools be allowed to require vaccinations. Mandates are not law, and we've seen the disastrous consequences resulting from the covid shots.
I support mask mandates.
Strongly Disagree
Masks are totally ineffective and do more damage to the person wearing the mask (breathing in too much carbon dioxide...). Masks do nothing "to prevent the spread".
All official open meetings should be live streamed, recorded, and have transcripts available online for public access.
Strongly Agree
Absolutely! Transparency and accountability are what is needed.
All votes should be roll call votes and recorded in meeting minutes.
Strongly Agree
All votes should be roll call votes and recorded in meeting minutes to hold candidates accountable who are elected to office; be it as a school board member, or legislator, etc. Elected officials need to be held accountable for every vote taken. This makes it very easy to determine if the elected official is voting according to his/her constituents desires or his/her own agenda.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
A candidate's personal moral values are relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.
Strongly Agree
Personal moral values speak to the character of the candidate, which should be important indicator in determining candidacy to hold any elective office.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
My responses to this questionnaire verify that I am "very conservative".
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
CCDF-USA ISD School Board Candidate Forum, held on 2/28/2023 in Carrollton, TX. To date, no additional interviews and/or media reports have been conducted that can verify that I am "very conservative". I have upcoming scheduled forums, interviews, and I anticipate there will be media reports as well.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am a Christian Conservative. I am not a politician, and never sought to become one. God has called me to run."...for such a time as this" (Esther 4:13-14). I am a proud mother of three and a grandmother of 4 wonderful grandchildren (with another grandson soon on the way). I am a retired professional educator of 40 years with exemplary credentials. I've attended school board meetings since Spring 2022 on a consistent basis. I have genuine concern for our children who now attend public schools and their future. Education is on the precipice, not only in Denton ISD, but in public school systems nation-wide. We must apply the brakes now and change our current course, or we will free-fall to a point of no return. The Denton ISD Board needs an independent conservative voice and advocate for children, families, and a quality education. I am willing to "stand in the gap" and take appropriate action for the well-being of our children and schools. Please join me in this endeavor by voting for Dr. Terry A. Senne for Denton ISD Board of Trustees - Place 6. Thank you!
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a born-again Christian. I believe all Scripture in the Bible is God-breathed and true. I look at our world through a Biblical perspective. I trust in God alone. My morals and values are based on God's commandments and Scripture. I believe you can only gain eternal life with God through faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer. There is no other way.
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Strongly Disagree
I am deeply saddened that this topic even needs to be discussed. God made humans in His image. He made them male and female. There are no other genders. Public middle school, high school, and college students who desire to be athletes cannot choose to identify themselves except by their God-given biological sex. Public school institutions and athletic organizations (like the NCAA) that allow otherwise, set themselves up for abominable consequences and outcomes.
No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.
Strongly Agree
Again, any indoctrination of students including the sexual transitioning of a student, use of alternative names/pronouns, etc. is the responsibility of parents/guardians. The schools need to educate students in academic subjects and stay in their own lane. They are not to be a one-stop shop.
No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.
Strongly Agree
Healthcare is not a responsibility of a school, and therefore, should not be offered in a school setting. No healthcare diagnosis or treatment should be given to a child without parental written consent. This also should apply to hospitals, doctors, public health organizations, psychologists, sociologists, etc.
Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
The parents/guardians of the child are responsible for teaching sexual education to the child. The appropriate age for when it should be taught is when the parents/guardians believe their child is developmentally ready to receive that instruction.
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex
I do NOT support the teaching of Sex Education in the schools.
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
We need to re-establish the Judeo-Christian values as a framework of morality in our schools once again, and elsewhere.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
All US citizens have some form of a photo identification. There is no excuse for not having a photo ID.
