RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
The Office of Secretary of State is a constitutional office under the Minnesota State Constitution. The Secretary is not a policy maker though the Secretary certainly has influence over election and other policy areas such as business filings. The Secretary does have rulemaking authority but is supposed to be bound by state statute when writing those rules. If elected, I will review election rules to be certain they are in harmony with state statute. There are many policy areas in the iVoter Guide that the Secretary has no authority over and as such are not answered here, though I am happy to share my Christian faith, Judeo-Christian worldview, and a statement on religious liberty with voters. It is an excellent questionnaire for lawmakers.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Minnesota does balance its budget (versus the federal government). But the state spends far too much and does not spend it well; and has a large unfunded public pension liability (which is off the books) and too high a tax burden.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that there is no pandemic exception to the Constitution. The First Amendment states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." And the Minnesota Constitution (Sect. 16) is also clear: "The right of every man to worship God according to the dictates of his own conscience shall never be infringed;...nor shall any control of or interference with the rights of conscience be permitted, or any preference be given by law to any religious establishment or mode of worship...." The Executive Council in Minnesota, which includes the Secretary of State Steve Simon, voted repeatedly to shut down our churches and small businesses, to shut down our employers, while allowing big box stores and other so-called "essential businesses" to remain open. This draconian approach, which imposed profound harm on citizens both emotionally and financially, was found to be unconstitutional. If elected, I will faithfully protect the Constitutional freedoms of Minnesotans, which includes the freedom of worship and the freedom to make a living.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
This common sense measure is supported by most Americans and used by almost all Western nations in Europe. Voter identification increases voter turnout among all voters, including minority communities that the left claims are "suppressed" by having to show ID at the polls. It gives voters, no matter their background, more confidence that only eligible voters are casting ballots at the polls.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
Minnesota election laws and operations are long overdue for reform and upgrades. Please refer to Kim's website for some of her legislative priorities (this is not a complete list): https://www.kimsos.com/issues/

ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
The Minnesota Constitution sums it up nicely: Preamble We, the people of the state of Minnesota, grateful to God for our civil and religious liberty, and desiring to perpetuate its blessings and secure the same to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution ARTICLE I BILL OF RIGHTS Section 1. Object of government. Government is instituted for the security, benefit and protection of the people, in whom all political power is inherent, together with the right to alter, modify or reform government whenever required by the public good. Sec. 2. Rights and privileges. No member of this state shall be disfranchised or deprived of any of the rights or privileges secured to any citizen thereof, unless by the law of the land or the judgment of his peers. There shall be neither slavery nor involuntary servitude in the state otherwise than as punishment for a crime of which the party has been convicted.
