QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

The decision to have an elective abortion should rest with the individual and their healthcare provider, without government interference. Early-stage elective abortions should be allowed, with later-stage procedures allowed when necessary for maternal health, severe fetal anomalies, or other exceptional circumstances. Comprehensive access to reproductive healthcare and education is essential.

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Agree

I question the need for reporting as labeled here. Healthcare is between a patient and their provider

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Neutral

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Agree

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What is your position on the minimum wage?

While I believe in the free market, I recognize the need for balance. A minimum wage ensures fair pay, but it must be set thoughtfully to avoid burdening businesses. We need policies that support both workers' livelihoods and economic growth.

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

Yes

ESG ratings can guide responsible investment, balancing financial returns with positive environmental and social impacts. However, decisions should also consider financial viability to ensure the best outcomes for public funds.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

There are no circumstances where the government can close a church

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Disagree

Absolutely not. Individuals and businesses should reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. Forcing them to act against their moral or religious beliefs infringes on personal freedom and autonomy. However, it's also crucial to balance this with anti-discrimination principles to ensure fair treatment for all.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

A combination of B and C. Government-funded healthcare should be available for those who want it, alongside private options. Medicaid and Medicare should remain. However, regulations around private healthcare insurance need to be lessened. Purely taxpayer-funded healthcare is not viable without heavy taxation and can suffer from inefficiencies.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

These should be required only in extreme cases when public risk is high, the vaccine is thoroughly tested and approved, drug companies are liable for issues, and it effectively addresses the threat, such as smallpox.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Agree

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

The relationship between the U.S. and any country, including Israel, should be based on shared beliefs and mutual goals that promote global harmony and stability. While traditional views emphasize strategic, economic, and historical ties, it's crucial that these relationships also reflect a commitment to human rights and democratic principles. Moving forward, our alliances should be founded on common values that foster peace and cooperation globally.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Disagree

No. What are we protecting against? Instead of focusing on physical barriers, we should provide legal avenues for immigration. This approach would significantly reduce illegal immigration by allowing people to enter the U.S. lawfully and contribute to our society.

EDUCATION

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Neutral

My wife and I homeschool our children due to the limitations of the public school system in tailoring programs to individual learning styles and social needs. From this standpoint, I support funding education in a way that allows parents to choose the best option for their child. However, it's important to ensure that such programs do not diminish educational opportunities for those who can only afford public school, maintaining a high standard of education for all.

VALUES

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.

Strongly Disagree

Children should be protected from abuse. Gender identity and education about bodies and diverse ways of expressing love are healthy and not "grooming." As "bodily mutilation" usually refers to sex reassignment surgery, these major elective surgeries should be approached with caution and, except for life-threatening emergencies, should wait until the child is of legal age. At that point, they should be fully supported in their decisions.

Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.

Neutral

Parents generally should have the right to make decisions for their minor children, encompassing education, health care, and general welfare. However, this right should be balanced with the child's best interests, particularly in cases where parental decisions might harm the child or infringe on their rights and well-being

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Neutral

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Disagree

Marriage is a personal commitment between individuals that neither government nor religious organizations should be involved in without prior consent.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

My spiritual beliefs are deeply personal and intricate, reflecting a journey of self-discovery and understanding. I believe that spirituality is a private matter, much like how Jesus emphasized the importance of private worship. While I hold my beliefs closely, I value respect, compassion, and integrity in all aspects of life. These values guide my actions and decisions, ensuring that I serve the community with honesty and dedication.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Neutral

Upon registering to vote, individuals should have their government photo ID validated, along with their citizenship. After that, voting via mail or ballot boxes should be allowed, involving the confirmation of the signature on the ballot, as well as other safeguards such as ensuring no duplicate votes are counted. Any discrepancies can be addressed as needed, ensuring both security and accessibility in the voting process.

States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.

Neutral

The NPVIC is designed to make every vote count equally in presidential elections, potentially increasing fairness and voter engagement. However, it faces significant legal and practical challenges, and its impact on the balance of power among states is a point of contention. It's essential to continue researching and considering multiple perspectives before forming a definitive opinion.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Yes, racism is a threat to domestic security in the United States. The rise of racially motivated violence and the ongoing debates about the existence and extent of racism contribute to social division and unrest. Racially motivated hate crimes and extremist groups pose direct threats to the safety and security of various communities. Addressing these issues is crucial to fostering a more inclusive and secure society for all.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Neutral

This is a complex issue. Historically, racism was evident when the United States was founded, as seen in the Constitution and early laws. Significant advancements in civil rights and equality have been made since then. However, racism has not been eradicated, and some institutions still exhibit racial biases. It's important to recognize these issues and work towards addressing and correcting them to ensure fairness and equality for all.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Neutral

This is a complex issue that requires thoughtful consideration, and there isn't nearly enough space here to adequately answer here. However, in general, transgender individuals who identify and live as women should be allowed in women's sports, with clear guidelines. Identifying as a woman isn't enough; commitment to living as a woman must be evident. Discussions should focus on fairness, inclusion, and respect for all involved.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.

All of the above. Stricter environmental laws can impact jobs and the economy (A), but they are often worth the cost to protect the environment (B). Such laws can also affect U.S. energy independence and the development of reliable electricity sources (C). However, climate change is a pressing issue that demands urgent policy action (D). Balancing these factors is crucial for sustainable and realistic solutions.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Nuclear fission is currently our best option for the short term. It reduces fossil fuel consumption and is much safer than it once was. It also provides time to develop better alternatives, such as advancements in fusion power reactors.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

In 1990, I faced a firearms possession charge, and in 1991, a domestic assault charge, which was reduced to simple assault. The latter incident arose during a tumultuous period of separation from my then-wife. She had taken my wallet, and in retrieving it, there was a physical altercation. However, she later admitted that someone else had caused her injury. These experiences have taught me valuable lessons in conflict resolution and personal growth.

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

The primary purpose of government in a libertarian framework is to protect individual rights and liberties while minimizing interference. It should enforce contracts, protect against force and fraud, and maintain a legal system upholding property rights and the rule of law. Government's role is limited to providing essential public goods like defense, police, and courts, allowing maximum individual freedom.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

None of these describe me very well - I disagree with the idea in general that one can only be conservative or liberal.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Neutral

Support for reallocating funds from police departments to community programs can be context-dependent. While it holds potential benefits, such decisions should be carefully balanced with each community's specific needs. In certain cases, it may not be advisable as it could inadvertently harm public safety. Emphasizing community programs for public safety is important, yet ensuring an adequate police force remains essential for protecting our communities and loved ones.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

To safeguard public safety while respecting Second Amendment rights, implementing background checks is crucial to prevent those with violent histories or active warrants from obtaining firearms. However, further gun restrictions have shown limited effectiveness in achieving their intended goals. Instead, focusing on evidence-based strategies to address root causes of gun violence is imperative.

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
