QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Physical life of the mother
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Strongly Agree
The current laws of abortion should also apply, accessibility should be restricted to medical providers and administered under the only exemptions for abortion (life of mother)
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Disagree
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
Churches, mosques, etc... Only in cases where there are credible threats of violence, and only for the time to remove threats.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise, a privately owned company should be able to conduct its business as it chooses in a lawful manner. There should be no external requirements to accommodate services that violate their core values.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes, we were there when Israel came into existence. Without external logistical support, Israel could not sustain itself. The USA went to WWII in part to free people from tyranny.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
C
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
If the nature of the role of work requires it (ie. anthrax vaccination for military serving in Korea or Middle East where risk is higher). These circumstances should be rare and have a risk-based methodology applied.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What is your position on the minimum wage?
There should not be an arbitrary wage minimum. This may have the unintended consequences of negatively affecting small businesses or implementing "kiosks" to replace employees.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
ESG has been weaponized to drive social changes in business. There is no place for this in a free economy.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
It should be one of the top priorities to secure the border to prevent and reduce the amount of crime in the USA.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Disagree
This is a two-edged sword. While I would want to support Christian based schools, I wouldn't want to have government funding for private schools with curriculum I may have a moral objection to. You cannot have it both ways.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Follow the 2nd Amendment as a guideline. There are some crimes where a person may forfeit their rights to have guns, but in general, there should be very few restrictions in public, non-secure areas.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
As long as they are competent in using firearms, have been vetted, concealed carry, and known to law enforcement who may respond to an event.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
no
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
no
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
I generally believe in a small federal government with limited powers (as defined by the 10th Amendment). Government should be decentralized to the extent possible, with powers to the most local political subdivisions possible. Government should aid its citizens, not hinder them, protect them, but not nanny them.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Strongly Agree
Few exemptions, IE, cannot let a child go through gender reassignment. I believe that it is the parent’s responsibility to train up their child in moral aspects. This is an ethical issue that each parent must decide on how to proceed, and it is not appropriate for schools to teach this. Education is teaching a person HOW to think, not WHAT to think.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian and have been raised in this faith my whole life, active in my church and raise my children in our faith. I stumble, I fail, I receive forgiveness, and strive to improve. I view my legislative responsibilities through the lens of my Christian values and personal integrity. In doing so I strive to be a Servant-Leader to others through my spiritual gifts given to me by God.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Our state (ND) requires photo ID
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Neutral
I have no idea what this is.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes, from all sides of the issues. In recent history, the BLM race riots was indeed a domestic threat to US security, causing chaos, damage, and injuries all over the USA. Likewise, organizations who practice white supremacy are an equal threat to US domestic security. Most races have ownership in the problems as well as the solutions to racism.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
C. As a professional in the energy industry, I have witnessed firsthand the 180-degree changes in environmental policies between administrations, the latter making us a weaker and more energy dependent nation.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Coal and natural gas.
