QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
I am a founding board member, for 20 years, of the Houston Coalition for Life, which provides several mobile crisis pregnancy centers around the Houston area. They park in front of abortion facilities and provide free preganancy tests, ultrasounds, counseling and maternal assistance. My faith calls upon me to be strongly pro-life.
What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?
A minimal role. Be compassionate and supportive but refer them to a crisis pregnancy center where they can see an ultrasound of their baby. Stronly encourage them to discuss it with their parents.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Teachers should be required to refer to students by pronouns which are misaligned with their gender at birth even if it would violate the teacher's moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
With my leadership, Katy ISD approved, in August 2023, a "gender policy" which prohibits staff from asking students about their preferred pronoun. If a student asks to change their pronoun or a name which is inconsistent with their bilogical sex, parental approval must be obtained. Even in that case, a teacher is not required to use the pronouns if they're not comfortable doing so. The teacher's First Amemdment right is protected. I think this policy has been copied by other school districts.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
I'm not in favor of cradle to grave funding of education. I'm not in favor of government funding of Pre-K, except with certain exceptions such as economicaly disadvantaged and early childhood disabilities. By definition, public education in K-12 requires assistance from the state to fund the contruction of schools and to pay for teacher and staff salaries and other expenses. Everyone has a right to a free, public education. The focus should be on preparing students for the future.
EDUCATION
Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Strongly Disagree
Consistent discipline creates a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.
Strongly Agree
I agree. Teachers need to be supported by their campus leadership. We need to ensure a safe environment is provided for students and teachers. Discipline issues are a big factor in teachers leaving the profession.
Do you believe print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school?
Yes
Yes. Transparency. Tax payers need to know what they are paying for.
Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.
Strongly Agree
I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Strongly Disagree
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning
Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, American History, Civics, Art & Music, Physical Fitness, Information Technology, Foreign Language, Vocational Learning and Personal Finances.
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child instead of the bureaucracy, through a program which allows parents the freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Neutral
My role as a Trustee is to to advocate for my school district and make it the best it can be. It's not my role to enter into the school choice debate, but to manage the resources we have in our district to the benefit of our students, parents and tax payers.
Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?
Equality of opportunities
Which type of written parental consent should be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE)? (A) Opt-In. (B) Opt-Out. (C) None.
Opt-in
2ND AMENDMENT
Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.
Agree
In principle I agree, but it is more complicated. We have trained, armed secutity guards or peace officers at each campus, which is my preference, We also have a district police force.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
In the event of a pandemic, school districts can mandate whatever health precautions they deem necessary (including masks and vaccines) to protect students and staff.
Strongly Disagree
