RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

None. The taking of an innocent human life, whether born or unborn, is morally wrong, regardless of the circumstances of conception. Either all lives matter, or none of them matter. Those who advocate for "my body my choice" and body sovereignty as a way to permit abortions are ignoring the sovereignty of the innocent life they deem it OK to terminate.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

In Texas, the property tax should be eliminated completely so that property rights are restored. With exploding property values and no brakes on the corresponding explosion in tax revenue out of line with actual population and services, this is a recipe for disaster, which could deprive those on fixed incomes of their homes when they cannot afford the property tax. Sales taxes are regressive and most burdensome on the poor, but we already have no sales tax on food ingredients (vs. prepared food), and this could be expanded to cover basic necessities, such as feminine sanitary products, diapers, and other baby care items. Sales tax holidays on clothing and school supplies already exist. Gas taxes by the State of Texas should also be minimized to avoid burdening the poor. A consumption tax that exempts basic necessities of life is a better answer, as all Texans would be contributing to it, not just the property owners.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

A better question would be, what government spending should we KEEP? All government spending should be scrutinized to eliminate wasteful spending to lower the tax burden on the people. Government spending should follow the principles of fiscal responsibility, personal responsibility, limited government, rule of law, and state sovereignty. Before spending taxpayer money, lawmakers should ask: Is it Constitutional? Is it a core function of government? Does in increase personal liberty, free enterprise, personal responsibility, or property rights? Does it decrease spending, taxes and fees, government control, regulations, and federal or state overreach? And is it right for a moral people to spend this money? If it does not pass these tests, we should not be spending it. That is not to say it is not money that shouldn't be spent, rather, should the State be the one doing the spending?

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

Federal subsidies have not led to increased efficiency, affordability, or financial solvency in higher education. The Federal Reserve Bank of NY found institutions increased tuition by 40 cents for every dollar increase in Pell Grant funding. More work should be done to promote military careers and trade & tech schools, we have a shortage of skilled labor that is exploding, and college is not the answer for every child.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

Examples - being forced to provide abortion or child gender modification should not be allowed if one is opposed on moral or religious grounds.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

None! This is a Constitutionally protected right that was violated by executive overreach during the pandemic by County, State, and Federal governments.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

While I would say "C" most closely matches my view, there is a lot of work to be done regarding these programs. This should be more of a state's issue instead of Federal government. From a constitutional standpoint, there is no provision in the U.S. Constitution that authorizes the federal government to provide health care, and the power to do so belongs to individual states under the 10th amendment. Medical costs are high for a variety of underlying reasons that would also need to be addressed. We must vigilantly guard against the expansion of Medicare and Medicaid, for while we will always need to take care of a portion of citizens who are without means, we must encourage and promote self-sufficiency and jobs for the able-bodied and those mentally able to contribute to the workforce.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

None! Despite case law allowing some vaccines for communicable diseases, I believe a vaccine is still a medical procedure that should be agreed between a doctor and a patient. Medical records should be private and not subject to state inspection. Americans should have the right to sovereignty of their bodies and not be forced to inject, ingest, inhale, or otherwise permit substances into their bodies without their consent. And they should not be denied to right to circulate in public if they do not submit to vaccines. If the vaccines work, then the vaccinated population is not at risk. And if the vaccines do not work, why require them?

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

First of all, all borders, including the southern border, must be secured. Foreign nationals from over 140 countries have streamed into the United States in 2021 through our porous southern border. Assets can be frozen of known terrorists. Islamic terrorists hide behind the unprecedented Religious Freedom that Americans enjoy. We should consider legislation denying religious status to any so-called religion that advocates the killing or subjugation of non-adherents to its tenets. At this point it is political and ceases to be a religion. In this way, action can be taken without harming the religious freedom we enjoy, while true religions that advocate peace and harmony can still be allowed to flourish.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Strongly Disagree

BDS targets Israeli businesses, universities, and those who do business with them, and not the settlements that are in question, punishing all, and fundamentally rejects the sovereignty of the Jewish state. It is aimed at the ultimate destruction of Israel as a whole and does not bring parties to the table for productive talks and compromise. It's not how to proceed towards peace and has failed to get results. When it isn't working it is time to try something new if peace is truly the goal.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

This is a matter of national security. Every nation should be able to determine for itself who is allowed to enter and under what circumstances.

Strongly Agree

This is a matter of national security. Every nation should be able to determine for itself who is allowed to enter and under what circumstances.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

The immigration policy should be based primarily on merit (what America needs from its citizens) and much less on lotteries. Chain migration should be ended. No other country in the world allows "anchor babies" who are citizens because they are born within a country's borders, and neither should America. We should admit those people who plan on serving this country and its ideals. We should choose to admit those who desire to uphold American values and freedom, and not those who want to establish their home country rules in our country. America is a great nation because of the principles our Founding Fathers based the country on, and deviation from these values has proved disastrous for every other government on the planet. We should be cautious in admitting those who seek to change our fundamental system of government, and we have every right to do so, to preserve our nation. We can still provide humanitarian aid and military assistance as needed, where needed, without opening our borders to every potential refugee who wants to come here. Yes, we will admit refugees, but we should be allowed to determine who, and how many, and over what period of time. People who argue for open borders still lock the gates and front doors to their homes at night, and rightly so. We should, as a country, have a right to determine who may enter our borders.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Roman Catholic Christian who believes in the sanctity of human life from conception until natural death, and that God created us man and woman, in His image, to procreate and cover the earth. We are to love God with all our heart, all our soul, and all our strength, and love our neighbors as ourselves and as Christ loves his Church. We are to pray for our enemies remembering they are also beloved creations of God, and strive for peace and harmony and the dignity of every human person. We have an inherent fallen nature prone to sin and separation from God, which we must constantly combat through prayer and acceptance of God's graces in our lives. When creating laws, lawmakers would do well to remember our inherent sinfulness and protect the most vulnerable and needy, because greed, corruption, and exploitation of others is inherent in our fallen nature, and safeguards need to be enacted because of these sinful tendencies that all humans share.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

In Texas, the 87th legislature actually lowered voter fraud penalties from a felony to a misdemeanor and refused to address the issue when it was pointed out by grassroots conservatives. They did create new felonies for counting invalid votes, and refusing to count valid votes, but inexplicably lowered the penalty for actual voter fraud. Stronger voter fraud penalties should be reinstated immediately! Forensic audits of elections should be the norm and not the exception. Anyone objecting to full forensic audits has something to hide. Arguments against the cost of audits or of auditable voting operations are moot, because without faith in our elections being open and fair, we have lost our country, and are no better than a third-world country. If We the People want our voices to be heard, we all need assurance that our votes are valid, that valid votes are counted, and that illegal votes are not counted. As a cybersecurity expert, no voting machines should be allowed internet access, period. Paper ballots are self-authenticating and have worked for over a hundred years before computers. Ballot gathering, transporting, and counting should be livestreamed, recorded, and completely transparent for anyone who wants to watch. Valid chain of custody should be practiced when transmitting voter records. The highest possible security measures should be taken, recognizing that because of our fallen nature, there will always be corrupt politicians seeking to retain or gain power illegally. We must be constantly vigilant against this. It is not a one party or the other issue, this is an overall problem which every person in our country should be concerned with.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Racism in any form is a threat to a civilized society. Racists fail to understand that we are all created in God's image. Separating groups of people for disparate treatment (whether that treatment is better or worse) is inherently problematic. We should strive for equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome, and strive to ensure that all peoples have access to opportunity, regardless of skin color.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

Reparations create a class of victims and instill a victim mentality in people based on race. This ignores the successes people of all races have achieved when provided with opportunity, coupled with hard work, perseverance, and other virtues not promoted by making someone a victim. Reparations also unfairly casts others as oppressors, yet all taxpayers are forced to contribute. Completely counterproductive to any goal of eliminating racism, it creates more, and not less, racial tension.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Strongly Agree

This is a cleaner and more efficient way to extract gas from areas once thought uneconomical to explore and contributes to the important goal of energy independence so we and our economy are not dependent on imported energy sources. Proper safeguards are and should be required to ensure such operations are not threats to human health in any way.

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution enumerates the powers of the Federal Government - to coin money, regulate interstate commerce, declare war, raise and maintain an armed military force, establish a Post Office, and raise revenues. They may enact laws necessary to carry out these goals. All other powers are reserved to the states. I expect my government to protect me from foreign invasion, and conduct its business financially and through regulation of commerce to allow the free market to work and its citizens to flourish and prosper.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Very Conservative. I see nothing extreme about smaller government, less involved in our lives, getting out of the way of businesses, and not burdening the taxpayer any more than absolutely necessary. Government has a tendency to expand, politicians have a tendency to grab more and more power for themselves, and we as citizens deserve what we get from government if we allow it to happen. This can and should be done peacefully!

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

First of all, voters should know that yes I moved from California, where I lived after being stationed there by the USMC in 1991 until 2018. There, I had a front-row seat to watching my strongly Conservative county turn blue. When I moved to Texas, I vowed not to let it happen to my new home town, county, and state, and have worked to do just that. Conservative values cross state lines, and I am better equipped than most to recognize the inisidious nature of "death by a thousand cuts" as ground is given up repeatedly, instead of standing your ground and holding fast to your values. I see it happening in Texas and I mean to do what I can to stop it. Second, as a Conservative Republican, voters can expect that my legislative priorities will align with those promoted by the Republican Party of Texas, because when you run as a Republican, voters have every right to expect you will support the party platform. These priorities currently include Election Integrity, Religious Freedom, Banning Child Gender Modification, Abolition of Abortion, Constitutional Carry, Monument Protection, School Choice for All, and Banning Taxpayer-Funded Lobbying. Chairman Rinaldi added priorities on banning vaccine mandates, and curbing existing and future executive overreach, which I also support. Our upcoming Primary ballot will include issues for Republicans to vote on, and those that are supported by a majority of Republicans will also be supported by me in Austin. Any Republican not in support of these priorities, which were approved by an overwhelming majority of Republican voters, should not consider themselves Republicans. Finally, because of my cybersecurity career, you can also expect me to pay close attention to cybersecurity issues. These are national security issues that can be devastating to individuals, businesses, states, and our nation. We must protect our municipalities, states, power grid, and other utilities from these threats. Our digital border should be vigorously protected, as should our physical borders.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Agree

I agree given that these policies don't break the law or violate the Constitution. Law enforcement is a tough career even before the hostility they have to experience today. Officers should be confident that if they follow the policies of their departments while on duty, that we the people will have their backs.

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Disagree

No funds should be redirected from police departments. Wasteful spending in other areas of government should be eliminated to support programs deemed helpful to community safety and security.

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Safety is not tied to gun ownership, it is tied to strength of character, conscience, and respect for human life. No amount of laws about these will change the hearts and minds of those who would commit gun violence. Access to guns was much less restricted, even as recently as the 1950s and 1960s high schools had gun and rifle clubs that would operate on campus in some places, students would have gun racks in their trucks, and there were not mass shootings. Mass shootings are about the person and the culture, not about the gun.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Strongly Disagree

Those who would perpetrate violence on another will use access to whatever means necessary to do it, whether it is a firearm, knife, razor blade, club, motor vehicle, poison, or any other method of harming another. We do not allow lawsuits for the manufacturers of these items which can be used as a weapon and should not allow it for firearms, or ammunition, manufacturers and dealers.
