RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Abortion (surgical or chemical) takes an innocent human life, regardless of the circumstances of conception. If a mother's life is in danger during early pregnancy, before a baby could live outside the womb, doctors should be permitted to perform a life-saving operation on the mother that may indirectly result in the death of the baby. Harm to the child is neither intended nor done directly, but an unwanted and often inevitable side effect of the treatment. I also oppose chemical abortion.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Choose not to answer
I oppose chemical abortion. Until it is no longer available, I support the use of chemical abortion drugs only under the direction of a medical doctor, with full informed consent of the possible side effects to the mother (aside from the termination of her baby's life).
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
I deeply believe in the sanctity of life from conception to natural death. All life is precious. The elderly can be an emotional, physical, and financial burden on their caregivers, but this does not justify putting them to death, any more than you would kill a teenager or a toddler for the same reasons. A life is a life, no matter how small (or old, or dealing with mental disabilities).
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
None.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Protection of religious liberty is one of the bedrocks of the founding of this nation and deserves protection. Requiring a person to violate their moral and religious beliefs is government overreach and contrary to the founding principles of this nation.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes. Israel is a strategic ally in the Middle East and one of the few democracies. We share intelligence and cooperate on security in a region where allies are crucial. We also share the challenges of terrorism, and robust economic exchanges in the areas of defense, technology, and trade.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
C. The proper role of government is the protection of life, liberty and property. While as a society we must always care for the most vulnerable among us, in the early days of this nation that burden was shouldered by the community institutions and churches. Health-share options available and adopted by many citizens prove that complex insurance programs and federal and state programs are not the only answer to healthcare.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
None. Medical treatment is between a patient and their physician and not the purview of government. Vaccinations must take into account the individual circumstances of each person and are not a one-size-fits all solution.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What is your position on the minimum wage?
Minimum wage is an interference with market forces that should set wages.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
ESG ratings are more important to financial fund managers than the individuals they often represent. Investments are designed for one thing - to generate profits for the investor. Public monies should be invested where a reasonable profit can be made on the investment, and not dictated by the ESG rating of an entity.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
The population of illegal non citizens who have flooded our southern border during the Biden adminstration numbers in the millions and has resulted in untold human suffering of the migrants themselves, who undertake a perilous journey, who are sexually assaulted and trafficked (including children), and have caused a flood of deadly fentanyl and other drugs into the US, taking American lives. Anyone for an open border is pro-human and child sex trafficking and pro-drug.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Agree
School choice is the civil rights issue of the 21st century. Every child should have access to the quality education that children of parents of means have always had available to them (through moving to a better zip code or placing their children in private schools). Competition raises the quality and lowers the cost of everything it touches. It is high time that all children regardless of parental affluence had a chance at a quality education.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
Police need funding to be effective. Additional funding could be found for community programs if desired by the local municipality but should not be at the expense of law enforcement budgets.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
As a Constitutional Conservative I believe in the God-given right to self-defense enshrined and protected by our US Constitution. When seconds count, law enforcement are at best, minutes away. This right "shall not be infringed". Can't really make that much clearer. I believe an armed society is a polite society.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
See above answer. "Gun Free Zones" are merely soft targets for bad actors who know they will encounter little to no resistance from the target. They should be abolished and adults should be allowed to protect themselves from harm.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Government's proper role is the protection of life, liberty, and property, and every law made should reflect that fact.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Unlike others who run as "Conservative Republicans" during campaign season and then conveniently ignore conservative priorities during the legislative session, I will be a true conservative not only when campaigning but when authoring and considering legislation for Texas.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Strongly Agree
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
No gender transition of minors should be legal, and gender transition of adults should not be funded by taxpayers or have its costs borne by insurance but instead should be considered an elective surgery.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian, specifically a devout Roman Catholic, who believes in the sanctity of life from conception to natural death, that all life is made in the image of God and is therefore sacred and to be protected, and that a society where all strive to live a life of personal sanctification (holiness) is a better society. We will certainly fall but we can also repent, ask for God's forgiveness and our neighbor's forgiveness, and continue on our path to eternity. As Christians we are called to be the salt and the light.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
How can this be a question? Election integrity includes ensuring those who vote are legally entitled to do so. Anything less is unacceptable.
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Strongly Disagree
The electoral college is part of the original design of the U.S. Constitution, reflecting the federal nature of the American government - a balance between people's vote and states' interests. It ensures smaller states have a voice against the more populous states. Candidates must appeal to a broad range of states and voters, fostering a more inclusive national dialogue. Without the electoral college, many states would never have agreed to join the Union.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes. Racism leads to social division, unrest, and undermines trust in institutions. Racially motivated groups can commit acts of violence and terrorism. Addressing these issues in a way that respects individual rights and the rule of law, while also acknowledging the importance of social stability and unity, is key. Upholding the principles of equality and justice as enshrined in the Constitution is essential in mitigating these threats.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
For the protection of natural women, biological men should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, or other places reserved solely to women for their safety. Undeniably, men and women are fundamentally different. If they weren't, why would people even want to attempt to change their gender? We must recognize these differences and protect biological women from the intrusion of biological males into their private spaces.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
C. The Texas power grid is too reliant on unstable and unreliable sources of power such as wind and solar. Once again this winter, wind and solar are operating at a mere fraction of their installed capacity causing a call for conservation by ERCOT. Texas should prioritize reliable dispatchable power over unreliable power sources for the safety and for the prosperity of Texans.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Nuclear power has had many advances and should be seriously considered as a long term and reliable energy source. Texas is also abundant in natural resources which led to our energy independence from foreign nations, and which should be utilized.
