QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
None
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
At the state level, we should do everything we can to significantly reduce or even eliminate property taxes. I have a proven record of following through on my campaign promises on this issue by implementing the first homestead exemption in Austin, lowering property taxes for all homeowners. As a Senior Fellow with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, I was also a key part of passing landmark property tax reform legislation at the state level that will significantly slow the wild growth of property taxes.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
We see news reports everyday of frivolous spending at all levels of government. We should implement zero-based budgeting, and ensure all state agencies and programs justify each item in their proposed budget, rather than simply increasing their previous year's budget. We should do a complete audit of our state budget and eliminate frivolous expenditures. I have worked with the Texas Public Policy Foundation on a plan to completely eliminate the largest portion of our property taxes (maintenance and operations taxes for schools) by dedicating surplus revenue from the state to supporting public school operations. This will cut most property tax bills by 1/3 and reduce our reliance on “Robin Hood” while still maintaining excellent funding for our public schools.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
The government mandated shutdowns associated with COVID-19 were eye opening. The government has no right to force churches to close their doors. Our freedom to express ourselves and assemble as Christians is protected by the First Amendment.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
C
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
None
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
What the Biden Administration did last August in Afghanistan was unconscionable. Because of their poorly executed withdrawal from the country, Americans were left behind and billions of dollars worth of American weapons and equipment were put into the hands of terrorist groups that wish harm on America. While I do not believe in endless wars, we must demonstrate strength through maintaining the world's strongest military with well-trained soldiers and cutting edge technology. Efforts by the left to insert woke politics in our military training are moving us backwards and putting our nation in harms way.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
I am opposed to illegal immigration but in favor of legal immigration in which applicants go through the legal process of becoming citizens.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I will allow my biblical world-view to guide every decision I make as an elected official. My faith in Christ always comes first.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
While there were a lot of great things included in the recent election integrity reforms, it has been widely reported that it lowered illegal voting in Texas from a second degree felony to a Class A misdemeanor. This must be changed back and voter fraud must be a felony offense.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
No. Racism is awful and has no place in our society, but it is not a threat to domestic security. A threat to our domestic security would be the racial division caused by the left.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Agree
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
I believe the purpose of government is to protect our individual liberties from threats foreign and domestic.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
I have four years of voting records illustrating I was the lone conservative on the Austin City Council. Some highlights: I lower property taxes by passing Austin's first and only landmark homestead exemption. I was the only member to vote against radical leftist efforts to use taxpayer dollars to fund Planned Parenthood and benefits for illegal immigrants. I repeatedly exposed frivolous government spending and advocated for increased accountability for taxpayers.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
Eight years ago, I was so irate at the foolishness of the Austin City Council that I successfully ran for and won a seat on the Austin City Council - as a conservative. It wasn't easy, but I realized that if I wasn’t willing to stand up and fight then I didn’t deserve to complain. I’ve seen the liberal playbook from inside the belly of the beast, and I know that we must continue to stand up to protect our Hill Country communities from being attacked. Our nation is at a crossroads, and it is up to Texas to lead the way back to freedom. As your next state representative, you can trust I will fight to secure the border, reform and lower our property taxes, keep critical race theory out of our schools, and protect your privacy in your healthcare decisions - because I have a proven record of doing just that. If we want to get our state on the right path, we need to elect proven leaders who have shown that they have the fortitude to stand up for what is right - even when, especially when, it’s hard.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
None
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
