RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
There’s no medical difference between an elective abortion and a therapeutic abortion. These terms are used in law to categorize how abortions are legislated and whether they’re covered by health insurance. But the procedures themselves are the same. In other words, the only difference between an elective abortion and a therapeutic abortion is why they’re done. People may choose to have an abortion for any reason they want within the limits of the laws that govern the place of the procedure.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Agree
The In-person consultation is required in Nevada and is advisable to control the drug and know that is administered to the person requesting it. Its a formal safety reason nothing more nothing less. I do not view it as unreasonable and it is the current law in Nevada.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Disagree
This funding should remain so that all people have access to this care especially Medicaid eligible patients.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Agree
To aid in ending suffering and quality of life issues I support laws that allow but have many safety switches in place to prevent abuse and mistakes.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Property rights are essential to a free enterprise system because they provide stability, incentives for investment, and the efficient allocation of resources. Property rights allow individuals and firms to own property and use it as they see fit, without fear of having their property taken or used without their consent. This security and confidence provides the motivation for individuals to take risks and invest in their businesses.
What is your position on the minimum wage?
The minimum wage helps prevent labor abuse especially among the less informed worker and provides the base level for any work performed in the United States. It is controversial for many reasons especially the employer but we must set a standard.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
ESG investing has been criticized for a number of reasons, including: Vagueness and inconsistency The lack of a universal framework or standardized guidelines has led to companies interpreting and reporting ESG metrics in varied ways. Complexity Some say ESG metrics are complex and unreliable.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
At both the state and federal level in the U.S., religious groups enjoy pretty robust protections. People of faith have the right to worship as they see fit with limited government interference and the ability to challenge troubling policies in court. During an emergency like the coronavirus crisis, these overarching protections for religion don’t change. However, state officials can impose temporary regulations like bans on group gatherings that might, in other circumstances, lead to lawsuits.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Disagree
Business owners have the right to refuse service or turn away a customer to protect their patrons and business. For example, “no shirt, no shoes, no service” and other dress codes are the types of requirements that private businesses can impose on potential customers as long as they are not discriminatory. Anti-discrimination laws apply on local, state and federal levels. The Federal Civil Rights Act of 1964 states that no business (public or private) serving the public can discriminate.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
B
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Government, school and employers should not be allowed to require vaccinations. It is an indivual right.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Agree
The PRC violates its World Trade Organization commitments and international norms and standards through massive subsidies to favored companies, intellectual property theft, forced tech transfer, and corrupt trade and investment practices. CCP-controlled firms undersell to gain unfair market access. Its One Belt One Road Initiative (BRI or OBOR) preys on other countries via unsustainable and corrupt lending while ignoring global labor and environmental standards.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes. Since the 1960s, the United States has been a strong supporter of Israel. It has played a key role in the promotion of good relations between Israel and its neighbouring Arab states—notably Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt—while holding off hostility from countries such as Syria and Iran.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Regardless of what actions take place in the short term, whether by statute or executive action, the border crisis will be with us for a long time. The numbers of people trying to come to the United States have skyrocketed as migrants from all over the world, not just Mexico, try to come here. It is more difficult to hire border patrol agents than perhaps any other law enforcement position in the federal government.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Agree
Some states allow parents to use public funds to pay for their child's education, including private schools and homeschooling. These programs include: Education savings accounts (ESAs): Provide public funds to families with children who don't attend public schools. These funds can be used for private school tuition or other education expenses, such as tutoring and homeschooling supplies. School vouchers: Redirect public education funds to private schools.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
It is imperative for parents, concerned citizens, and elected officials to shift to an offensive posture to safeguard the innocence and lives of children from the adults seeking to abuse and manipulate them to serve their own sexual, gender, racial, and political ends.
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Strongly Agree
Parents are generally considered to have the legal authority to make medical decisions for their minor children, as long as the child is old enough to understand treatment options. This is called pediatric decision-making, and it involves the child, their parent or guardian, and their health care provider. The child should be increasingly involved in decision-making as they develop, until they are able to make their own decisions.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Disagree
No funds authorized or appropriated by Federal law, and none of the funds in any trust fund to which funds are authorized or appropriated by Federal law, shall be expended for any gender transition procedures.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Disagree
The Defense of Marriage Act, signed into law by President Clinton in 1996, defined marriage as "only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife" for federal purposes. In 2013, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in United States v. Windsor that DOMA's definition of marriage was invalid, in 2015, the Supreme Court ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges that states could no longer recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states. This granted any couples constitutional right to marry.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My spiritual beliefs allow me to question all things real and imagined for my own satisfaction and needs for understanding. I was raised and remain a Methodist, taught Sunday school and volunteered for many church activities leading to helping other and my own growth and renewal.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
Today 36 states have laws for voters to show ID at the polls. The other 14 states and Washington, D.C., use other methods to verify identity. Most frequently, other identifying information provided at the polling place, such as a signature, is checked against information on file. Proponents argue increasing ID requirements can prevent in-person voter impersonation and increase public confidence in the election process. Opponents say there is little fraud of this kind.
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Agree
The compact would modify the way participating states implement Article II, Section 1, Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution, which requires each state legislature to define a method to appoint its electors to vote in the Electoral College. The Constitution does not mandate any particular legislative scheme for selecting electors, and instead vests state legislatures with the exclusive power to choose how to allocate their states' electors.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes. The U.S. does not have a centralized electoral commission that defines standards and rules to follow without political interference. This vacuum of accountability, alongside the gutting of legislation meant to prevent discrimination, has led to rampant political interference with the process of representation that is the most central component of democracy. In addition to laws that overcomplicate the process of voting, gerrymandering is another method used to override the will of the people
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Agree
CRT does not define racism in the traditional manner as solely the consequence of discrete irrational bad acts perpetrated by individuals but is usually the unintended (but often foreseeable) consequence of choices. It exposes the ways that racism is often cloaked in terminology regarding “mainstream,” “normal,” or “traditional” values or “neutral” policies, principles, or practices.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Agree
While medical advances in transgender procedures are significantly successful, the basic biology often is unchanged when it comes to strength and endurance in various sprots. Lets keep this element of our society, traditions, and values as they have been for decades resting on the foundation of our biology at birth.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. I have first hand witness to extreme pollution on the Asia Continent and I can attest to the facotors that cause it and solutions that are more cost effective and sustainable that improve lives not take away from lives.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Nuclear power is considered the most reliable energy source because it produces maximum power more than 92% of the time, which is about twice as reliable as natural gas and coal units, and almost three times more reliable than wind and solar plants.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
The general purpose of government is to ensure the security and welfare of its citizens, and to provide a framework for the orderly functioning of society. Governments are responsible for creating and enforcing the rules of a society, defense, foreign affairs, the economy, and public services.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
I consider myself to be somewhat moderate but not ready to take the Lean Conservative designation. I believe that extremism detracts from our ability to get things done. This is true in any aspect of our lives no matter if considering our relationships with others, home life, work, school, or religious activities. We can make great progress to a better more kind society if we can place and support more rational moral people with integrity in everything they do.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Strongly Disagree
Having been Law Enforcement myself many years ago and now serving as a volunteer in my county Sheriff Department (SAU) I see daily what life saving equipment is missing especally in rural counties my my Senate District 19. Community programs have the ability to gather their own funding.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Current laws are working very well. Background check laws are essential to protecting public safety by preventing people from purchasing firearms if they have a history of harming themselves or others, or are otherwise at high risk of violence. Federal law prohibits people who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, or are subject to certain domestic violence protective orders, from purchasing or possessing firearms and ammunition. Current state laws may also relied on.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
I believe that if a responsible law abiding teacher who is vetted and trained to carry a firearm and wants to do so should be allowed to do so. Being a qualified person myself to carry a firearm legally should also be allowed to carry in and near school zones.
