QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Only in the case of life of the mother being at risk
ECONOMY
Redistribution of income is needed to lessen the gap between the wealthy and working classes.
Strongly Disagree
The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.
Strongly Agree
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
The Federal tax code is overly burdensome for most Americans to navigate without the help of accountants or online services. This doesn’t need to be the case, and for that reason I support a simplified tax code. I also support making tax cuts from the tax cuts and jobs act permanent as well as rolling back the tax increases of the recent “inflation reduction act.”
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
What should be the relationship between the church and the state?
Freedom of religion does not mean freedom from religion. While the state should not establish or support specific religious groups or institutions, it should also not restrict the First Amendment rights of any religious institution, or individual.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
The US military has always required its personnel to get vaccinated against a whole host of diseases, and as a veteran I have first-hand experience with this. While vaccinations are mandatory in the military, it is important to have policies in place that allow for exemptions based on religious beliefs or health concerns. The same principal holds true no matter if it’s in the public or private sector. In dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak, there has been a lot of debate regarding vaccine requirements. In this case, individuals should have the medical freedom to determine the best course of action for themselves and their children regarding vaccinations.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
C
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
B)
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
Rooting out Islamic terrorism has been an ongoing fight for decades. While the US withdrawal from Afghanistan was both bloody and ill-conceived, it does not eliminate our ability to act on threats that exist overseas. When strong intelligence is available regarding a credible threat to national security, there should be zero hesitation on the part of our leaders to eliminate that threat. The other factor is threats to the homeland from within. Without a secure border or strict enforcement of our visa laws, it is impossible to restrict the flow of bad actors into the country. Every day, tens of thousands of people are detained at the border, representing over 170 countries of origin. This is unacceptable and places an undue burden on Border Patrol agents, and law enforcement in the interior. We need to enforce our immigration laws that are already in place and prioritize stopping the flow of illegal immigration at the border. In addition to what we can do to eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism, it is important that we work with our allies in the Middle East to eliminate funding to regimes that support this extremist ideology.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds shall be denied to any public or private entity, such as a sanctuary city, that is not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
The US allows more legal immigration into our country than any other nation on Earth. Legal immigration is an important economic driver and we should continue to encourage people to pursue the American dream. However, we should regularly evaluate the cap on this number of legal immigrants that are allowed to relocate here to ensure we are not crippling our own workforce, depressing wages, or hiring for positions that could be filled by current US citizens.
VALUES
Sexual orientation and gender identity should be protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Agree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
As a Catholic, I believe in the sanctity of all life and that we are all granted individual freedoms by our creator – life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness – and that those rights do not come from our government, but are rightfully recognized by it; and that it is our duty to be good stewards of the civil society that we have inherited from the great leaders who came before us. My faith guides me to abide by the Golden Rule, which is to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
The Constitution requires state legislatures to determine the voting laws in their individual states, and it would be an extremely dangerous precedent to move to federalize election laws. That being said, recent examples have shown us that there are flaws in this system when state voting laws are ignored or changed by elected officials outside of the state legislatures e.g. state attorneys general, secretaries of state, or governors. We need to work with our colleagues at the state level to ensure the integrity of every election, from the President all the way down the ticket.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
I condemn racism wholeheartedly and believe we should all work together to educate future generations about its dangers in order to build a more perfect Union for all.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Agree
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Did not answer
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
Voters should know that I will always be consistent in my voting and always follow the Constitution. They should also know that while I do hold conservative values, I have and will continue to work with my Democrat colleagues to move meaningful legislation, just as I did when sponsoring and passing the Energy Cybersecurity University Leadership Act.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Criminals, the mentally ill, and individuals who are underage should be prevented from buying firearms. It is also important that the laws already on the books are enforced. In addition, maintaining and integrating the databases used to conduct background checks is another important tool to keep guns out of the hands of those who are not legally allowed to own them.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
