OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Disagree

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Disagree

If this means donating to certain officials or their campaigns, then I am a strongly disagree. If it means paying for travel to speak to the legislature or officials about needs of the school system and advocating for the school system's funding, then I'm a strongly agree.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

Government should not be paying for college. If tax dollars must be used for K-12, then the choice of educational system should be up to the parents, and the dollars should follow the student. This is a workable system used in many places and allows parents the greatest control over the methods of education and content used for their children.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

EDUCATION

What is the function of the local school board?

Our school board oversees the school budget; the hiring and firing of top FCPS personnel, such as the superintendent; and the overarching policies of the school system. It also provides the vision for the superintendent's office so curricula, safety and culture best serve the children's needs. The school board serves as the eyes, ears and voice of the taxpayers, parents and students as well as their advocate within the school system. It also serves as a balance, a mediator of sorts, between the needs of all members of the school system.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

The school board should set the vision and direction for the curriculum and should provide firm guidance to the superintendent and chief academic officer over content and pedagogy. Teachers should have adequate leeway to use materials that best fit their classes as long as those materials meet overarching guidelines set by the school board. Parents should have veto authority over materials they find objectionable for their own children, as long as suitable alternatives are proposed.

When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?

Never. Though time limits are reasonable for the speaking portion of a presentation, full consideration of submitted written material should be afforded by the board.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Language Arts, Mathematics, American History, Science, Vocational Learning to include information technology or other 2-year full certifications, Art & Music, Physical Fitness, Foreign Language, Personal and Business Financial Management

Which more closely matches your view of America's founding principles? A) Liberty and equality. B) Slavery and racism.

A) Liberty and equality, though it must immediately be stated that there were serious moral problems with the allowance of slavery in the foundation of the country and that racism and slavery have left deep wounds. Instead of constantly trying to sow division, the schools should actively enforce equity of opportunity, support for growth, and reward for achievement. By assisting all students to flourish with their God-given talents, we can create prosperity and respect for all.

What does "equity in education" mean to you?

Equity in education means providing equal opportunities for success as well as support or remediation where needed to gain mastery of school subjects with the recognition that not all students will achieve at the same pace or to the same level. There should not be academic deserts in Fairfax County, nor should there be vast differences in the resources available between schools.

Written parental consent (opt-in) must be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Strongly Agree

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Strongly Agree

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

School boards are accountable to parents and taxpayers.

Strongly Agree

Do you believe students should have access to materials that graphically depict and describe sexual acts?

No

If parents want their children to know about sexual acts, they can teach them at home. There is no person with a child who doesn't know this material.

All print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review.

Strongly Agree

Do you believe print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school.

Yes

Why keep secrets from the people who are paying for this general education? The public has a right to know where its money is going and to serve as a watchdog over its government.

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe that God has dominion over all creation, ever square inch, and that the teachings of Jesus Christ passed down by his apostles are the foundation of interpersonal respect, kind treatment and, most of all, love. The more we behave like Christ and his mother who loved him more than anyone ever, the more we will follow him and love our fellow man in action, not just sentiment.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Strongly Agree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Parents are the only people who should be teaching their children about sex. The schools may rightly teach anatomy and biology when students reach high school, but this constant sexualization of children when their brains are not developed causes confusion and disordered interests. Protect the children's innocence, and you will see a reversal in much of the deviant behavior currently trending.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

Did not answer

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Neutral

If you are referring to the 10 Commandments, then yes, that is a necessary framework for a functional society. But for limited government, I would say there is little relevance. You can have a limited government without Christian morality. It is a functional society that cannot survive without it.

I support allowing public middle and high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Biological males should be allowed in female locker rooms and bathrooms.

Strongly Disagree

No school official should be involved in the social or medical transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.

Strongly Agree

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

A candidate's personal moral values are relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Agree

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

These labels are of limited value since each individual defines them as they see fit. For example, someone might say they are conservative but support endless spending on wars abroad or say they are liberal but not support parents' rights to choose their child's mode of education or an individual's right to life. I am a traditionalist, believing that the laws of nature and the hierarchy of creation are the most reliable foundations for a civil society.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I am solutions-oriented, details-focused, get-the-job-done-well kind of person who will work with anyone who is striving for excellence. I understand what the problems are, have volunteered in the school system for decades, and have actionable corrections that can be implemented immediately to yield fast, enduring, positive results.

2ND AMENDMENT

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Disagree

Let's let the teachers teach and secure the schools so they can do so. There are better ways to deal with violence at the schools than arming teachers. Besides, the training to handle a rapid response to an active shooter or other immediate threat is quite intensive, going way beyond concealed carry education.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?

I am not a fan of forced vaccinations. I think parents should be the decision-makers without coercion and under the advisement of a competent pediatric medical provider.

I support mask mandates.

Strongly Disagree

All official open meetings should be live streamed, recorded, and have transcripts available online for public access.

Strongly Agree

All votes should be roll call votes and recorded in meeting minutes.
