Currently, most endorsing organizations ignore third parties. But when we actually become a democracy, that will no longer happen.

OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Disagree

When I used Planned Parenthood for my annual female physical, I saw a brochure that listed every possible option for a pregnant person with NO pressure for any choice she would have made. The emphasis was to prevent the next unwanted pregnancy so that children were planned for--that's why it's called Planned Parenthood. Instruction is definitely needed. My religion provides instruction so that its teens hopefully choose and plan for when to have children.

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

That is up to the female and the doctor in consultation, considering all factors. My God would not allow pregnancy to result from rape, incest or into families already overwhelmed nor would my God allow those who would be wonderful parents to be barren.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Agree

Jesus' teachings were to care for and about each other. For many, there but for the grace of God go I—born into poverty; disability from birth, disease, war or carelessness by others; fortunate to become aged. If we truly had a government that was "by the people, of the people and for the people," this would not be a question. Native tribes had hunters and gatherers who brought in food for all and no “proofs of eligibility” required.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

John Dewey. "The real safeguard of democracy is education." We need the attainment of a basic education for all by investing in the students rather than a source of financial profit for "shareholders." Many other countries provide free college as well. If we say there are God-given talents, then how can we not let them be nurtured? The current student debt situation is abominable--I obtained 7 years of post-high school education and was able to pay it off in only a few years in the 1970s, while being a single parent.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Disagree

This is not Biblical--if that's important. Marriages of a man with more than one woman is in the Old Testament. The New Testament was about Love. I don't understand where "supported with taxpayer or public funds" comes into this question. As to legality, Jesus answered that: "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's." Each person should be allowed to follow one's own religious rites; civil laws are separate.

The Ten Commandments should not be displayed in public school buildings or court houses.

Neutral

That display would be fine with me so long as the "rules" of other religions about how to conduct oneself are equally displayed.

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Agree

I believe religion--all religions--need to be taught in school to help us understand that "matters of conscience and faith" may differ between them yet we can all follow the precept of "Love thy neighbor."

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Disagree

A strong people is more important. Our country should be helping all peoples over the world to be fed, housed and healthy, making friends instead of enemies. Our Dept. of Defense has declared Climate Change and COVID as security interests and that's where our strong military can do much work. Too much money is spent to make manufacturers of weapons (and fighting machines) increasingly wealthy. They'll never make it through the eye of the needle.

EDUCATION

Every state should mandate K-12 standardized tests and the use of teaching software which aligns with Common Core standards.

Strongly Disagree

I have a BA in Education and studied Common Core when I ran for the State Board of Education. It is not good and too much time is wasted on the "standardized tests" making those companies rich and taking from developing the God-given talents of our children.

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Neutral

They already can. Those that have the money can provide all kinds of enrichment for their own children. Or some of us found other ways than costly ones to do that for our children--I read books to mine and we traveled (in the US).

Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

Agree

My daughter received her "sex education" at church--40 hours--with children she'd grown up with. In school, it was only 3 days--by the time I wrote to the school to opt her out, it was over. And of course one boy tried to ask the grossest question he could. My church's sex ed. likely differs from your organizations' ideas but school programs are not the best. School tries because most parents are inadequate in this area.

I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

Strongly Disagree

It is very much part of history. Germany teaches about the Holocaust so it never happens again. We need to do similarly.

The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.

Neutral

I know of a private school that does not take federal dollars so it does not have to deal with that control. Any school could do that.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Neutral

But those are not the only framework and I often wish that "Christians" would read Jesus' teachings, ask "What would Jesus do?" and do accordingly. I worked with one who kept his faith to himself but lived it conscientiously.

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Disagree

Sometimes a baby is born with "parts" of both and parents make a decision that later turns out to not be the one that fit that child. I still have some questions about whether athletic competition might be unfair but I don't know and I don't think it's been sufficiently studied.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I'm sorry. I have run out of time. I think my answers likely expressed them.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Disagree
