QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
None. There are certain situations where the doctor must take action to save the life of the mother, which may inadvertently cause the death of the unborn child. However, this isn't the same as an abortion, since an act of violence isn't committed against the child.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support fully defunding Planned Parenthood and all other organizations which provide abortions.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
None.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
I generally believe that it's not possible to completely eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism, and that many of our military interventions have made the threat of Islamic terrorism worse, rather than better. However, one thing that we can do to eliminate the threat of Islamic terrorism is to at least stop funding countries that support terrorism. We currently still fund a lot of countries in the Middle East that harbor and support terrorism. I believe that military action is justified in some situations. However, when we use military action we should declare war as the Constitution demands, go all out and quickly win the war, declare victory, and bring our troops home. I'm opposed to nation building and long term military occupations.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
Theoretically, we should simply have a free market in healthcare, with no government programs, including Medicaid and Medicare. However, Medicare is a program that people have paid into their entire lives. Therefore, I believe the government has a contractual obligation to pay out the benefits to people who have paid into the system. Also, I'm opposed to a program like Medicaid philosophically, but I don't believe we can simply pull the rug out from people overnight. I don't believe that programs like Medicare and Medicaid should've been created to begin with. However, now that those programs exist we have to be careful about how we proceed, because immediately abolishing programs that people have come to rely on isn't feasible. Instead, I think we should gradually present free market alternatives to those programs over time.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
I don't believe that a school or government institution should ever be allowed to require vaccinations. Theoretically, I think employers should be allowed to require vaccinations. However, I still voted for legislation which required employers to significantly expand religious exemptions for Covid vaccine mandates. I had constituents reach out to me and tell me that they were going to lose their jobs if we didn't do anything to help them. Therefore, on that vote I decided to vote to serve my constituents who had reached out to me. I voted for that bill even though it violated my political philosophy, since I'm opposed to increasing regulations on businesses.
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
At the state level I've been focusing on repealing the sales tax on food. 38 states don't tax food that's bought in grocery stores, and I believe it's wrong for the government to tax the basic necessities of life.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I would cut spending within the Kansas Department of Commerce, because much of that spending amounts to corporate welfare. I don't believe that taxpayer money should go to corporations. I also support reducing the size of the state workforce through attrition. If a state employee retires and it's determined that that job doesn't need to be refilled, then we shouldn't refill that job. That can be done without firing anyone.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
I support securing the border either through a wall or through putting our military along the border.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
I believe the U.S should have a welcoming immigration policy, and I don't support reducing legal immigration. I believe that reducing legal immigration would simply cause more illegal immigration. I wouldn't make significant changes to our immigration laws, but I would focus on securing the border and stopping illegal immigration. I support legal immigration and believe it has benefited our country, but I oppose illegal immigration.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Agree
I have voted to expand school choice in the Kansas legislature.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Disagree
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I'm not in favor of restrictions on gun ownership, other than having a legal age to buy guns. I don't believe children should be allowed to buy guns.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
To protect people's rights and freedoms.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
I received a 97% rating from the American Conservative Union in 2021, the second highest rating in the Kansas house. http://ratings.conservative.org/people/ca3f1bf6-44e0-4d67-b242-3cd29905723c
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I'm planning on focusing heavily on introducing legislation to protect the lives of unborn children in the future.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
This is true, as many of our laws today are based on the 10 commandments.
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Agree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I'm a strong Christian, and I became a Christian at a young age. I attend Calvary Baptist Church, located three miles north of Stafford, Kansas. I've served on the finance committee and as an usher at church. I believe that those of us who are Christians have a responsibility to be ambassadors for Christ. We have a responsibility to live in a way that represents how Christ lived and that represents his teachings. While we'll never live up to this ideal, I believe we have a responsibility to do our best to live up to the example that he set for us, such as not repaying evil with evil. We should strive to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. This is especially hard in politics, but I believe as Christians we should have the mindset that as followers of Christ we have an obligation to love everyone, even those who mistreat us.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
There should at least be surveillance of drop boxes.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Yes. But, I believe that racism exists on both sides. There are people of all races who are racist. It's not a problem that simply exists in one race. It's an example of rejecting the Biblical teaching that all of us are created equal, and that we have a responsibility to love everyone. Racism on all sides can negatively impact domestic security.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
In general, I believe that stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. I believe that strict environmental laws are one reason we are currently seeing such high gas prices.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Agree
