QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

The personhood of the child, as with the mother’s, should not be violated. If in the very rare case of needing to save the life of the mother or child, a qualified physician should follow the rule of “do no harm” and attempt to save both lives.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Legitimate power of government protects life, liberty and property and cannot force anyone to join a church. All forms of religion must be tolerated.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Agree

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Federal government should provide direct grants to states to create high-risk pool coverage and provide subsidies (with coverage options) for those who qualify. The Heritage Foundation's Health Care Choices Proposal is a good model. I have always supported local healthcare options and support the Genesee Health Plan to keep lower income employees healthy, at work and at home.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Streamline Michigan Strategic Fund to proven, best-practice, projects. Eliminate/restructure Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Michigan Economic Growth Authority due to poor return on value with costs far exceeding promised gains in local economies.

IMMIGRATION

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Agree

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Strongly Agree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Immigration should be flexible to identify employment needs from medical doctors and engineers to those with unique qualifications and to fill underemployed economic sectors. Policy must adjust as these fields are filled and we have citizens trained and available for hire. Skills must be verified and background checks must ensure those who would subvert our rule of law are not allowed access. Chain migration must have a clear limit. Those applying due to political asylum and religious persecution should be vetted and accepted if physical harm may come to them if they remained in their home nation.

EDUCATION

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

Agree

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

Yes

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Convicted felons of violent crime against persons should be banned. Mental health issues where proper due process has determined there is clear evidence of serious harm to oneself or others may be temporarily restricted. In Michigan,"Every person has a right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the state."

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Strongly Disagree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

Veterans. To enable more access to VA benefits through county and other local veteran service agencies. Also, to reimburse county government, and other local taxing units, the exempted property tax of 100% disabled veterans. Life. Any legislation that promotes the value of the child in the womb. Infrastructure. Fix roads and bridges, maintain emergency action ability, attack PFAS and other contaminates, rebuild confidence in the state's residents by accomplishing the legitimate role of government.

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

It has been a growing threat in religious attacks. As long as we hyphenate our description of citizens we draw distinctions more than unity. Community activists and organizers use these distinctions to recruit groups to their political cause and increase threat of violence as an end to their propaganda means.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

Strongly Disagree

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

Voted against discriminating against local 18-20 years old in Tobacco 21 smoking age ordinance, but supported initiative applicable statewide, Genesee County Resolution 17-060, February 14, 2017. Voted against placing new Arts & Cultural millage tax on the ballot, Genesee County Resolution 18-215, April 23, 2018. On record to bring resolution to resist further infringement on 2nd Amendment and Michigan's right to bear arms in defense of self and state as formal county policy (Covid-19 shutdown interrupted scheduled meetings), MLive, March 11, 2020.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

Military service as a senior noncommissioned officer provides leadership, decision-making and operational experience. Elected service on city council and county commission provides budget, ordinance, public utility, and planning experience. Fully participated in Michigan Association of Counties' County Commissioner Academy. Degree in Homeland Security provides unique public safety perspective combined with military duty and corporate security experiences.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

My public service has been about serving and governing and I have not abused elective office to drive an agenda. My accomplishments have been built on relationships that strengthen our foundational values and work for the common good.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

John 3:16. Everlasting life after death is a gift of grace and not earned or deserved. As a Christian your gifts and talents must be used and not hidden, not as an act of penitence, but as a desire to emulate Christ. In service to others, loving one another, we should be the light of the world.
