QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Medical emergency that would endanger the mother, Incest, Rape

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

The organization does not plan parenthood but destroys it. I'm not in favor our tax money to the tune of $550 million dollars a year fund or subsidize such an organization. My wife and I raised our children to be productive citizens in society.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Strongly Disagree

New medical discovers are made every day. I think it would be a premature decision on the person to make in what could look like a hopeless situation to them. Only to find that a medical solution was found to improve their quality of life.

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

I believe the Florida tax code which does not include a state income tax should be continued. I also do not see a need to increase the sales tax on an already overburdened population. Perhaps we need to look closer at the fees charged for particular services or for certain types of licenses.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

The budget is balanced and we had a large surplus last year. Health care continues to take the lion’s share of the budget but that too has soaring costs that need to be reflected. I am more of the stay the course it is working but will carefully examine money is spent.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Disagree

I wasn't brought up in a financially well to do environment. My wife, two children and myself completed our degrees without incurring loans. Further not all students want to go to college and we need to consider the efficiency of trade schools also.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

I'm Roman Catholic. Business should be able to politely decline without fear of litigation. There are other businesses that I'm sure would accommodate their needs.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

I am a strong believer in religious freedom. I do understand however, that certain people take advantage of the tax-exempt status given to religious organizations which can form a profit center for “church leaders” and for their “flock”. I do not believe you should close houses or worship but a closer look at their tax exempt status is always possible.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

I would have to say there is no one size that fits all and hard issue. I'm split between B and option C

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

Growing up in NYC and in the public school system it was required to have certain vaccinations and physical exam prior to the start of the school year. I've had measles, German measles, mumps, polio vaccines. That is close physical contact and proven vaccines I don't see an issue with. A vaccine is not a cure but an immunization to protect who is inoculated from getting a more severe reaction from a virus. People can be a carrier of a virus and not release that they can spread it to unsuspecting persons

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

I'm retired law enforcement and retired Air Force. If our intelligence agencies have evidence that an attack on the US is planned a preemptive strike should take place to preclude an attack on the US. Leaders of this county should have a military background. Civilians in charge of the military is checks and balances but should take the advice of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Keep a strong and well-funded military. Citizens like their freedom but do not want to participate in maintaining the freedom they enjoy. Able bodied need to participate whether in the military or a form of civil service. The numbers in the military need to brought up. Special Forces Units need to back on line again.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Neutral

This is not an issue that will come before the state house. While I am a strong supporter of our ally, Israel, the information sought herein is too complicated and has led to wars and failed peace accords that cannot be summed up in a simple answer.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Strongly Agree

A country without borders isn't a country. No one should enter this country unchecked and helped across our border like they have a right to be here. They aren't migrants but illegals breaking our laws. The government want the citizens vaccinated but not the same for illegals. Baby formula went to border and not to our grocery shelves. Secure the border

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

The same as my grandparents were allowed to coming through Ellis Island. Free of disease, sponsored by a friend or family member, obtain employment, support their families and children. There weren't food stamps , free housing, free medical, rent subsidies. Why is there now off the backs of taxpayers?

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Agree

No matter what the category of the school is there has to be a reasonable state standard. If all the schools adhered to same set of standards there shouldn't be any reason one would do better than the other. All things being equal: funding, teacher training, equipment. When i grew up in NYC there was public school and private schools. Parents had their choice. If you chose private school the parent paid for the education, they believed was better for their children. Such as my wife and I have

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

Society has become a due as you wish without regard for moral values. Without some sort of values society erodes and the next generation to take our place in society will not be able to function

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

Male and female gender doesn't seem to be protected but excluded. You are what God determined you to be. Male or Female.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition

Strongly Agree

My wife and I, both my children were married in the Catholic church.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

It's radical liberal socialists within our government and educational institutions pushing the radical indoctrination agenda. I grew up in the public school system in the 50's and 60's in NYC. Once school integration started it did not bring up the minority standards but lowered the system as a whole

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was raised Roman Catholic as well as my children. My children were alter servers. As they got older my daughter would be a lecture. She is active with life teen program. Have to have faith in the creator and in the same light wonder why people act as they do toward each other.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

There is enough voter fraud. You need ID for various life transactions and it should be no different for voting. If you do not have an ID when you try to vote the voter is given a provisional ballot which, is later ascertained by the canvassing board to be a valid vote,

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

Eliminate unattended drop boxes and a voter should not be able to order more than one ballot and not for multiple elections.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Depends what your definition of racism is. Can't be one sided. It can be a threat since it can cause division among the citizens. You have representatives like Maxine Watters that preaches hatred and violence against US citizens.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

History is a thing of the past and move forward. Certain minorities have more opportunities than their white counterpart. There is no such thing as white privilege.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

There has to be a balance for the environment, jobs and cost. Not knowing all the environmental laws I'm sure if what is on the books is adequate. Everything has a waste bi-product. The question is what do you do with the waste. Can it be recycled and at what cost. I'm not a fan of nuclear energy. The half life of the spent radioactive rods are transported to Yucca Mountain as far as I know for holding in cooling vats at an extreme cost. Modern day society requires vasts amount of energy. No one single answer fits all.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Disagree

I can understand the process and getting the most from earth's resources however, it does damage the environment. Uses vast amounts of clean water. Back flow of carcinogens can wind up in homes through aquifers water table

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

To establish laws, maintain order and provide security to the citizens, protect from foreign and domestic threats, general welfare by providing public services. Uphold one's oath of office.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Depends on the issue I can be very conservative to conservative. Based on the issue and discussion. Issues aren't always a yes or no. Have to be looked into to make an informed decision.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

I will be on a conservative radio podcast show on September 9 at 4pm. Mike Essen podcast

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

I've served my county for 22 years as a Sheriff Deputy as well as my county for 24 years in the Air Force. I served in the Persian Gulf in 1993. As you can see most of my adult life was serving and helping others. I have the leadership skills and drive to continue on this path. I believe in doing the right thing for all and not special interests. My campaign is on a lean budget. I have not received donations from corporation. I don't cower for what's right.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Strongly Agree

While acting in their scope of their duties following the law and policy and procedure

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Strongly Disagree

While mental health plays a part and needs to be funded, shifting funds from police isn't the answer. Social workers need not accompany police to the scenes. The officer would have to ensure their safety and causing a distraction for the office. Housing people with severe mental health issues should be looked into and need not be within society until proven otherwise. Patients who stop their meds are a hazard to themselves as well as the public.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

When someone can tell me how to keep firearms out of the hands of criminal's I'll act on it. Not going to happen. Common sense. Lock your firearm from children. Do not leave it in the car. Everything liberals and democrats propose is to disarm the law-abiding citizen. 2nd Amendment was put in place by our forefathers to protect the citizens from a tyrannical government. You can serve on your knees or stand and fight for what's right.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Strongly Agree

The term gun violence is an oxymoron. Being associated with firearms with my law enforcement career and the military I've never seen a firearm that was violent. I'm a live member of the NRA and a firearms instructor. The sad recent incident in Canada of numerous deaths by stabbing is the knife violence. Cars driven into a crowd is it car violence. It's how an item is used.
