QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
If the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, North Carolina should repeal its law allowing abortion up to 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I support abortion for cases of rape, incest, or for the life of the mother.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Separation of church and state means three things. One that the government will not proscribe a certain denomination or religion for the citizens and allow the citizens to choose freely where and how to participate. Two that the government will protect the rights of those not participating in a mainline religion to be able to practice their religion freely without interference. Three, separation of church and state means that government, at any level, may not require citizens to engage in behavior that violates their religious believes. Finally, freedom of religion does not mean freedom from religion.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I would promote access to healthcare that is adequate, accessible, and affordable for all by promoting market-based reforms that encourage competitors. Examples of this include allowing individuals to purchase health insurance across state lines; by looking at reforming our Certificate of Need (CON) system with an eye towards increasing the number of healthcare providers in area and the amount of competition; by reducing restrictions on BSNs and PAS and giving them more autonomy so they can open practices in the underserved rural areas of our state and provide critical care that many patients in these areas are missing out on due to lack of access; by continuing reforms that discourage the practice of defensive medicine (which drives up cost for everyone); and by incentivizing hospitals and medical providers to increase the amount of charity care they provide to patients in need.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State, sheriff and local law enforcement agencies should be required to participate in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) 287(g) Program to enhance the safety and security of their communities to identify and detain aliens.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
People who are entering the U.S. legally through our existing immigration system who are following the prescribed process and adhering to all laws and regulations should be allowed to immigrate into the United States. Our current system should be bolstered with more personnel to curtail the backlog and enable people working there way through the legal immigration system to move through the system more efficiently. I believe this could serve as a deterrent to illegal immigration.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Strongly Disagree
Parents should have the right to know what schools are teaching their children about sex and LGBT issues and should have the right to opt their children out of any instruction to which they object.
Strongly Agree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

We raised our children in a Christian home that was focused on Christian values and have an expectation that as we display those values of love and kindness that they too display Christian values.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I hold a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina's School of Government. Additionally I have been volunteering for Representative Linda Johnson for the last 18 months as her district Liaison. This position has allowed me to get close to some of the issues facing Cabarrus County. As both a commercial airline pilot and a small business owner, I understand the challenges facing our state's economy and the need to reform our state's education system to ensure all high school graduates are college or career ready. As a husband to a university professor (that instructs first and second year college students) and a father to a high school teacher, I have a unique perspective on education, the system, and where it is working and not working. As a paramedic and volunteer firefighter, I have an insight to public safety, emergent healthcare, as well as experience in seeing the opioid crisis first hand.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
