QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I believe a women's right to choose should be determined between herself, significant other, her faith and her medical professional. Medical procedures and decisions should never be in the hands of politicians. When and size of a women's family should not be a decision in the hands of politicians. Access to affordable healthcare, living wages, contraceptives and education can greatly impact the reduced needs for abortions and should be maximized in the state to reduce abortions. Indiana's recent abortion ban will not only not reduce abortions, it is estimated to increase deaths of both women and babies by 21% for a state that already ranks 3rd highest for maternal mortality and 7th for infant mortality.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Disagree

Planned parenthood will no long be able to provide abortion services in Indiana under Indiana's recently passed legislation SB1. Access to healthcare in Indiana will be greatly hindered. Additional funding to crisis pregnancy centers has been expanded that do not have medical staff. I oppose funding non-medical centers that don't have appropriate medical professionals that may provide inaccurate guidance when prenatal care is vital

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Agree

Dying with dignity and decreased suffering is also something that can be guided with appropriate medical guidance. Although, not something one should take lightly, there may be extenuating circumstances that should be determined by the patient, their family, faith and medical professional.

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

Local tax decisions should be made at the local level not at the state level.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Indiana constitution requires a balanced budget.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Agree

Targeted tax funding could benefit Indiana. Indiana has expanded workforce development grants and funding throughout the state. Oversight and specific targeted spending should be included in this funding which has not been occurring. We have rural areas greatly in need of medical professionals and teachers. The state could provide tax funded incentives to fill these medical and education deserts that would benefit these areas.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Neutral

Somewhat agree in that services should not be denied if you are the only medical professional and the life of an individual is at stake. I feel that if you are in a medical desert and critical care needs to be provided that they should prepare for some accommodation that will not restrict vital care to their community.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

When churches receive funding that is intended for specific services intended for public use, the church should adhere to state laws that govern that service. That includes education, medical care, and treatment of mental health.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

I think the country could benefit from both state and federally funded healthcare along with privately funded healthcare. Indiana spends the least per person on healthcare than any other state and that is reflected in the poor healthcare outcomes for the state with the 3rd highest maternal mortality rates, 7th highest infant mortality rates, poor mental health and high rates of other medical related outcomes.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

I agree with current requirements.

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

I am at the state level and this is a federal level question.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Neutral

This is a federal related issue that as a state legislator, I haven't given very much thought to.

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Neutral

This is a federal issue, that I understand is a long and complicated issue. As a state legislator, I think the country is doing a great job and determining the best strategies. Most undocumented immigrants are coming through our airports not the southern boarder.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Again, this is a federal decisions and regulated by the federal government. I feel the rules we have in place are fine. We could, however, remove some of the barriers that prevent children and long time residents that were seeking immigration status to resume that process so that we have a clear idea who is in our states and have completed things like driver's tests before driving on roads and have adequate car insurance, etc.

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Strongly Disagree

I support a parents decision how to educate their child whether a private, public, home school, or charter school that should be their choice. I don't believe state public tax dollars should fund private or charter schools. Voucher & charter schools have had a devastating impact on the traditional public school system in the state. Expansion of Pre-K would have been a better investment in public dollars to increase education readiness & assist with an educational childcare for working families.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Neutral

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Agree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition

Strongly Disagree

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

Critical race theory is a term created in law schools to define education taught through the use of historically accurate facts.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe every individual has a right to their own freedom of religious belief and right to live within those beliefs. That being said, I don't believe that the state, country or individuals should impose their religion on others forcing a single religion or belief on the country, state, or individuals.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Neutral

Every US citizen over the age of 18 has a constitutional right to vote in this country. That being said how far our we as a country willing to go to take away or protect that constitutional right. Access to a photo ID may be limited in parts of the country. I think the states should make sure we provide access to all individuals to make sure they can receive a proper ID for voting purposes.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

No excuse absentee ballots should be expanded from current law. Access to poll locations and early voting locations should be expanded and funded to defray any additional costs. Expanding time for early and election day voting. Election Day holiday.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Yes. Economic and social disparities still exist in this country and recent divisions further that acceptance of individuals. It seems individuals are more concerned about their own conditions than about others getting out of poverty, making living wages or access to living conditions. The lack of compassion to giving a hand up to others should not diminish the pride of those those who have achieved the hard work able to make it on their own. If someone is drowning and you made it to the boat, I hope you would through them a life line if you could or at least allow someone who can throw the lifeline ore let them drown because you were able to swim.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Neutral

I don't really have any thoughts about this, nor have I been faced with this issue at the state level.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

I don't think either of these are a question we should be asking. Environmental laws may create more jobs and don't necessarily cost jobs. If we are referring to the fossil fuel industry, we should create jobs and make sure we address any loss of jobs for environmental law changes that impact a community of jobs, which does occur whenever we address changes. Indiana has not passed environmental laws that have improved the environment, but have passed laws that have negatively impacted the environment, allowing the state to remain at the bottom of all states for water, air and environment.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.

Disagree

I don't believe this is occurring or viable in Indiana.

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

The purpose of government is to meet the constitutionally requirements of the state and country by passing laws, managing it's budget and meeting the needs of it's constituents.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

I try to compromise between the extreme views of the state to best meet the needs of the state and it's inhabitants.

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Anyone can google my name and it will likely bring up additional information about me. They are also free to contact me with any questions. It would be best to contact me if you live in Indiana district 26 with questions as a voter.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

no, not even a traffic ticket.

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

Cytomegalovirus is the leading infectious cause of birth defects in this country yet most pregnant women don't even know about it. I have worked hard to improve education and knowledge of the virus and it's devastating impact on a pregnancy and their unborn. More information can be found ahttps://www.nationalcmv.org

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Strongly Disagree

No one should be above the law if they have broken a law.

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Strongly Disagree

I think both should be more than adequately funded. Addressing mental health and safety often go hand in hand. Making sure funding includes necessary mental health access and professionals could greatly improve our policing in communities.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Safe and responsible gun ownership must be adhered to. When irresponsible gun ownership result in a death or injury, we must hold gun owners responsible.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Neutral

If it is found that a firearms dealer or manufacturer was negligent in the sale or obtainment of a firearm then they should be held accountable.
