QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
It is important that we recognize and protect the sanctity of human life. It is incumbent upon elected officials to use their position to be the voice for the voiceless, and defend the innocent and defenseless.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." The Constitution outlines separation only in administrative duties. The constitution gives power to the three branches of government. The church should not be running the state, and and the state should not run the church.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Agree
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
Our foreign policy should involve standing firmly against terrorist-enabling countries. It is unhealthy for the United States to "turn the other cheek" when a radical Islamic terrorist, terrorist group, or country goes against an international treaty or peace agreement. It sends a message that the U.S. will not defend its own, further enabling terrorist aggression. Terrorist aggression against the United States should always come with immediate consequences.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Disagree
I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.
Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Centralized, taxpayer-funded, government-run health insurance leaves the door wide open for waste, fraud, and abuse, through limited transparency, and no accountability. It also stifles and disincentivizes innovation by reducing or eliminating the rewards for medical breakthroughs. It contributes to bloated healthcare costs because insurers and prescription drug companies don't have to compete for the end-user's business. Health coverage needs to be privatized, and only in rare instances, resort to public-private partnerships. Consumers need to be able to shop for health insurance across state lines. Consumers need to be able easily access important costs for procedures on a health provider's website or printed materials, so they can choose the health service that's right for them.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
Did not answer
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Healthcare Costs. Healthcare is one of our country's largest budgetary items, and can be addressed through privatization of most healthcare programs, and through oversight to further prevent waste, fraud, and abuse that has historically contributed to budgetary bloat.
Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?
Under very limited circumstances, such as a benefit offered for military service or other form of national defense or civil servants. It is important for individuals to take responsibility for their student loans. Simply paying off existing student loans with taxpayer dollars works to absolve individuals of their responsibility, which sets a bad precedent.
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Agree
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Agree
Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.
Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
America is a land of opportunity where people strive to achieve their definition of the American Dream. The American way of life should always be presented as something to cherish and aspire to. And, outside of legitimate asylum claims, immigration to America should be made available to people who are committed to making America even better than when they came. America is better for having skilled, educated, career-motivated, legal immigrants who have the greatest potential for personal growth or the proven track record of already being a positive influence or contributor to their country of origin.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Neutral
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The U.S. Constitution says, "The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." It doesn't say "should;" it says "SHALL."
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Neutral
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. Immigration/Homeland Security/Border Protection 2. Congressional Term Limits and Fiscal Accountability 3. Jobs, and the Education to Empower Economic Growth
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Throughout America's history, racism has directly or indirectly contributed toward oppression, marginalization, and criminality, and no one social group is innocent. Decades of normalizing one social group fomenting hatred for another has led to the disuse of emotional intelligence, a lack of empathy, gross intolerance, and the loss of respect for human life. It is important that we create a culture that identifies racist behavior and immediately confronts it, because racism, coupled with the absence of accountability, contributes to continued criminal behavior. As legislators, in addition to taking into account constitutionality, we need to ensure that we ourselves aren't promoting racist behavior in the bills we contribute to write or vote on.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I am Pro-God, Pro-Life, Pro-Israel, Pro-Military, Pro-Constitution, Pro-2nd Amendment. I am a supporter of Law Enforcement, and the selfless work that first responders do every day. I emphasize the importance of Individual Liberty & Responsibility. I believe in limited government, and continuously striving for that. The answer to our problems is not more government. I believe that Capitalism and free market enterprise are essential to ensuring that each American can, on their own volition, make the life that they want for themselves and their families. In 2008, I shot a documentary about musicians with disabilities, that showed disability within the context of totalitarian rule in Zimbabwe. That film won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short in 2010. In 2013, another film I shot, about public vs private education, won at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. In 2017, I co-produced a faith-based pro-cop documentary about the importance of fostering positive police-community relations
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
As a documentary film producer, I’ve spent the past decade making some two dozen socially-conscious documentaries on topics ranging from healthcare and education to human rights and justice. While it is important to raise awareness through documentary filmmaking, even more important is having a seat at the table, bringing fresh eyes when it comes to implementing meaningful legislation, guided by years of world experiences, local knowledge, policy expert advice, and polling residents. California can do better. California deserves better. That’s why I’m running! 2020 year is a pivotal year, where some of our most consequential local, state, and federal issues come to a head. We cannot ignore the importance of having an engaged and educated electorate, empowered to become more civically involved in the future of our city, our state, and our nation.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I was raised in a Pentecostal Christian household in Jamaica. Here in the U.S., I'm non-denominational Christian.
