QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Agree

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

I believe in the exception for life of the mother.

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Agree

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Agree

As a registered nurse I believe in balancing the need for IVF in a responsible manner.

The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

Agree

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

This means to me that the state of North Carolina should not impose a state religion on the people.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Disagree

There should be reasonable accommodations made to ensure that people can still access a business, while that business/individual does not have to go against their own religious beliefs.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Agree

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Yes, I believe that the relationship is important and we should have a two-way street when it comes to sharing critical intelligence that affects our national security.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

C. As a registered nurse I believe that Medicare should be available to the senior population so they have a stable healthcare system when they retire. Medicaid is a excellent program and resource designed for the immediate and temporary use of those who are in need of healthcare without resources. I believe that it should be closely monitored so that when people become more financially independent they can have assistance getting into their own healthcare structure.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Strongly Disagree

ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

I believe in creating an economy where workers can make a living wage. In my position I have been successful in raising the direct service providers wage from 7.25 to 12.25 per hour.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

I have been and currently am a recognized Job Champion from the NC Chamber of Commerce and I have been recognized as a NC Free Enterprise Champion.

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

Through the collaborative work that the General Assembly has with the new State Auditor, we have been finding waste in government in several agencies like the State Lottery which is allegedly under investigation for misappropriating funds. I will continue to work with our great State Auditor to ensure transparent and accountable government spending whether that is through proper oversight or legislation.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Disagree

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Agree

My survey of teachers show that the U.S. Department of Education is a money grabber and does not help local schools. These funds should be allocated to local school districts.

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Strongly Agree

No foreign government should be able to spend money on our children's education.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

The goal of our criminal justice system is to ensure that those who commit violent crimes are held accountable and those who can be rehabilitated are, so when they serve their time they can reenter society as a contributing member. Through my work at the General Assembly I have helped support various rehabilitative programs in my district like the Hope Center.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Strongly Agree

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Strongly Agree

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I support the Second Amendment and peoples ability to exercise that right in a lawful manner for their own self defense.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

I am a Conservative, but through my work as a State Representative I work to ensure that all voices are respected and heard in my office. My moto is if someone calls and needs help I do not ask what their political persuasions are, I help them.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No.

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Agree

Government should only get involved in the actions of parents to ensure the safety of the child. Parents should have a say in their child's education.

Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.

Agree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Neutral

This is my personal belief, but through the ruling made at the U.S. Supreme Court and through the Federal Respect for Marriage Act I will respect the decisions made at the federal level.

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Strongly Disagree

My work at the General Assembly has shown me that the expansion of gambling leads to declining communities and this vice should not be expanded.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

My Christian faith is very important to me and my faith is the basis of the tools that I use to respond to and work for my constituents everyday. I try to serve my constituents with dedication, commitment and availability because of how I was raised through my Christian faith "to do unto others as you would have others do unto you."

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Disagree

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Agree

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Neutral

Through my work at the General Assembly I have worked to pass bills to balance protecting our environment and having a strong economy. I have passed several environmental bills throughout my tenure, one that takes the Sam's Branch Trail into the East Coast Greenway and be able to require us to work with our farming community to have less nitrogen flowing into the Neuse River. Through this recent budget I was able to get additional funding for trash floaters for the Neuse River.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

In a growing district like mine, I believe in an all of the above energy approach to ensure that we have reliable and affordable energy for my constituents.
