QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Death of the mother is eminent if the pregnancy is continued.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Disagree
I would entertain discussions on the concept, but I am generally opposed.
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
We should not be taxing Social Security benefits as income. Also look for other ways to reduce the tax burden.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Any and all spending and programs are open to consideration and discussion.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Neutral
Taxpayer-funded education should be guaranteed for K-12. Some assistance or programs for post HS (college, vocational technical, skilled labor journeyman, etc) should also be available.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
None
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
Somewhere between B and C. We need choices for healthcare, not just single-payer or government-run healthcare. Private-sector competition is the best way to assure affordable healthcare. Medicare and Medicaid should remain as well.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
None.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
Real terrorism should be eradicated, no matter what the source.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Disagree
Israel is surrounded by enemies, who seek to destroy them. They must be allowed to exist. A peaceful solution, while difficult to imagine, should be pursued.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
A sovereign nation has the right, and indeed the responsibility, to enforce and protect their borders.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Controlled numbers of well-vetted individuals, without criminal records. Of course, some individuals fleeing persecution in their native lands.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Agree
Such freedom and flexibility will allow families to choose the options that best-suit their children's needs, gifts, skills, and situations.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Agree
Judeo-Christian values are the foundation on which our nation was founded.
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Neutral
I do not support any discrimination, but I do believe that we are all born either male or female.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Agree
Civil Unions can provide rights to healthcare access, etc, but marriage is a religious ceremony.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
I believe CRT is divisive and harmful.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian, who values sound and solid moral values.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
Voting is an important right. Asking for identification is perfectly fine with me. We need to assure those voting are who they say they are, and that they are qualified to vote.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
Prevent ballot harvesting, reduce early and mail-in voting, require oversight by equal numbers from both major parties during ballot counting and processing. Assure that everyone who can vote, is allowed to do so.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism of any type is a threat to security in the United States.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Neutral
I am open to discussion of reparations, but I tend to be opposed without proof of direct harm. I believe no benefits should be given (or withheld) purely on the basis of race.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
Reasonable and beneficial environmental laws and regulations will help to protect our environment, but they must be sensible. Regulation for the sake of regulation, without thought or reason, can be very harmful to our economy with limited positive impact. I am an environmental professional, and not all regulations are created equal. We must be sensible.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Agree
Once again, common sense must prevail. While the technology of fracking can bring about great benefits for extracting resources, for example, we must avoid the use of harmful chemicals for fracking to the degree possible.
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
To govern: to assist, to provide for security and defense, to provide and maintain infrastructure, to ensure a level playing field while protecting the environment, and to protect citizens from threats foreign and domestic.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Please view my voting record, my website, and any speaking I have done in committee or on the House Floor.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
We need to strengthen families - they have always been an integral part of the fabric that holds this country together. We must continue to update and maintain our transportation infrastructure. We must pursue sensible environmental regulation and protection. We must seek to reduce our tax and regulatory burden for Minnesota families and businesses. And we need to promote market-based solutions to our energy and climate needs.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Agree
On-going training must be provided, on a regular basis, to assure that policies and procedures and known, understood, and followed by police officers.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
Funding for Law Enforcement must remain strong. Funding for mental health programs, and for community programs, should be separate from Police.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
For the most part, we have adequate laws addressing gun ownership. If there are loopholes, then we must identify the loopholes and take steps to close them.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Disagree
