Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

. As an SBOE member, I chose to vote against each of the curriculums that were presented for Health and Human Sexuality to SBOE for adoption. My public remarks related to my vote were based on the Texas law requirement that: SHACs assist the districts in ensuring that local community values are reflected in health education instruction. Abstinence from sexual activity is the only method that will guarantee 100% prevention from pregnancy.

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

If the pregnancy is the result of incest or rape with an additional punishment to the offender of castration. Psalm 127:3 - Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him.


ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

I believe that every American deserves the right to own, invest, build, and prosper. Free market policies allow for economic growth and an increase in job sustainability.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

A strong educational system imbedded with school choice (charters are public and funded with government money) is the foundation of a strong nation. Educational career and college choice will give parents and students the environment they need to succeed.


RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Every state should mandate K-12 standardized tests and the use of teaching software which aligns with Common Core standards.

Student growth measurements are important, however, I am not in favor giving the government a greater say in the Texas educational system. Common Core removed Civics, misrepresented the US History of the Republic, and the character of Socialism. Students need to learn the Declaration of Independence, US Constitution, Amendments to the US Constitution, the Bill of Rights, how the three branches of government interrelate, why the Electoral College is so important and the Judicial System.

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

It's the law. Parents Rights Under the Texas Education Code 28.004, parents have the right to: Have a say in which sex ed curriculum is adopted. Parents, guardians, and community members may attend the two public meetings of the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) prior to a sex ed curriculum recommendation being made to the school board, and may attend and provide public comment at the school board meeting at which the sex ed curriculum is adopted.

I support the teaching of curricula (such as the 1619 Project, No Place for Hate, Second Step, etc.) that emphasizes slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

I believe in the tenants of the Christian faith as revealed to us through the Holy Scriptures and the teachings of the Mothers and Fathers of the Christian faith throughout the ages.

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

When I challenged this information in an adopted textbook, it brought it to the publisher and the SBOE. In turn, my committee on Curriculum and Instruction, upon my assistance, requested an update to the which aligned with Texas State Law. This update took immediate effect as of September 2, 2022.

Audrey Young, a Republican, was elected to the State Board of Education in November 2020 representing parts of the Greater Houston and Southeast Texas area. Audrey is married to Reverend Scott Moore, pastor of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Her daughters: Amanda and AmyBeth are college graduates and work full-time in their field of expertise. Young is the Director of Student Support Services for Nacogdoches ISD. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership, and a Doctorate of Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. Her career expands over 28 years in public education, as a speech therapist, reading specialist, middle school administrator and district director. She served on the Board of Trustees for Apple Springs ISD in Trinity County for 6 years. As a Master Trustee, she is on the Executive Board of Leadership for the Texas Association of School Boards Alumni Association (LTASBAA), she served three terms as member of the TASB Legislative Advisory Council (LAC) representing Region 6 and served 2 years on the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Board of Trustees Advisory Committee. Young is a 9th generation of the Rose family to reside in Texas and her family recognized by the Texas State Historical Society as a Texas First Family. Her family member: John Washington Rose was elected to the very first Texas Legislature in 1846, representing Victoria County. Following the legacy of the Rose family, 175 years later, Dr. Young now serves as an elected State Official. She is the Literacy Chair of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Anthony Smith Chapter and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Mary Hall Mantooth Chapter. She is the President of the Nacogdoches Chapter of the American Association of University Women, a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo serving on the Scholarship Administration Committee and the Speakers Committee and is a member of WMUMC. Young was recently named 2021 Educator of the Year in Special Services from the Association of Texas Professional Educators and awarded the 2021 State of Texas 4-H Salute to Excellence Award for District 5. As a member of the State Board of Education, Young represents District 8 with about 1.7 million Texans who reside in Brazos, Grimes, parts of Harris, Houston, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, and Walker counties.
