QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
While I would hope that no one chooses abortion, and would support all efforts to promote alternatives, I do not believe government is the best arbiter here. I believe that allowing choice through the second trimester is a reasonable compromise.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Agree
I have worries about how reporting would be tracks and how that could be used in unintended ways. Other than that, I believe that medical intervention is a decision best left to the patient and the doctor.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
Forcing people to financially support something they find abhorrent, is simply not reasonable. If additional support is needed, private funding is available. And that come from choice.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Agree
How you live and how you die is not something that should ever be dictated by government. With proper guidelines to ensure that people with mental issues do not chose a permanent solution to a temporary problem, and that people with diminished capacity are not simply removed, the government has no business telling people that must spend their last months in debilitating pain and suffering.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Nothing more to add here. You have the rights to the products of your labor.
What is your position on the minimum wage?
A high minimum wage removes jobs. Not good jobs, or lifelong positions, but it can knock out the bottom rungs of the ladder to success. The best way to increase wages is to increase your value. This is education and skills training.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
First, not everyone will agree, and it is the public money. But second, why is it being "invested?" If we have extra money, give it back to the people it was taken from!
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
If the people in the church are actively breaking the law at the time and subject to arrest. Only then, can the last person arrested close the church.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Disagree
Businesses are voluntary. You can go elsewhere if the services are not to your liking.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
C would be closest. I have watched insurance and health care go up in price and down in quality most of my life. And the more government "fixes it" the worse it gets.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Government or school, never. They are not optional. Employers have competition. You can work elsewhere, and during the pandemic, many did.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
It would be bad for our global reputation to abandon our friends.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Neutral
The border is the symptom, not the problem. We need to fix the problem. Our legal immigration system is totally broken. We need more immigration judges so people seeking asylum do not have to wait a year and a half in limbo unable to work. They need to be in court that day. Then allowed in and able to work, or sent home. This eliminates the need for an underground worker economy. It also makes sneaking across less attractive. Now instead of a flood, we have a trickle that we can fix.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Neutral
Texas has a very solid charter school system that is a proven success. Knowing this, I can't understand why school choice is such a hot button. We have school choice now. This is a lot of fighting over a small expansion to that choice. There are better things to fight about.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Agree
With some limitations. Not all parents have their children's best interests in mind. But that should be a high bar.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian that does not want government making religious choices for me.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Strongly Disagree
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
It could be because it can be used as a tool to manipulate people.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Agree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
C
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Nuclear. Not the old designs from the 50s however. New design small and distributed power plants.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
It should be to collaborate on things we cannot do on our own, like national defense. But we have lost sight of that.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Choose not to answer
I do not fall on this spectrum. Some things I believe would be considered liberal and some conservative. But I feel strongly about all of them. Primary, I believe government should have less impact on our day to day lives.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
People arrested should be disarmed. People convicted should be disarmed until they have paid all debts to society. But we do not need more gun laws. We do not bother to enforce the ones we have now.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
I am not saying we need to arm teachers. But we need to stop disarming them. There are a lot of schools with guns in the trunks of staff cars because of district restrictions. And there has never been a school shooting at a Guardian School.
