QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Disagree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Disagree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I believe that abortion is wrong, but it is not the government's responsibility to enforce that belief. If the same resources that had been deployed in attempting to pursue this on a legal basis had instead been directed at the community and at providing other resources, such as facilitating adoptions and providing contraceptives, then our abortion rate in this country would be nearly 0. I am strongly opposed to extra-marital sex, but again I do not believe that it is the government's responsibility to enforce such a belief. Instead, I believe that it is the responsibility of the community and of society to teach such beliefs in a way that accepts people without shame or recrimination.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has a livable income.
Neutral
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
The state constitution should limit the growth of spending to the rate of population growth plus the rate of inflation.
Strongly Agree
Congress should pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.
Agree
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
The best answer to unemployment is entrepreneurship. The government should make it as easy and inexpensive as possible to start a business. Every time a new business succeeds jobs are created where there were none. Creating new businesses on a regular basis helps to keep an economy healthy and adaptable. One of the major reasons for the success of the United States is that our capitalistic democracy allowed for new enterprises to grow and flourish. This mindset has lately been stymied by the government seeking to promote one business over another to please wealthy donors. We need to return to a time when merit decided which businesses would thrive. Too big to fail means that a company is too big.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
The government should provide a framework for economic growth, but should be careful about attempting to directly push the economy. Encouraging entrepreneurs, maintaining a strong infrastructure, resisting corrupting influences, supporting education, and preventing tyrannical behavior from monopolistic companies or people should be part of the regular course. This will not completely prevent the cyclical nature of economies, but the judicial governing of these aforementioned powers can provide a stabilizing influence. For instance, during times when the economy is strong the government should be saving money that can then be used to build up and improve infrastructure when the economy is weak.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Disagree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Disagree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Neutral
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health insurance.
Neutral
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I would solve the healthcare problem in Texas by passing a law that puts the burden of the solution on the industry. They would be required to figure out how to keep individual costs below a percentage of income and improve our outcomes to at least that of other developed nations. They would have a time frame in which to implement it. After that point, any charges to patients over that threshold would result in fines that are paid, in part, to the patients themselves. The law would include a provision that if they failed we would move to universal healthcare managed on a local level. I would prefer a solution that does not involve the government, but due to past political corruption and special interests it seems that is no longer possible. This solution would give the industry a chance to self correct, but would also protect the citizens if the industry decides to continue to bankrupt the poor and middle class while giving their CEOs 8 figure compensation packages.
NATIONAL SECURITY
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Disagree
Islamic law (Sharia) should take precedence over national and state laws where there are Islamic majority communities in the U. S.
Strongly Disagree
I support sanctuary cities.
Agree
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

EDUCATION
Tuition-free public education should be guaranteed through college.

VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.
Agree
Any teaching to children on sex education in public schools must include all contraceptive methods, and should not show preference to abstinence.
Agree
People should be allowed to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms based on "gender identity."
Agree
Parents should be the primary authority in decisions affecting their minor children.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
Mankind is prone to corruption. Understanding this nature the Founding Fathers put in place limitations and checks to prevent such corruption from being able to lodge itself in control of the people. Unfortunately, the two major parties have increasingly found ways to bypass these limitations and checks and are allowing their corruption to control our government.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe in Christ. I believe that He lives. I believe that He taught us how to live. I believe very strongly in the separation of church and state. I believe that government should be responsible for only two things: facilitating commerce and protecting from tyranny. There are a few exceptions to this, but they are exceptions and generally are humanitarian in nature. I believe that education is vitally important to commerce. I believe that infrastructure is important to commerce and that it is in dire need of improvement to protect from coming natural disasters. I believe that our current government is becoming increasingly corrupt due to undue influence by the two major parties in the United States and that we as a people need to demand that all elected officials be reminded that they work for us, not for their parties. I believe that we can do better.
ABOUT YOU
I support using a party caucus to nominate my party's candidate for Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, and I pledge to vote for my party's nominee.
Yes
I voted in these primaries and general elections:
2010 General Election, 2012 General Election, 2014 General Election, 2016 General Election
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Moderate
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
This is my first time running for public office so there is little publicly available information on me aside from these surveys. I have no funding and so I am beholden to no one except the voting population. I am running as a Libertarian, but I believe that government has an important role to play. I believe that government should serve the people, not rule them.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I am a scientist. I think in terms of solutions and I know how to ask the right questions. A political system run by lawyers will look like a system run by lawyers. This is OK, but it could be better. The ideal would be a political body that is representative of the people, but a good step in that direction would be to elect more non-lawyers. I have experience starting a couple of non-profits. I have been at home with my daughter so that my wife can pursue an MD/PhD. I have lived on 4 continents and seen the good and bad in the governments of a dozen countries. I am fluent in Spanish. I know how to lead and how to follow. I am better at listening than talking, but I know when it is important to make sure that I am heard. I believe that transparency is the greatest tool to prevent corruption. I am committed to being a representative of the people and in making it clear that they are my boss and no political or private institution will come before that commitment.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I believe that our government is the greatest on earth and I want to keep it that way. I fear that we are going down a path that is undermining the authority of the people. Justice is no longer blind to wealth, power, or race. The Republicans and the Democrats do not represent the majority of the nation. The opportunity gap is widening making it harder and harder to get ahead unless you start ahead. It is easier to live the American dream in Canada than in America. Our infrastructure is crumbling and some developing countries have faster internet than we do. Politicians no longer respond to individual constituents unless they can donate thousands of dollars to their campaigns. We need to stop this and I will work towards making America better for all, not just for those who already well off.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support the death penalty.
Disagree
