QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Only if the life of the mother is at severe risk - otherwise, no circumstances
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
The state constitution should limit the growth of spending to the rate of population growth plus the rate of inflation.
Strongly Agree
Congress should pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.
Strongly Agree
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
Currently unemployment is at 17 year low but to increase participation in the workforce (which is the most important number) we must overhaul our welfare laws and not provide incentives not to work. The incentive must be to work - no matter what the job. Another hindrance to workforce participation are illegal aliens entering and staying in this country. Securing our border will reduce the black market economy and that will mean more jobs available for legal residents and citizens.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
Primarily by getting out of the way through low taxes, low regulation and a system that encourages work over welfare.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
For all except the disabled and elderly poor the system must be a free market system that allows full competition across state lines is the best answer. Continued tort reform will also help bring down cost and a more expedited approval process for medical equipment, procedures and prescriptions will all help with this process.
NATIONAL SECURITY
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
Islamic law (Sharia) should take precedence over national and state laws where there are Islamic majority communities in the U. S.
Strongly Disagree
I support sanctuary cities.
Strongly Disagree
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
EDUCATION
Tuition-free public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
Any teaching to children on sex education in public schools must include all contraceptive methods, and should not show preference to abstinence.
Strongly Disagree
People should be allowed to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms based on "gender identity."
Strongly Disagree
Parents should be the primary authority in decisions affecting their minor children.
Strongly Agree
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
We were all born with a sin nature and part of that nature is greed and desire for power. The founding fathers knew that about mankind from history and had experienced that in Great Britain. A constitutional Republic that separates powers is a form of government that reduces the risk of absolute power by any one or small group of people. No question in my mind that there was "divine" intervention!
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I accepted Christ as my personal Lord and Savior at an early age at Markham Street Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. I grew up in a Christian home and as a family we were very involved in our church and faith related activities. I believe that the Bible is the infallible, inspired word of God and believe that the only pathway to heaven is through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Lisa and I chose to invest n a Christian education for our children, not for the academic emphasis but because we wanted our children to be educated in Christian world view environment. My faith is the most important part of my being.
ABOUT YOU
I support using a party caucus to nominate my party's candidate for Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, and I pledge to vote for my party's nominee.
Yes
I voted in these primaries and general elections:
2010 General Election, 2010 Republican Primary, 2012 General Election, 2012 Republican Primary, 2014 General Election, 2014 Republican Primary, 2016 General Election, 2016 Republican Primary
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I co authored and supported multiple pro life bills during the last three legislative sessions. I authored the Privacy Act in the last legislative session. I coauthored and supported the Pastor Protection Act last session. I co authored and supported a bill to limit budget growth to population plus inflation. I voted for balanced budgets in the last three legislative session with no tax increase. I joint authored a bill that provided for a constitutional amendment to allocate more money to free roads and banned the use of this money for toll roads. I voted to increase the homestead exemption that lowered property taxes. I voted for multiple bills to reduce or eliminate the so called franchise tax.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I have served three terms as the state representative so certainly that experience of how the system works, what it takes to move conservative legislation from an idea into law is critical. However, even more than that was my life prior to public service. I started, built and operated a successful investment management firm and still serve as its chairman. Our firm as grown to over 40 employees and over $2.6 billion under management. We generate over $20million of annual revenue back into the economy. But most of all I, along with my wife Lisa of 38 years, have raised three children who are all productive adults one as an assistant district attorney, one who works in the investment firm and one who is a member of the conservative media. I believe it is what you have done before running for office that will determine how effective you will be in office.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
It is an honor for me to represent the citizens of HD 65. What I have learned over the last 5 years is that what happens in Texas matters to the rest of America and what happens in American matters to what happens in the world. Therefore, if we can govern Texas correctly it increases the chances for a better American and a better world.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support the death penalty.
Strongly Agree
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
More restrictive gun control is needed to protect public safety.
Strongly Disagree
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
