RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health insurance.

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Support Mississippi's rural hospitals, increase opportunities for telemedicine, mandate work requirements for medicaid coverage. In general - we must get government out of healthcare. Costs have no relation to actual services provided, and this is a direct result of Obamacare and government intervention.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

The founders aimed to institutionalize and establish governmental structures that could ensure imperfect men could pursue just governance. Men naturally want power and that power corrupts. The checks and balances of our system are designed to place a check on power and corruption.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian and made my profession of faith when I was twelve years old at First Baptist Church, Kosciusko, Mississippi. I am now a member of First United Methodist Church in Brookhaven, MS. The Apostle's Creed that we recite each Sunday sums up my beliefs: I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary and suffered under Pontius Pilate and was crucified dead and was buried; the third day he rose from the dead, he ascended into heaven, and sittith at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; and from thence he shall judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the common of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. I try my best to live my life in accordance with the New Testament, to love my neighbors, forgive and serve others.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

Votes as recorded on the Mississippi Legislative Website: Voted for: Heartbeat bill; 15 week abortion prohibition; (endorsed by Mississippi Right to Life), religious freedom bill, open carry (A rating by NRA), elimination of franchise and inventory tax, reduction of income taxes, reduction of bond indebtedness of state. Received an A rating and named a "business champion" by BIPEC each year of service in legislature.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

As a small business owner, attorney, wife, mother, and caregiver for my aging parents; I have work and life experiences that have prepared me to serve as a legislator. As an attorney, I understand complex statutory and constitutional issues, real estate, corporate, domestic and financial matters. Often, other legislators ask me to explain or give my opinion on lengthy and complex bills. Likewise, because of my legal background, I have speaking and writing skills, and the tenacity required to push an issue to conclusion. As a Mother of 3, I have much experience with Mississippi public schools. I have toured each of the 15 schools in my district and spent a tremendous amount of time talking to teachers, parents, and administers about changes that could benefit all students. As a caregiver, I have experienced first hand the frustration of finding adequate medical care for my aging parents and understand how costly medical care has become.
