Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Abortion should not be allowed unless the continuation of the pregnancy places the mother's life in grave danger.
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
The United States should in no way tolerate threats of radical Islamic terrorism. Threats or attacks should be called what they are - terrorism. Anyone who engages in this type of activity should be detained, prosecuted, and deported if not a U.S. Citizen. The U.S. must continue its vigilance developed after 9/11 to root out threats and protect Americans from further mass attacks. I also support a strong military for the eradication of radical Islamic cells. We must all pray for an end to these extremist views and their supporters.
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
The Framers recognized that mankind, as the scriptures say, is fallen and flawed. The inherent nature of man is to acquire and wield power over others. However, in their forward thinking wisdom the Framers went a step further, recognizing that even in a republic, ANY power should be limited, and accountability assured through a system of checks and balances. That’s why they devised the legislative, judicial and executive separation of powers
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into my life at age 10 and was Baptized at First Baptist Church in Kosciusko, Mississippi. My Christian faith is the basis for the decision-making in my life. As an adult I have been and remain an active member of First United Methodist Church of Brookhaven, Mississippi where I have raised my children and served in numerous capacities: Children's coordinator, Vacation Bible School Director for 12 years, Evangelism Committee; Church Choir, and Staff/Parish Committee. I rely on the love of Jesus Christ and his forgiveness, as I know I am a flawed human struggling through the trials of life. I begin and end my days with prayer and am part of an active community of faith that holds me accountable for my actions. I believe the Bible is the inspired word of God.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Insurance should be sold across State lines to provide more competition. More transparency should be provided on actual costs of procedures. I would promote less regulation and governmental intervention in order to allow a return to a true Doctor/Patient relationship. Medicaid should be returned to its original intent, to provide a safety net for those in poverty who are elderly, disabled, or children.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
The government should create the environment for businesses and job creators to thrive. Lower taxes and less regulations will unleash the power of our US economy.
What changes should be made to the tax code?
The tax cuts made recently should be made permanent. Likewise the tax code should be simplified and made more fair by closing loop holes for special interests. Our tax code must allow our corporations a fair shot and not put businesses at a disadvantage when competing with foreign competitors. Finally, the tax code should be pro-family and eliminate any sort of marriage penalty.
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
The best way to bring down unemployment is to boost the economy through less regulation, reductions in taxes, and by providing certainty in the costs of healthcare. Currently, in my state of Mississippi, unemployment is at its lowest rate since 2000, while the job participation rate is at a higher rate than ever. Expanded entitlements under the Obama administration should be pushed back to their original purposes - to provide a safety net for the elderly, disabled, and children, not able bodied adults.
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
Social security is a promise to our Seniors and must be protected. However, we must face facts about the realities of social security. Retirees are collecting benefits longer and the large baby boomer population is putting stress on the system. I am open to a very gradual increase in the retirement age or payment decreases to extremely high income beneficiaries.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
As a two term state Senator I have served as chair of the Elections and Energy Committees, plus Vice-Chair of the Judiciary Committee. My experiences and knowledge gained in 7 years of service to the State have taught me how to make, manage, and move legislation that is beneficial to my constituents and the State as a whole. As an attorney, I defended city and county governments, worked on large corporate transactions, and represented small businesses. In addition I managed a small business that renovated and maintained several pieces of rental property. My varied legal and business experience provides me with a knowledge base to understand and make decisions on complicated business and tax matters. Finally, as a Mother, caretaker for my elderly parents, and active community volunteer I understand the struggles and needs of everyday Americans. Constituent services has been very important to me during my time in the Mississippi Senate and will continue to be my focus.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
My most important job has always been as Mom to my children - who are now all young adults. My oldest daughter will begin dental school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in the fall, my middle daughter will be a Junior at Ole Miss, and my son will graduates from Brookhaven High School this spring and enter Mississippi State University this fall. Along with my sisters I have served as the caregiver for my elderly parents for the last 9 years. Being responsible for their care has opened my eyes to the healthcare needs of all Mississippians, but particularly Veterans (my Dad was a tank commander in Korea), and the elderly.
